Notes from 3/20 - 3/22

***Edit*** The thread title was supposed to say 3/20 - 3/22. So in case you were wondering, No I didn't just spend 11 months at WDW.

Just spent a few days at the World, so I thought I'd share some things with everyone.

-I'm not a fan of the new (and only partially transparent) Mickey ballooon images that now adorn the windows of the Monorails and Disney Buses. I'm not sure if these are planned to only be a temporary thing, or if they plan to keep those around for a while.

-I witnessed an amusing bribery attempt at the San Angel Inn on Friday Night. As I waited in line to redeem my reservation, the woman in front of me (who was asking for the wait time without having an ADR) was told they likely would be unable to accomodate any walk ins. She then slipped the maitre'd a 100 dollar bill, while saying "here's my reservation" like a bad movie line. He handed the bill back to her and said "I'm not going to risk losing my job over 100 dollars." That woman must really love the San Angel Inn if she's willing to pay $100 just to get in.

- I've ridden the latest version of SSE several times now, and I'm still not a fan of the final descent. The final video sequence is amusing the first time you see it, but gets old very quick, even if you change your answers to the questions every time. Soon I will have to start selecting a random language other than English to keep myself amused. I rode SSE 3 times on this trip, and had a broken video screen the 2nd time. I notified a CM at the end of the ride, and he nicely offered to let me ride again (I declined the offer because I was anxious to eat some lunch.)

- I rode the Walt Disney World Railroad for the first time in years on Friday. I realized I wasn't missing much all those years..... I rode the Disneyland Railroad on my last DL trip and it was fantastic (scenery was better, plus you get to see the historic Grand Canyon Diorama and the Primeval World Dinosaur AA's). On the WDW Railroad, I was especially unimpressed by the fact that you can very clearly see an employee parking lot between Tomorrowland and Main Street USA. It really takes away from the theme.

- Since I've gotten the few negatives out of the way first, I will be positive for the rest of the post, since I had an awesome time!

- On Sunday we rode the Safari bright and early at 9am, and all of the animals were awake and active. For the past few years I've mostly ridden the Safari in the afternoon, but will never do that again, since it's clear that the animals are much more active in the morning.

- One Man's Dream is still my favorite WDW attraction. What a great tribute to Walt. I'm glad they offer this attraction, since it's important to me to pay homage to the man who made it all happen.

I forgot to mention that I caught a few minutes of Davy Jones of the Monkees performing live at Epcot on Friday Evening. When I first heard him singing as I walked by the American Adventure, I assumed it was probably some lame cover band singing "Daydream Believer," but then I took a closer look and realized it was the man himself.

Thanks for the info!

I agree with you about the Mickey balloons on the monorail. It's a nice touch but not on the windows, obstructing the great views.
The safari is definitely great in the AM! But it always seems like the lions are sleeping or not visible at all

I think I would have looked around for a camera too! I can't believe someone did that, and for that place too!

That's True about the Lions. Even on our great AM Safari, the one Lion we saw was asleep. Every other animal was up and about, even a Cheetah.

She must have been either A) So rich, that handing out $100 bills isn't a big deal, or B) she loves the San Angel Inn more than I can possibly comprehend.

I hear ya on this one and agree 100%! The decent actually leaves me just wondering "why" after the first couple times of being "part of the ride" and just seems hokey & cartoonish now. I think they did a good job with the renovations in the ascend half of the ride though.

They got it half right, at least!

Good point by bringing up the ascent portion. I agree they did a great job there. I especially like the Cave drawings scene where the drawings become animated and move around. Plus the Judi Dench narration is growing on me a bit. I didn't like it at all at first, but it's not so bad after all.

Glad you had such good luck with it!

I've heard that the lions are active more in the afternoon. Is that true?

I do remember at least one time when I saw the Lions active in the afternoon. Perhaps that's the pattern for them, but it might've been a coincidence. It seems like Lions sleep at least 20 hours out of the day (just like I would do if I didn't have a job :snore:).

I have to agree. The descent on SSE is terrible..no imagination there!
I also didn't like the balloons on the monorail windows, but my 10 yr. old son
really liked them, so that was a push.
I hope that they reopen WoL.Epcot needs it.

For $100, I might have given her my reservation and gone to eat somewhere else on her!

After reading the latest responses from Figment76 and Meandmickey.... I CANT BELIEVE I DIDN'T THINK OF THAT!!! The only problem was that she was looking for a table for 7 and my table was for 3, so I guess it wouldn't have worked anyways. I'll keep that idea in mind for the future.

I was there just a few days before you were and I agree about the mickey balloons.

At first, I thought they were cute, but when we rode the monorail we couldn't see out the windows and I didn't like them as much. I think it's probably just part of the Celebrations theme.

That's hilarious that you witnessed a bribery! I'm surprised the CM turned down the $100 - but glad to see he did. That's so funny though how she said it.

Glad you had a good time!!

The question is: would he have turned that bribery down if it wasn't so obvious? That woman who slipped him the hundred needs to learn to be more covert. I could clearly see what she was doing, and I'm willing to bet that other people in the line could see it as well. Had he accepted the money, there's a chance someone might have reported him.

When I was in college I worked as an usher at the Rosemont Horizon, and arena in suburban Chicago. During concerts, the company would occasionally dispatch undercover security to try and bribe their way in to weed out the dishonest employees. Is it possible Disney does this too (not saying that this was in fact what happened, but companies go to extreme lengths).
