Is it possible to go to a resort without a reservation and book a room for the night or are the Disney hotels for reservation only? Thanks!!!

Personally, there's no way I would try that unless I was extremely comfortable with and prepared to be turned away. I have no idea if they allow walk-ups or if you must have a reservation.

When I was there in October my mother in law and I overheard a guy trying to get "6" rooms at SSR. The Manager said that there wasn't any room there and the only place was at OKW but for just two nights. I guess he wanted two weeks with no ressies.

At the very least, I'd suggest calling a few hours ahead to see if any rooms are available at all, save you a wasted trip. Otherwise, as has been said, it is possible to walk up to the front desk and say "What ya got?" Just don't be upset if they reply "We got nothing."

If you're in the parks or downtown disney you can stop at any guest relations and they will check to see what is available that night. That way you don't have to go from hotel to hotel.

Isn't there a sign somewhere once you get on property? I distinctly remember driving past one of those computer-type signs once that said, "Rooms available on property tonight." Of course it didnt say which rooms (and for all I know, the only rooms available may have been the Presidential Suite at the Grand Floridian), just that rooms were in fact available somewhere on property.

I don't know of that sign... but I can tell you we take walk ups often but only if we have the rooms avaiable... if you go to any of the reorts they can tell you what they have available, where, and what price. By no means would I suggest this because you will probably end up with the last room available and there are usually reasons that the room is the last one available. Plus if your looking to be a walk up this summer you migh as well make a reservaton at Old Key West or Saratoga because its going to be the only thing available and you might even be pusing it there. In other words: Its possible but I wouldnt suggest it.

There's signs on all the main roads on-property that tell you "Rooms available tonight" and to call (407) W-DISNEY. That connects you to one of the two DRCs; they will find you a room almost any night of the year. Of course, it depends on availabilty - don't expect a $59 value resort deal on the day of check-in. A second caveat: DRC will also search the Downtown Disney resorts and "Good Neighbors" (off-property locations from Doubletree and Marriott-level to Holiday Inn/Days Inn/Hampton). If you absolutely need to be on property, or you don't want to pay rack rates, you need to reserve ahead of time... Shatner's not going to convince a Grand Floridian CM to give away a same-day room for $120. Have fun!

4 of us went to universal for the day. when we left we said let see if we can get hoop-dee-doo tickets. we called up and got balcony seats. As we were driving over the thought popped up lets see if we can get a couple of rooms at pofq they had 2 rooms for us. the moral of the story is it was only supposed to be a day trip because the universal tickets were a gift. so it is possible to get rooms pretty much just walking up.

I wouldn't attempt it, why would you want to do that anyway? Especially during the Free Food Offer. You might be able, however, to get the hotels near the shopping area.

Like anything, sometimes you get lucky. A friend and his family were staying at the Coronado Springs for a convention. They were planning on staying another few days after the convention to enjoy Disney as well. After the convention, they drove over to the Poly for the Luau. After walking around the resort, Jim went to the front desk and asked if there were any rooms available, luck was on his side. They drove back to CS and moved into the Poly for the last 4 days of their trip. They know it was a fluke and that they were lucky.

Remember when they had the Disney Welcome Center in Ocala, Florida? In an old issue of Birnbaum's it suggested that when driving into Florida, stop at the center to make your room reservations.
