it is also O.K. to consider other vacation spots
You mean there are other places to go besides WDW ??? :dazzle:
Say it isn't so, prberk.:lookaroun

That's EXACTLY what my dad says! He's like how about we go to Hawaii, Japan, France, etc...

I told him the only way I would go to Japan or France is if I could go to Disney there.. EVERY day, not just a one day thing :p

Okay, I was riding in the car w/ my mom today & we go to talking about Disney World. And I said "I hate it when people say they're too old for Disney World". And she comes out & says "I'm too old for Disney World and so are you." My eyes widened. And then she went on to say "I'm ashamed of how much I know about Disney World. I'm embarassed to tell people how many times we've gone there." I must have been adopted.

She must be possessed by the devil. Exorcism Time!

I don't really get the "too old for Disney" thing. What makes me upset is when the people I work with say "you're going back"? "You just came from there." I HATE THAT! I guess I must be throwing off the earth's gravitational pull just by going to Disney. I never knew my vacation destinations were so upsetting to people. For my upcoming vacation in October I am keeping the trip on the down low so I don't have to hear it from all of the "know-it-alls". So, while all of you are working hard at work bending over backwards for all of the sneaks in the office I'll be at the happiest and most magical place on earth. Ha! Good enough for ya!!!

I feel better now that I got that off my chest.

Have you read The Polar Express? (Or seen the movie?) Alas, for some the bell no longer rings, or never did. But it still does for those who truly believe.

I'm supposed to spend all my spare time following football and cultivating a beer belly in between eating red hot curries and getting into drunken fights, such is the binge drinking country I live in.
Come up north my good man and I'll introduce you to my chums at the polo club and we can play bridge in the lounge afterwards.

B*gger that - I'm off to Disney :sohappy:

I totally agree that you're never too old for Disney. We go 2 or 3 times per year, and my husband's family just thinks we're totally nuts. We don't even tell my side of the family now when we're going, because they totally don't get it.
Anyway, that being said, last year we spent our Christmas vacation helping rebuild a house in Punta Gorda that had been severely damaged during Hurricane Charley. We managed to squeeze in an afternoon at Disney (monorail ride, hotel tour, DTD) just to restore our sanity after witnessing such devastation. So what may be insanity to some is true sanity to others. Go figure!

Old!

I'm over 50, and still love Disney, (my wife says I'm really 12). I like to notice the little details and construction that is there. If you have a job and responsibilities, then you shouldn't be told what you like.

I'm a 28 year old, straight, single male, and I love Disney World. Do I give a crap if other people think I'm stupid, crazy, or childish? (and they do by the way) Hell no. Tell your mom to listen to the voices in her OWN head and not the ones coming out everyone elses heads. :D If she doesn't like WDW on her own then that's up to her, but to hear that a grown woman is worried about what everyone else thinks about somehting as simple as this is a little depressing.

I'm a 28 year old single female that heads down to WDW with her 50 something mother every other year. We always get the "Haven't you been there already? Why not go someplace else?" This drives us nuts. Why should people think it's strange for us to go to WDW every year to 2 years when they head off to Cuba every single year like clockwork. Why should going to WDW be any different? Tell you mom that she is NOT too old for WDW. People that question why you go or say you're too old JUST DON'T GET IT!!!!

My co-worker goes to the beach twice a year. She asked me why I go back to WDW so much. "Does it change?" I asked her why she goes to the beach so much. "Does it change?" I think she understands now.

I am 26 straight single male who loves going to disney world. I get the same treatment that is being described here. Most of the people who make those comments have either never been or they haven't been in a long time. It is amazing to me how many people can go there and not know what WDW consist of. They have either only seen one part of it or they think that the Magic Kindgom is Disney World and don't even know about the other parts of it. You shouldn't criticize someone about something that you don't even have all the info on. It is none of you business what they like or what they do.

My inlaws were like that untill they went themselves for the first time @ age 72!

They couldn't believe how big it was. They still think my wife and I go to much, but now that we have a 2 year old I want to go MORE!!!

I do have other buisness partners who make comments, but now I just tell them I'm going somewhere else (that I've actually been to previously so I can answer questions)

Great point on the beach hcswingfield. I live in Jersey and I know people who go to the shore nearly every weekend of every summer and they ask ME why I go to Disney so much!!!

My DH and I are both 25 and although we only just went to WDW first time last October, we are going back in 27 days. Our friends straight out think we are insane. His family thinks we're crazy and doesn't believe that we will actually move to Orlando like we're planning. My father is an idiot, so we don't even care what he says. My mother, on the other hand, says that being happy is the most important thing in life, and if we want to go than WE SHOULD GO! I happen to agree with her, but we can't convince her to go with us, I even offered to pay for her :brick:

Once we move down there, though, we figure we'll have her down for a 'visit' and then tie her up and bring her to MK. She'll be hooked.

No one is EVER to 'old' for disney.

My dad and I both agree that as we have gotten older, our desire to go to WDW (or any disney property) has grown. we are adults every day of our lives, it is nice to have a week or two where we are kids again.

When I am in Disney, I don't have to worry about driving, making dinner, making the bed, and if I bring enough clothing, I don't have to worry about the laundry (though in our DVC 2 bedrooms, we have the option). I know that the quality of food, entertainment, and sleep will be very good, and the pool will always be warm and relaxing. I know that in every single area of Disney, some of the top people in the world are there to make my vacation amazing.

So ask your mom again, why it is she is too old? Is it the great service? or the happy atomsphere? or the fun rides? or does she not want to enjoy a child-like state of mind for a few days?

I for one will still travel thoughout this great land and world of ours. I make several trips a year between Chicago, St. Louis, and Indy, and I will continue to travel to see family and friends in Houston, New Jersey, Georgia, and Seattle. I am even in the works with my husband to plan a trip around Europe for three weeks.

But on all of these trips, I will be searching out "disney-esque" places, themed resteraunts, and entertainment worthy of a disney park. On my trip to Europe, we will be stopping for two days at Disneyland Paris, and our trip to California has 4 days in Disneyland.

I don't think I will EVER hear my parents utter those horrible words "we are to old..." My parents were the ones who last summer decided to extend a 4 day trip to Georgia to see family to an additional 4 days in disney (we were SO close to WDW, why not go!). They are the ones who have planned every single trip (nearly 15) for the family. And I think my dad is already mentally planning a trip with the first grandkid, though that is several years away.

And Dad always says, "Now it's a vacation" when we first step in to MK. MK was a stop in 1973 on my parents honeymoon. MK was my first vacation destination in Nov of 1981 (I was 5 months old). MK was my sisters first vacation destination in 1983 (she was a year old), and MK is where I saw my first fireworks show, my first parade, and when I fell in love with Mickey Mouse. My sister's first rollercoaster was Space Mountain. The list goes on. So why would we not go back to where all of those memories are?!

Ok, I am done with my little rant. :)

:sohappy:you are never to old to go to neverland aka disney world!

Calling WDW neverland probably isn't too good of an idea. Neverland has a very negative connotation when being referred to as an amusement park.

Never too old!

I also get the, "you're going again!", comments - frequently! But I just spent my 50th birthday there, and it was wonderful! I can't think of any other place on the planet that I would rather have spent my BIG birthday.
