It is true. People who are malnourished display other things. There are almost always signs of prolonged malnourishment. It isn't just height, though that is certainly part of it. Short arms - shorter than they should be, given the person's height - is not uncommon. You really don't notice stuff like that unless you're looking for it, though.

Add meat to a population's diet and you will watch them grow taller.

...and I wasn't talking about peasants. I specifically said "cities." They weren't malnourished. They were perfectly healthy without meat. They were just short. And each generation grows taller than the last.
This is interesting. Can you provide a link to the proof? Not asking in a snarky way; I'd honestly like to read more about it.

I honestly do not know for sure the diet of the average Chinese person during the past generations. From speaking to people who are recent immigrants I am told that fish is huge staple of their diet as well as duck and chicken. Beef was never largely found in any of Asia. I would also like to see a link about size in relation to meat consumption.

Lol, I didn't learn all this from reading it on the Internet. But I'm sure that if you did enough research online and maybe in libraries, which will also have medical dictionaries, you could find all the info you wanted on malnutrition and meat.

After you read up, to really appreciate the difference, go to China. Visit the big cities. Look around at the people. Look for signs of malnutrition to satisfy yourself. Compare the average height of different generations. Don't wait too long. The older ones are already starting to die. China's economy started picking up in the 80s.

And my fault on using the word "meat." I never meant to imply they had none. They had little and it wasn't beef. This is also across the population near the cities, not one person, here or there.

Ok, I'm guessing this is something you've observed and you don't actually have any proof?

You mean like, "I read it on an Internet link, so it must be true" kind of proof? No. I don't have that. I didn't learn it by reading it on the Internet, so I don't have a link. But I did learn it and you can, too, if you wish.

Yes, I observed the people in China. And I looked for signs of malnutrition. And the whole thing was amazing...to me, anyway. You can just look around at people and see it all. The younger they are, the bigger and taller they are. It's really, really cool to see.

For me, it wasn't the meat part as much as the difference of a little capitalism tossed into the mix. But the meat...sorry, beef...is a direct result of the capitalism. I don't want to get all political. I know there is some kind of board rule about that. But the whole thing really impressed me.

No, I mean like "I read it in a published study done in a reputable journal" kind of proof.
I'm not trying to be harsh here, but your own observations are not scientific fact.

Again, any good library will have textbooks, medical journals and medical dictionaries. all the info you want on malnutrition and introducing meat into a population's diet. I may be off my rocker, but I think the WSJ wrote it up once, too.

If you want proof, it's out there to read and to see. If you want me to go search it out for you, I am afraid I won't be doing that.

I only asked you because you presented it to us as scientific fact. No one else brought up the idea of meat-eating being correlated to height - so it seemed natural to ask you to back up these claims. Especially because "beliefs" are often tossed around on the Internet like they're facts. Mostly, though, I was interested to read about it, so I'll see if I can find anything on my own.

I'd stick with medical stuff. The beef people and the vegetarian people all have their own agendas and can't really be trusted not to manipulate things. Groups that claim to be experts on nutrition frequently have an agenda, as well.

If you really do learn about it, you're going to want to go see it for yourself...if you do, take some videos and post them!

Have fun! :)

Sorry your post is mostly hyperbole. Obviously people are vegetarians for different reasons(nutrition, love of animals, dislike of farming practices), different agendas, different specifications. Vegan,lacato-ovo, raw food, etc. But unless you are in the strictist monastic order of Budhism you must realize that everything you do will impact some species directly or indirectly. You can make efforts by not wearing leather by not using poisnous pesticides by resticting your carbon imprint by purchasing make-up from responsible companies. It's absurd to think that a person could banish themselves from a world that has used the animal for millions of uses for centuries in order to be responsible. And yes, you can use that leather turniquit to save my life but if I have a reasonable options I make personal choices to eliminate products that harm the rest of the worlds creatures.

Hyperbole? You actually reinforced my position. First, I have no problem with anyone who wants to be a vegetarian. If it is for health reasons and not wanting to eat red meat or anyother kind of meat I have no problem with it. But someone who says they dont eat meat because they somehow think it is somekind os animal rights stance is ludacris. You say you make reasonable options to choose what products you use to harm the rest of the worlds creatures. SO my question is....why? What determines what creatures you impact and how do you determine what creatures are worth more then others? Hyperbole? You even mentioned that it might be possible to live and leave a human footprint that will not have a negative impact on the earth. IMO your convictions and choices are pure convience.

On a related note- I'm guessing this is why Yachtsman serves their Beef Wellington deconstructed. i.e. it's easier to justify removal of a standard element in a classic dish when you deconstruct it and try and put a spin on it. Still sad. IMO- beef wellington w/o foie is a waste. It just gives the dish such a rich flavor.

It took my mom quite a while to understand why I didn't eat meat and that was ok, actually now that I think of it it took my hubby a while too but after a few years now he'll even look through a menu and ask is there anything I can eat. I try to use cruelty free products in my home as I'm trying to reduce our carbon foot print and again that's my personal choice. And since this is a Disney forum I found plenty to eat at Disney and had no problems finding food, and believe me I thanked my vegan stars I had elastic waist bands in my shorts because I ate and ate and ate!!

You do realize that elastic is made from oil which certainly isn't helping with the carbon footprint thing! ;)

lol what's wrong with organ meat?

I need to learn how to multi quote

I just think that is yucky. Now that being said I have never tasted it I just take a stand not to eat such things. It doesn't bother me that someone wants to eat that it is just not for me.

A lady that I work with use to get fried chicken livers on lunch. One day she was eating them and bit into one a green stuff when flying everywhere. She proceeded to puke her guts out in the trash can and went home sick. Missed the next few days of work from the incident. After seeing this I am glad with my decision not to knowingly eat organ meat.

I do not hunt, never was exposed to it as a child but many of my relatives do and I like deer meat. I would rather they be on my plate and not the front of my car or in my windshield. And in my county camouflage is a color to choose to register your car.

Raw oysters and clams are also something that I choose not to eat. If they are cooked maybe but not something that is at all appetizing. But I like shrimp, lobster and many fish. A funny story, we were at a family Christmas dinner and Katie's dad and uncle were eating oysters and the offered me some. I looked around and none of the three dogs were begging for the oysters. To me the plate looked disgusting and the if the dogs did not want any thing to do with them neither did I.

Thanks for the info on the reasons for the veggie burgers. Nice to have a civilized discussion to see the other side. Now onto politics.....

I don't have any proof such as medical journals to back up my vitamin deficiency claim but all I know is both of the people I know well who are vegetarians were told if they wanted to have a healthy pregnancy they would have to eat meat or subliment with a ton of vitamins. Both of them choose to eat fish and poultry for the sake of the baby. One of them wasn't 100% vegetarian all the time but the other was so it was harder for her. She actually had a hard time getting pregnant when she was on a vegetarian diet because no matter what she ate or how many nutritiousness she worked with she just wasn't getting the right balance of things in her body. Maybe this is just these two women as I'm sure there are probably loads of women who have children while they are living a vegan or vegetarian life but the two woman in my life who did this before children choose not to take hoards of synthetic vitamins and just to eat all organice and as humane as possible fish and poultry. Also the one male friend I have who is vegetarian was told by his doctor that due to his previous medical issues it was not a smart choice but then when he started being vegetarian they had to prescribe him all kinds of shots of vitamins to make sure his issues didn't come back.

PS: I also don't know how to multi-quote.

If you want to multi-quote...you can start to reply to the thread and just hit reply on each post you'd like quoted in your post. It will autopopulate in the box below started for your reply. You can also launch that box by hitting reply on the first post you want to quote and then reply again on the next post you wish to quote- and so on. So I hit reply on Uncle Lupe's post first and then hit reply on hellowonderland's post. Hope this helps.

I get asked this question a lot.

The first reason is that I didn't give up meat because I didn't like the taste. I gave it up for ethical reasons. I couldn't rationalize loving animals so much and yet eating them. Doesn't mean I don't still stare longingly at salami, lol.

I am being good but you make it so difficult.

I haven't read the whole 4 pages so I can be duplicating this but in 2008 WDW stopped serving fois gras. Maybe DL just caught up??? I also saw a post in here about Chicago, the alderman banned it and then rescinded the ban.
