what happened? and what humor?
I live in Slidell, LA where the eye passed through. From what I've been able to piece together from what has happened around where my house is located, there is a real good chance that my house is non-existent or severely damaged.

Someone above was making making a comment about Slidell being on the news, and it wasn't a serious one...unless I took it wrong.

Well, I no longer have a house anymore, so your humor is lost. Congratulations.

I'm sorry you lost your house and can understand, clearly, why you'd be upset. That said, I don't think Erika had any intent to make light of your situation. If anything, she was trying to brighten your spirit.

Again -- I'm sorry about your home. I grew up on Long Island, NY and am no stranger to hurricanes, though nothing I've ever experienced was as powerful as this storm. The worst we had happen was a tree felled onto my aunt's brand new Blazer in a storm once.

I reread it twice and know Erika's post. I think you took the post wrong. Understandable as you are probably under a lot of stress, but I'm positive Erika meant no harm.

I think you took her post wrong. You seemed upset earlier that New Orleans was getting the coverage and not Slidell. She saw Slidell on her news and was telling you. It was not being mean, just letting you know that she saw information about your town.

I sure hope you find out that the early information coming in is not totally accurate and your home is fine.

Can these weather people go inside now? I would feel much better if they weren't standing out there like a bunch of sitting ducks. To quote one poor guy (who was scrunched up against the wind): "It hurts my face to be out here."

I am not sure why the media thinks we need to see it to believe it.......

We're fine because we're all in Alabama :) , but mentally, not so good. It is hard to lose a place that you've lived in for 14 years and spent years building before that.

don't beat yourself up over anything yet. Wait until you can get back down or you get some firsthand, eyewitness information. Otherwise, you'll go crazy.

So you are not positive about what condition your house is in? Well think positive maybe it will be better then you imagine.

Besides you still have family, that is more important. Materials can be replaced, family cannot.

I hope your house is in good shape when you get back there STR8. Stay safe in Alabama.
Thanks. I'm kind of afraid to go back. Not sure what will be left of my town.

I'm in Tuscaloosa, AL at the Marriot Courtyard. It's across the street from Hooters. They have been nice enough to allow our two labradors to stay with us, and they allowed us to stay another night.

Even though I'm a hardcore LSU Tiger fan as well as a student, let me throw in a Roooooolllllllllllllllllllllllllll Tide for Tuscaloosa.

You have it much better than you did in LA. by being in Tuscaloosa, but you are by no means out of danger. Stay safe.

That's exactly it. You seemed pretty upset that New Orleans and not Slidell was on the news. So, I thought I'd let you know that you made it

Thanks for the defense, guys. You all know me well. :)

Humor is key when you're stuck in a hotel room in this situation.

I wish you the best when you do eventually get to go back to your home town. I hope your house survived the weather with minimal damage. Please keep us posted and I will keep praying for the best.:)
