No mention of Capt EO

It's interesting how in the past couple of weeks' worth of endless coverage on Michael Jackson, I haven't seen a single mention of Capt EO when they talk about his long career. No footage, none of the music from it, not even a mention of the name. Maybe it has been mentioned, but I've been watching a LOT of the coverage, and have been reading a lot about it on the Internet, and having seen anything whatsoever about Capt EO.

And yet, when you come here, there are numerous threads about it. I think that's a good example of how maybe we Disney fans are not necessarily representative of what matters to the general public, entertainment wise. Just an observation.

I did see shots of MJ with Mickey and Minnie.

To be honest, I wouldn't recognize Captain EO footage if it was shown. It predates my Disney experience. :o

Well honestly Captain EO was fairly minor in the grand scheme of things. I think there are so many threads on here because it's disney-centered. Hello. The majority of the country doesn't care about old theme park attractions that have been retired. Sure it was cool at the time, but it's long gone.

While I was in Florida when he died Cfnews13 mentioned it a few times. I also saw it mentioned on KTLA when I ot back home. The reason both of these stations probably mentioned it is because they are both near a Disney park.

I beg to differ. Michael Eisner went out of his way to get a Michael Jackson attraction because of how huge he was at the time. Not to mention George Lucas and Francis Ford Coppola were involved. It was a huge project.

Well, while Captain EO hasn't been mentioned much, the Magic Kingdom was in the tribute video played at his memorial today. Does anyone know what that footage was from?

All this coverage is a bit ridiculos I understand what he did for music but he is a celebrity that died. Why must these sports and HW stars be put on such a pedistal.

Mine as well. I have only ever known Honey I Shrunk the Audience since my first visit in 1996.

I was reading a music related forum a couple of nights ago and one of the regular posters happened to mention Captain Eo.

He said he has a close friend who works for the Disney Company. Said friend said that folks at Disney were actually viewing this film a few months back with some intention to release it. Now in what form ...commerically, or theatrically, in a Park..it was not said. I found it interesting that it was noted it had been considered..month before MJ's passing. Perhaps they were reviewing it in case MJ's big comeback tour kicked off another wave of 'MichaelMania'?

I always liked the movie, but can see it has aged. It would still be neat to see it again on the big screen...maybe even update the effects a little and release it in Disney Digital 3-D...or even better, IMAX.

Wow..just imagine that- Eo on an IMAX screen, with MJ's songs blasting with their killer sound setup?

Oooo ....i can dream....

I too am a bit suprised that they didn't show any of the footage at his memorial. I know it wasn't one of the most important moments in his career, but I imagine it must have meant a lot to him because he loved Disney so much. It was such a wonderful ceremony, though. Hearing his daughter speak shattered my heart. I hope that moment will make people realize he was a human being.

There is other moments that some have forgot...He did do a voice of the The big construction worker at the Psych ward in The Simpsons and he also did a cameo as Agent M for MIB 2.

Jackson changed the way we experience music and art, despite his personal misgivings. So I can understand the media coverage.

Captain EO was a landmark 3d attraction in its time. If you are unfamiliar with some of the particulars, I highly recommend the Ultimate Tribute to Captain EO on mousebits, as I'm sure Martin would as well.

It was incredible for the time, and really showed the George Lucas influence. Definitely worth a view!

Captain EO really was a neat show. I don't recall much of seeing it in Epcot since I was young'n at the time, but from what I do remember, the whole audience was pulled in by the show. Sure, looking at it today, it sometimes feels a bit campy, but it's still a movie with a lot of heart.

But anyways, does anyone know what that footage was from where MJ was walking down Main Street at the MK?

I loved Captain EO I think it was much better than HISTA. They should bring it back as a tribute, just for a bit. I think it would be a hit. Especially with todays screens and sound!!!

Maybe the controversy with the negative aspects of Michael? Which I think he wasn't.
Or maybe newscasters just were rushed into the best material and overlooked Captain EO.

And wasn't that MK with Michael Footage from 1990-1991 for a personal visit?

Yes it was a huge project. For DISNEY. This project did not reach the entire country or his fan base. It reached a select group of theme park goers. That's why it doesn't get the play like the other highlights do. Let's be realistic. You throw up an EO clip and only a small percentage are really gonna know what it is.

I have been going through a lot of my old items related to Michael Jackson this past week, since his passing, as a means of closure in some respects. Since this relates to the topic, i thought i would share some of these fab photographs i came across in a great article i saved from a mid 80's amatuar film maker's magazine called 'CineMagic'.

The entire article goes very in-depth describing how the film was made from a filmaker's perspective which is awesome compared to the usual watered down general overview most printed articles often are on such topics. I have scanned a few of the photos as they are nice ones.

I LOVE this movie! It really is a great one for Michael's fans. He will be missed.

Enjoy the pix!
