Okay, I was riding in the car w/ my mom today & we go to talking about Disney World. And I said "I hate it when people say they're too old for Disney World". And she comes out & says "I'm too old for Disney World and so are you." My eyes widened. And then she went on to say "I'm ashamed of how much I know about Disney World. I'm embarassed to tell people how many times we've gone there." I must have been adopted.

My dad does the same thing and it gets to me everytime he does. He doesn't like how much we spend at WDW. My sister doesn't understand either. I am sooo ready to go back right now and I just got back about a month ago.

I bet that she has recently been criticized and put down for it (probably comparing WDW to a "real" vacation, say to Bermuda or Europe or something... as I have heard many say: "I don't want the fake thing at Epcot when I can go to the real thing for the same money, or even less...," as the argument sometimes goes...)

So, she is probably thinking through her own priorities. Don't worry. She will remember the value of Disney World to her and her family, even if she does try to "put it into perspective" for herself.

Although I agree in principle with GenerartionX that she has does not have to answer most critics about her liesure activities (and I think Disney is worth many trips), it is also O.K. to consider other vacation spots, or ways to spend your discretionary income (say, on mission trips or relief agencies for the hurricane victims, etc.) Balance is a good thing, and it keeps certain valuable experiences like WDW in proper perspective. Where that balance is for each us, we must examine ourselves to decide....

I hope this helps.

I'm supposed to spend all my spare time following football and cultivating a beer belly in between eating red hot curries and getting into drunken fights, such is the binge drinking country I live in.

Instead I enjoy Disney World and don't give a rat's behind what the yobs think :D

:) at my job a customer asked where we were going and I had said that we were going to WDW she said that we were obsessed, you go there too much. I smiled and thought to myself that is your opinion, but she is a christian but I did not say you go to church too much, I don't, and if I had she would have been offended, just as much as I was at her comment, but I kept it in.:animwink:

Your mom is too old to care about what other people think of her leisure activities.
You hit the nail on the head right there. Wow.

I'm a 28 year old, straight, single male, and I love Disney World. Do I give a crap if other people think I'm stupid, crazy, or childish? (and they do by the way) Hell no. Tell your mom to listen to the voices in her OWN head and not the ones coming out everyone elses heads. :D If she doesn't like WDW on her own then that's up to her, but to hear that a grown woman is worried about what everyone else thinks about somehting as simple as this is a little depressing.

You should immediately ask a person like that if they've ever been, and when they say "no," all you have to say in response is "exactly."

I am 26, and my girlfriend is 24. We don't have kids, but we go to Disney one to two times a year. I would love to go more often, but living in Williamstown, NJ (South Jersey) it gets a little expensive. My friends often say "Your going back to Florida?" "Why not go somewhere else?" Well, my girlfriend doesn't drink, and she's not really a beach person, but she really likes Disney. I love Disney, so that's where we always end up going. It works out great because we can enjoy the parks together, and at night hit Downtown Disney. I grab a drink, and she goes in all the shops. It's always a perfect vacation. Anyway, your never too old for Disney.:animwink:

We're building a new house, and yesterday Mom and I got to talking. She was asking how I wanted my room done, and what kind of bedding I wanted. Well of course I told her Disney for my room, and when I said Disney for my bed, she's like you need to grow up more, you're not a little kid anymore.

I responded to her "I never wanna grow up - off to Neverland" just like Peter Pan would've said

In my eyes, I see myself as a kid. Disney keeps me from being too serious. Seriousness is oldness.
(When me and Chris[boyfriend] got home from college today, Dad was like "Look at you two, all grown up now and turning into adults".. :zipit: )

Anyways, on the other hand... I don't think I've ever heard of the words too, old, for, or Disney come out of my parents mouths in the same sentence. So I guess that's a GREAT thing :D

When my husband and I were married in 1989, my family gave us a honeymoon to Disney. My husband was skeptical, thinking 'this is a place for kids'. I am very happy to say that he was pleasantly surprised! Now, we've been several times and will continue to go. Speaking about too old for Disney, I will never forget as a kid when my then 80ish year Grandmother went with my sister and I. My grandmother's brother and wife lived minutes from Disney and finally talked her into going. Boy, did she have fun. Even when we convinced her to go to the Diamond Horshoe Saloon Review, now that was interesting! She just knew she was going to he!! for that! :lookaroun I think you should do what makes you happy, not everyone else!

It's A Small World Afterall!

I think people who tell you that you are too old to go to Disney are themselves jealous. They're jealous that you get to go there often, and they're jealous because you have no hang-ups in letting your inner child and your innocence continue to grow. They're jealous because they either have lost the ability to do that, or won't.

These people will never understand our obsession with Disney. Let's hope Mickey does not tell us a space ship is coming to take us home cause we'll wait for it too lol (Heaven;s Gate)

My parents don't say that, but basically ALL my friends think I'm crazy for going every year, sometimes twice. It's just hard for some people to understand. You might be adopted though...you never know! :animwink:
