No Mickey, No Dragon='s LessThanFantasmic

Funny I saw the show less than a month ago two nights in a row and every single effect was working. Fantasmic is and has always been a huge complex show. A show so huge and complex is going to have things happen that keep certain effects from working. Maybe there seems to be more of a problem with Sorcerer Mickey at the end recently, but I guess would you rather them cancel the entire show or do the show with that one effect missing? Also why would people want such an innovative show such as Fantasmic to be replaced with just another firework show? If you don't like it, fine. More room for those that do enjoy it!

That's the best thing you can do. It's counterproductive to sit up here and nit pick about how bad Disney is and then be the first person to line up to go. Yes it's possible to have problems with certain things they do, but if 95% of your trip reports are about how bad things are then maybe it's time to spend money elsewhere.

Exactly... and that's why i'm taking a break from Disney... I'm not a doomer and gloomer.. Sometimes, there is a such thing as too much... And I may have just reached my Disney saturation point...

I was there on 10/5 and Sorcerer Mickey was also a no-show.

The dragon, however, made an appearance.

Actually, with Mickey not showing up on the mountain...it made the fireworks seems silly. He needs to be there conjuring them up!

Question to the OP...
Was it raining? Sometimes they cut parts of a show due to rain. (No rain when I had a Mickey no-show).

My show was oct 2 and no show Sorcerer Mickey... it felt silly.. SOME IMAGINATION HUH just felt empty... The torches worked during my show however...

Not good to hear multiple reports of no sorcerer Mickey. Sounds like there is a problem with the lift. If this is the case this obviously needs fixing ASAP. Anyone know more?

I saw the show about 3 weeks ago and everything was working just fine. I guess it just was the luck of the draw, and some go in looking for issues.

I wouldn't call noticing two of the show's biggest set pieces missing "looking for issues".

The show is in disgraceful condition. Especially considering the show wasn't played nightly for a good chunk of last year, during which time small things could have been fixed.

Great point, last year when F! went down to twice a week that would have been a great time to do some maintanance.

I was at Fantasmic last Sunday, not this past Sunday.. And sorcerer mickey was missing from my show too... I have seen the show so many times (one of my favorite shows on proeprty) and I knew right away he was missing...

The DoM Crew or the Pixie Dust Brigade are going to be in full force on this one '74... TDo is pathetic and deserve the boot... But hey, what do we know??? We only demand the best that DISNEY has always demanded of themselves... Yet, are deemed Doomers and Gloomers.. The real problem with Disney are the people in the Pixie Dust Brigade, led my self serving Lou "I KISS TDO's BUTT FOR FREEBIES" Mongello....

I don't want to focus on one person with an agenda to spin/lie for Disney when it is being done en masse by people looking for freebies from Disney ... besides, it will be my post that 'MOM' goes after first and I don't like my writing to diappear into the ether.

But as a WHOLE the fan community is largely responsible for Disney's continuing lowering of standards. I talked to a Celeb Imagineer out at DLR last month at length and this was HIS opinion/words (not mine, but I agree). Disney has used Social Media/Fan Sites (not saying this one, talking in general) to perpetuate a myth that they are the best at what they do and that the product of 2011 is not only better than UNI/IOA/anyone else but that it is better than what Disney put out in 1971 or 1991. It's a total pile of fetid cow turd, but that is what Disney's Social Media Department is paid to peddle ... and it helps if you have 'independent' sites agreeing with that viewpoint and trying to silence voices that point out that ... no, it isn't OK that people pay $85-plus a day to get into the Studios and when they see a signature show, so many effects (including key ones) aren't working.

This isn't a matter of bashing Disney or hating it as the feeble-minded critics will trot out.

This is a matter of giving guests what they paid for. What they have come to expect.

Not interested in excuses. I have seen this show probably 10 times in the last 2-3 years and there have always been significant issues with it. That's not acceptable ... unless you have a Disney Lifestyle site and want a free cruise on the Fantasy in March!

The show is in a very sad state... Has nothing to do with people here defending a minor glitch... The show has been in decline for a while.. Management sits on their butts collecting their bonuses while giving the guests a less that stellar product...

After this last trip I have decided I am now done with Disney's parks for a while... And if they don't improve, I'm done for good... I actually had a better time in my 3 days at Universal/IOA than in Disney...

I am not done with Disney. That would be giving in and giving them what they want, which is to lose all the older guests who have been loyal customers and lovers of the place for decades, so they can replace me/us with someone whose first visit was in 2004 and now owns DVC and thinks the place has never been better ... because, of course, they don't any better.

But I keep visiting WDW less and that saddens me. First, it's my local resort. I can go drive there before the sun goes down tonight. Second, it's where my love for the parks and themed entertainment was born.

BUT ... I'm not an idiot ... and I work hard for my $$$ ... so I'm likely to visit either DL, HKDL or DLP before I'll take the drive up Florida's Turnpike again.

BTW, off topic: Potter was amazing and kicks ANYTHING Disney has ever done....

I don't know that I'd go that far. But WWoHP is absolutely the most impressive O-town theme park development of this century BY FAR ... and just wait for Phase II ... so big it's going to be in TWO PARKS! (no, I am not kidding! kiss the plastic sharkie bye-bye!:))

UNI is upping their game and I've seen nothing to show Disney even gets they have a problem beyond the Hail Mary for Avatar, which is so far out in terms of being built, I can't even offer a real opinion because so much can/will change.

Wow,the evil of Disney social media, sounds like a great idea for a thread.

Would someone just ban this clown already?!

Yes. That's what we do in the USA (and UK :) ) when you don't like what someone is saying that goes against the status quo. We silence them. I suppose it's better than taking them out to a field and putting a bullet in their head.

We all know that he just comes here to stir the pot.

I come here to discuss Disney and themed entertainment and the business of major media. If that is stirring your pot of pixie dust then I am guilty and happy with it. You've come into this thread with nothing to add, just looking to take a shot and try and get the thread shut down. The MODS should really be looking to stop that behavior because it isn't healthy for real discussion.

Hell even Steve knows it and thats why he gave him that little "zing" back about DL's dragon.

Steve and I have talked and I think he understands where I am coming from, although I would love to meet him and talk in person. ... And Steve and I have differing views on how bad certain things are at WDW. Doesn't mean I don't respect his right to have those views. Steve was right about DL's dragon issues (which were fixed) being unacceptable. But that doesn't change WDW's situation at all.

I don't get it?! Why is this guy given a free pass to be a troll here?? Is it just because of his affiliation with Lee?

Hey pal, before I get nasty, I am many things, but a troll wouldn't be one. Get a clue, an education or both.

And I am not 'affilated' with Lee beyond being proud to call the man my friend. In the REAL world. Where it matters. He isn't just a fountain of REAL Disney knowledge and information, but also a great person too (and his Mrs is kinda sorta hot too!:D)

But I am so amused that Lee (Martin too for that matter, who is also a friend) can say the same thing and I get villified. I guess it's my strong use of the language and the fact they are more willing to tolerate fools than I am.

This is the same poster who was making snarky comments about this sites owner over at Discussion Kingdom. Anyone else would already have been banned and not welcomed back.

I love being snarky. I find it allows me to accept the absurdities of life so much easier. ... Now, why don't you go call 407-W-DISNEY and book another MAGICal vacation.:rolleyes::drevil:

Yes, but we all know it was shown on a staggered schedule to save loads of money (both on the show itself and by closing the park at 7 p.m., even on summer weekend nights).

I don't know it for a fact, but based on what I (and others) have seen, I'd be shocked if ANY work was done on it whatsoever.

Oh, and I love the snarky response that if you notice that half the show isn't functioning right that you are 'looking for issues' ... seriously that dude should run a Disney Lifestyle site.

It was. That's why we had over 1,000 posts on a dying site. And anothe thread with hundreds of posts. ... And not one disappeared either. No nasty battles either (that wouldn't have happened here, sadly). Just an intelligent discussion on what is a very powerful tool in today's world and how Disney is (mis)using it.

But eventually you get too close for comfort and things get closed. Unfortunately, it didn't disappear and is out there ... might make good fodder for a book ya know ... just saying!:)

First you get me excited that King Kong is returning and now crush me.

Potter is great, but Jaws is a Universal classic I'd hate to see replaced.:(

All I can say is if there's one thing scarier than a shark it's a woman with the initials JKR when she sees plans she doesn't like! :drevil:

Well, if we lose Jaws and gain Transformers, Kong, and some great Potter stuff, I guess it will even out as a win.

It looks like Transformers isn't coming here, after all ... basically because there's too much other stuff on the way, including Potter's HUGE, mind-blowing expansion.

But Transformers does nothing for me since I have no interest in the films ... I'm sure I'll check out the ride in Hollywood next year, though.

Ah, well, then I'm excited to see what's on the way.
