Wear something that you are comfortable in and is neat.

Be yourself.

Project a positive attitute.

Try to avoid negative body language - crossed arms, slouching.

Don't be afraid to leave a gap of silence when formulating an answer.

Get yourself in a positive frame of mind on the way to the interview.

First and foremost, show up on time. Show up in clean, neatly pressed clothes (no ripped jeans & t shirts). Make sure your shoes are shined ( no sneakers). Clean, neat hair. Be respectful, use proper English (no street talk). Answer all questions honestly and when you are done thank the person doing the interview for his time. Yes, do all of these things even if you are interviewing for bag boy or cart pusher.

You only have one chance to make a first impression, make it a good one.

If you are offered the job right there, accept it. But before you really accept it, make sure you know several things: what you'll be expected to do, what hours you'll be expected to work, what salary (or $/hour) you'll receive. If that is acceptable to you, then accept it.

If you aren't offered the job, be sure to get the person's business card, or at least his/her job title. Then you will want to write down the questions that the interviewer asked. Write a letter to the interviewer, thanking him/her for the opportunity to work for Publix. [If you've never had a real job before, then you'll have to say that your teachers can say that you are dependable, that you get projects done on time, etc]

Depending on the time frame (will a decision be made in a week or in a day or two), I would mail the letter the next day.

If you interview with more than one person, a letter goes to each person.

Good Luck!

Which Publix? All the people giving you advice will expect a discount the next time we are in LBV! j/k

I worked at Publix when I was 14/15. The interview as I remember was very short and simple. It was basically "Why do you want to work here," "This is what you'll be doing and making," "What hours can you work," etc. I personally didn't enjoy the job. Right now I work for a small mom and pop resteraunt which I like better because I didn't like working for a big corporation. Too many rules and regulations. It's also not good when you've been there for 3 months and the managers still don't know your name. (Possibly because there were 153 bagboys and cashiers). Have fun though, and for the interview just relax, that's the most important thing I can tell you.

And about discounts, forget it. The employees don't even get discounts on ANYTHING!

Oh, to be 15 and hateful.

Just look good, be yourself, and use proper language (as in no using "uh" and "yeah"). Wait a second, I think everyone has already said those.

Anyways, good luck man....hope you get the job, and let us know how your interview went. :D

I was only there 3 months too. I didn't like it at all.

Ehhhh....ummmm that's all good advice but it is just a grocery store. Provided you'll work the hours t hey need and don't look too scruffy and use common sense when you answer their questions you should be just fine. A plain t shirt and a decent looking pair of jeans would work just fine to wear. I wouldn't go overboard for it and deffinately don't worry too much...you'll end up getting the job and wondering why you worried in the first place when it was so easy. hehe :p

For jobs like that, you basically need to simply be a non-felon who they can be certain will show up to work on time and will do the job. I wouldn't worry at all.

Well here's my update, they didnt offer me the job on the spot..there gonna call if I do get it..

But during like the whole time, the lady just kept like pounding stuff into my head for me to remember. Like she probablly only asked me like 3 questions total. But other than that, she just told me about hours, and the role I needed to take part in..

I dressed up pretty well, blue long sleeve shirt, hair looked good, tie, black pants, black socks, black pants..hopefully they'll call me back. Thanks for the all the suggestions guys!

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Not the most glamorous job in the world, but we all have to start somewhere.

When I'm in Florida I always shop Publix.

Two pairs of pants! Better safe than sorry.

By the way, in most of the UK "Pants" refers to underpants not trousers
