I'd like to say kudos to WDW1974 for first having this info out on 10/13.
And I'll tell you what, if Uni's plans are impressive enough, I will certainly take a few days away from Disney to visit both Harry Potter lands. We have traditionally been VERY loyal to Disney, but this year was the first year that we took a day away from Disney to visit Universal. Any expansion there w/o a competing expansion at Disney will only cause us to spend more time away from the Mouse. Gotta follow the best attractions in Orlando.

Universal is definitely pushing Disney at this point. They have an obvious hit with Harry Potter and they will get as much as they can out of it. Putting it in both parks could prove to be a brilliant move.

Both companies have a bunch of stuff planned for next year, as well as aggressive 5 year build plans as well. I wouldn't be surprised to see other substantial additions in the Disney parks to come online quickly as well.

I agree. When I moved closer to the area, I got an AP to Universal as well as keeping the one I had for Disney. When I make my weekend trips to Orlando now, I usually spend a day at the Uni parks before making my way over to the mouse. Some of my Disney loyalist friends (not from this board) made some jokes about me turning to the dark side. I simply said that if you are going to put out a quality product then I am going to go and enjoy it. Universal is putting out a great product now (besides their quick serve dining :ROFLOL:) and I will visit them as long as they continue to do that.

One can only hope Disney has more planned than FLE and Avatarland.

Studios desperately needs help -- not just in terms of massive additions, but substantial refurbs or changes to what they have (horrible parade, GMR needs a complete refresh, Beauty & Beast show needs replacements, Drew Carey....are you kidding me?)

This is what I see as a major problem across the resort. It's one thing if you don't have any new or major attractions, but there are so many attractions that are barely functioning and horribly dated. Unfortunately, Disney doesn't seem to see the need to keep these things fresh. They'll add new, large and marketable projects and let the old ones continue to deteriorate.

Hollywood Studios has a lot amount of stuff coming soon. I have been calling this update "a typical hollywood facelift." You will be introduced to an amazing park and some parts would be recognizable (in a good way).

Honestly, these two HUGE projects are enough for me in the next few years. I cannot wait for Avatarland.

Can you elaborate? Any chance we'll see Admiral Snackbar?

I take it you are an Avatar fan? From what I've been seeing on the boards, people seem to be cautiously optimistic about the Avatar project, mostly because of its supposed scale and scope, and Cameron's involvement. I don't see many people saying they cannot wait, because essentially nothing has been announced yet, other than the land is going to be developed.

I just wonder about the rest of the outdated and stale attractions on property? Just because there are going to be some additions elsewhere, Ellen's Energy Aventure, the rotting Carousel of Progress, and 10+ year old MK parade are still fine with you?

. No Admiral Snackbar. The facelift will include expanded existing landS and developing a more laid out park than what is currently there.

A few attractions are being expanded to introduce as "new".

The whole thing is quite spectacular actually. I'm just hoping no budget cuts happen because what they are wanting to do will please fanboys.

Admiral Snackbar (It's a Snack!) was Lou Mongello's idea, I just thought it was brilliant.

Considering that the park only has a handful of rides, any expansion/reintroduction would be tough. My guesses are as follows:
  • Lights Motors Action re-themed with more Cars stuff
  • Honey I Shrunk the Kids playset rethemed to Bugs Life
  • Great Movie Ride refurbishment
  • Jedi Training Academy moving into Sounds Dangerous
  • American Idol being replaced with something else

Very much so. I know it's premature to say I cannot wait, but I cannot wait.

Ok fine, some rides are outdated...so don't ride them!

As much as I would hate to see a Cars world copy from DL in WDW I think it would fit perfect with the DHS theme. I also like your ideas above... it would just make more sense and make the park run smoothly... anything for Hot Stage or whatever 1? LOL

Cars Land is not coming to DHS because they want to build numerous Pixar attractions.

The park will be more laid out more clearly. You will be able to notice which land you are going into. No longer will you have to walk into Pixar Place and then hit the Backlot Tour.

Could you enlighten us on any sort of timetable? I feel like if FLE opens, effectively, in 2013 and Pandora doesn't open till 2017. There could be an expansion within that time frame. Construction would have to start soon though.....

D23 Expo March 2013?

The fact that someone could argue against a Star Wars themed expansion or land to DHS pretty much blows my mind.

Star Wars is the biggest movie franchise in terms of decades of cultural influence... period. Potter may get there because it is compelling and equally well developed, but until it has an entire industry based on it for thirty years it is hard to compare them. Star Wars has helped define our popular culture. A worthy "land" in a theme park is as close to a sure fire home run as I can possibly imagine.

As an earlier poster stated, I'm sure the licensing cost has held back Disney, but if attendance at DHS was to increase by 10-15% it could be easily justified.

You might but I wouldn't hold your breath. Concept art was just recently completed for the first project couple months ago while the other project concept art was just recently completed.

They are in more phases than FLE and Avatarland will have.

There is no timetable set right now for various reasons.

So FLE was 4-1/2 years from announcement... Avatar 5-6 years...

So these HS concepts would be 8-9 years out if they ever happen? Park needs help. Not in a decade... in the next two years.

Disney's development schedule leaves a lot to be desired.

Agreed. Avatarland and FLE, while seeming to be admirably large projects, are just not enough to help with the aging attractions throughout the resort. Studios, of course, needing the most help at this point.
