NFL.com just posted a story saying he may miss the entire postseason.

I'll say this: If the Eagles can't get through the namby-pamby NFC without TO, I wouldn't feel too sorry for them. If the Panthers don't make it, the Packers and Falcons are the only teams that I think could beat Philly, and we already saw what the Eagles did to Green Bay and Atlanta is just too erratic to take seriously, I think.

I know, things change in January, but the Eagles are still clearly the conference's best team, IMO.

What the Eagles did to Green Bay, they did with TO. He had a td and over 150 receiving yards. And when he wasn't catching the ball, he was drawing double teams, sometimes even triple teams from the Packers secondary. Does anyone really think Todd Pinkston can get those deep bombs if the opposition wasn't so concerned with TO?

I believe that the Eagles are still in great shape. Sometimes these type of injuries cause the rest of the team to step it up another notch. The key to their team is Westbrook. And he has been the key to that team all year, IMO. If he's on, it's hard to stop that offense (with or without TO).

Don't be surprised if this injury isn't just what that team needs.

Loss Of Owens Makes It Tough, Not Impossible

December 20, 2004

The news hit with a sudden thump, a punch to the gut, a wallop of disappointment: Terrell Owens will likely miss the remainder of the NFC playoffs and, should the Eagles be so fortunate to get beyond that, has an "outside" chance to play in the Super Bowl on February 6.
The dream season, 13-1, just took a severe left turn, no doubt about it. It makes you want to cry. But if you're going to give up, don't come around here, please.

The Eagles lost their main receiving threat, no question about it. What Owens has brought to this team, to this town, to this organization, is invaluable. He's got a confidence and a talent about him that you just can't measure. The sheer numbers -- 77 catches, 1,200 yards, 14 touchdowns -- tell only part of the story.

How he affected defenses is another part. Owens impacts everything. Defenses tried matching up with him early in the season and he destroyed them. Since mid season, defenses rolled coverages his way and that opened opportunities for other players.

Now the immediate future does not include Owens. He said in a conference call late Monday afternoon that he is "overwhelmingly confident" that the Eagles will advance to the Super Bowl. And after that, well, have you ever heard of Willis Reed?

"They would probably have to put me in a strait jacket," said Owens when asked what would keep him out of the Super Bowl should the Eagles win their first two playoff games. "Depending upon how my rehab process goes, if I'm able to go, God willing, then I'm going to give it a shot.

"If not, I'll be the biggest cheerleader on that sideline at the Super Bowl."

How do the Eagles compensate on the field? They have to figure out something. Coverages will change. Defenses now will roll coverage to Brian Westbrook and try to limit his effectiveness in the passing game. What happens if defenses use a cornerback on Westbrook? How do the Eagles create matchups across the board then?

Look, it's not going to be easy. The Eagles are going to have to get Freddie Mitchell and Greg Lewis and Todd Pinkston and Billy McMullen up to speed. There are two games to get McMullen, for example, used to the tempo of the NFL. He's got a big body to defeat press coverage, which is surely coming with more regularity.

So it's going to be a challenge. No doubt about that. You don't simply erase No. 81 and replace it with another number and just move on. The coaching staff is going to have to be creative with its scheming.

And guys like Pinkston are going to need to step up in a big way. Mitchell, who has been largely ignored this season, now has the chance to become a huge part of the offense. Lewis, the shifty receiver who always seems to get open, must have a more involved role in the attack.

And the Eagles are going to have to get favorable matchups for Westbrook and Smith and, yes, Donovan McNabb is going to have to be a superstar quarterback even without Owens.

There are reasons to be optimistic about the Eagles winning that first playoff game and then the one after that and the one after that. Lincoln Financial Field is, indeed, a home-field advantage. The Eagles are a better team than they were last year and the NFC is worse than it was last year. The defense, this defense, is worlds better than in 2003.

And yet ...

There is also the frustration and depression of losing such a major member of the team at this point in the season. Owens deserves more. He has had his reputation restored this season. He has taken a city by the heart and clutched it. He has given Eagles fans everywhere a reason to believe.

Now he's not part of the picture on the field.

Who steps up? Who stands out? How do the Eagles make it without the player who defined the essence of this season?

Stay tuned. The drama is here.

And, they only beat the hapless Cowboys by 5 points.

Vince... my money is STILL on the Eagles this season. I honestly think that that team is the one team who (when they really want to win) can't be beat. It's all about the heart, and I don't think any team in the nation wants to win the Superbowl as bad as Philly does.

(And I'm a Bucs fan... I have to find consolation in the small places this year...)

Teams don't go 13-1 because of one player. Just because TO thinks he's the whole team, and just because the media laps that up like it's a delicious chocolate treat doesn't make it true.

This will just make it more interesting, more fun, and make me feel less like I've sold my soul to the devil for something as trivial as a Super-Bowl win.

I hate all this TO bashing. TO has proven himself a team player this year. There shouldn't be anymore of this TO is a cancer stuff. All those who say otherwise don't know what they're talking about. You know what the first thing TO did when he got the news of his injury? He called the remaining Eagles receivers and encouraged them. He told them it's up to them to step up and take the Eagles the rest of the way to Jacksonville. Even though he can't play, he'll be there cheering the loudest from the sidelines. He's upset he can't play but he still wants the Eagles to win more than anything. Enough TO bashing!

I woke up this morning hoping it was all just a bad dream. Sadly it wasn't. It still just feels horrible. It feels like we're in search of the Promised Land without our Moses. All we can do now is hope and believe in a miracle. Hope that Donovan and Westbrook can have the strength to carry the load for this team. Hope that Pinkston can summon up some courage to be the man. And hope that TO can come back and be TO. We just have to believe, that's all we have now.

Many nights we prayed
With no proof anyone could hear
In our hearts a hope for a song
We barely understood
Now we are not afraid
Although we know theres much to fear
We were moving mountains
Long before we knew we could
There can be miracles
When you believe
Though hope is frail
Its hard to kill
Who knows what miracles
You can achieve
When you believe somehow you will
You will when you believe

In this time of fear
When prayer so often proves in vain
Hope seems like the summer bird
Too swiftly flown away
Yet now I’m standing here
My hearts so full, I can't explain
Seeking faith and speakin words
I never thought I’d say
There can be miracles
When you believe
Though hope is frail
Its hard to kill
Who knows what miracles
You can achieve
When you believe somehow you will
You will when you believe

They don’t always happen when you ask
And it’s easy to give in to your fears
But when you’re blinded by your pain
Can’t see the way, get through the rain
A small but still, resilient voice
Says hope is very near
There can be miracles
When you believe
Though hope is frail
Its hard to kill
Who knows what miracles
You can achieve
When you believe somehow you will
Somehow you will
You will when you believe

Who bashed TO?

Or are you just talking about sportscasters and stuff in general?

...after last night's display.

Feel free to bash Tom Brady

I was about to say the same thing. I haven't heard anyone bash TO. If someone thinks that we are bashing TO by saying that the Eagles might be better because of this doesn't know sports history. How many times have we seen injuries like this before bring a team together and make them play better. Anyone remember the Drew Bledsoe injury that brought Tom Brady into the spotlight? Who thought that Brady would lead them to a Super Bowl? Nobody. The rest of the team stepped it up and they won.

If they lose the NFC, it won't be because TO got injured. The Eagles still have more talent than any other team in the conference. I still say Westbrook is the key to the team.

Oh no harm done...

I love the Pats...and I had to laugh at how bad Mr. Brady was. 4 INTERCEPTIONS??? One of them looked like a move Drew did in the playoffs against Pittsburgh on the road to XXXVI...

I think Gary had a pretty fair assessment of things. If you're gonna come on here and laud a player, you gotta realize that there will be others who don't share in the same opinion. I don't think Gary is intentionally bashing T.O., but making an observation the way he sees things.

Vince, take a deep breath and see this thing out. Are you a T.O. fan or an Eagles fan? Just because he's gotten hurt, you've flushed the season down the toilet--because one man got hurt. Let's see you rally behind your TEAM and your coaching staff and give them a chance to make the adjustments.

And remember this.......it's just a game.
