I'm sure it's a cost cutting move. Just haven't figured out if it's based only on trying to cut costs due to the recession and economy or if it's something that's been in the plan

Maybe it's something that guests aren't really looking for in the morning. I doubt that many people are making reservations/eating there that aren't Port Orleans guests.

How many other table service restaurants that don't have direct access via boat or monorail to a theme park and/or isn't a character breakfast are open for breakfast?

It seems to be Boma, Maya Grill, and Olivia's. I highly doubt Boma or Maya Grill closes, but maybe Olivia's is next.
You are more than likely correct. As you pointed out it is one of the lesser known breakfast places. If they aren't filling the restaurant on a regular basis it makes sense to shut it down. Regardless of how much I like the banana stuffed french toast or the sweet potato pancakes simple economics dictates that if the place is not turning a profit or at least breaking even you have to close the doors.

Well, it wasn't at CBR's food court in May 2005 when I was there ... I would've jumped for the chance to get some, and I'd always been jealous of the people staying at POR and Poly who could get some.

And it's not currently on the menu at CBR (according to the menu on allears.net).
EEK . Was hoping it was not true. Yes I did see the CBR food court menu with no mention of the french toast being banana stuffed. There is the KONA cafe option of course but would have been great to have it at the CBR (everyday) :fork:

I can confirm that 2/21 is the last day for breakfast at Boatwrights. There will be no breakfast starting on 2/22, but dinner will still be served.

There is no word on if this is a cost cutting measure or not.

Word.

There. Feel better?

I don't!

I think you're giving way too much benefit of the doubt.

The place is always packed and one of the few places I seek out for breakfast as it's a meal I skip probably 85% of the time at home.

Now ... if occupancy is down dramatically ... like well below 50% nightly then I could see them possibly not making money on the place. But I doubt very strongly that's the case.

But otherwise it's just to save on labor and they aren't worried about the money they're losing.

And once it's gone, it ain't coming back.

I still long for meals at places like Bonfamille's and Ariel's that did huge business and were shuttered for similar reasons.

Stupidity.

This has made me very sad. We're staying at POFQ and we usually go to Boatwrights for breakfast on our last day. I loved their breakfast, especially the stuffed french toast. I guess we'll just have to plan something new then.

That is laughable. If I'm understanding you right, they are shutting it down just to be mean?

I think he's trying to say they are shutting it down even if it does make a profit. This is what WDW management has been doing for years. If it isn't making huge profits, its almost like they'd rather not be bothered with having to staff and run the place. Making small profits at lots of varied and unique locations isn't good enough, they want big numbers at big places where they can churn people in and out. They figure more people will just eat breakfast at the foodcourt just a few steps away, even though that place is already jampacked every morning for breakfast. Forget about having a nice peaceful table service breakfast meal. Get up early, scarf down breakfast and get to those morning EMH!!!

This applies to most closed dining locations actually, such as at BC and French Quarter (as were mentioned), but also all the closed dining locations at MK such as El Pirata, Adventureland Veranda, etc. Why have a whole crew running a place when you can make more money per labor hour with one guy selling crap from a ODV cart!?

Also most of the closures that were listed were closed due to 9-11. While I admit that not many have been reopened, some have; The Galley at Yatch Club being one.

With the exception of PI, where has this been the case on property, that a profitable establishment has been shut down recently?
