I'd always add to my spiel...

"... and if you feel the need to talk through the presentation, as you have done though my introduction, please exit now through the doors to your left.."

Usually not, and then I would approach them and ask them to be quiet during the show - or, I would use my line from above and if that didnt shut them up - I would pause and stare and wait, which usually prompted other guests to "Shhhhh" them.

I, like most people, get annoyed by guests talking throughout a show or ride. But to tell you the truth, if I were at WDW and I witnessed a CM handling it the way you describe how you do it, I would find that CM very unprofessional. Surely there must be better, more "Disney-like", way's to handle this type of situation.

A camera flash lasts for an incredibly tiny fraction of a second. I have never once noticed the kind of details you are describing in the span of a quick camera flash. Sorry, but that's a little over the top.

As far as whether or not the pictures will come out, who cares? It's their pictures, so how does it really affect you?

my eye's a pretty quick and I suffer from it on every dlp beamer or plasma monitor .. so yes .. I can see a flash ilumination(it's like the bright picture burns in for a few miliseconds) .. that's it ..

It isn't really just that one flash. It becomes several flashes, and yes it is really distracting and taking away from my enjoyment of the attraction that I paid to see. So it is affecting me.

If you are defending the rule breakers then you must be one of THEM.

Well, it depends on the ride. If it was a ride like Jungle Cruise, then the spiel would fit in perfectly and would be pretty funny. If it were something like Star Tours, it would be slightly inappropriate.

That seems like an unfair (and very closed-minded) conclusion to draw. I, like sbkline, do follow the rules as a matter of fact. And if you read my post, tell me where in it did I "defend the rule breakers"? My question, as with sbkline's, was how does it affect you?

Perhaps I'm just somebody who is better able than others to immerse myself in the magic and not let things like that get to me. As someone who also has paid to experience an attraction, I would just find it silly to allow myself to focus on that type of stuff. Life is too short.

That's a good point. The CM who mentioned it, though, has indicated he did this in one of the "shows". And it appears from his signature that he works (or worked) in Epcot. I can't think of any shows in Epcot where this would be an appropriate way of handling it. Now if it were taking place in, say, the Adventurers' Club or the Comedy Warehouse, I think it might be appropriate if handled correctly. But of course, those are shows where part of the experience involves the guests getting poked fun at by the performers. None of the shows in Epcot are that way. So handling it that way, in that type of venue, is very unprofessional, in my opinion, regardless of the fact that the guest may have been in the wrong.

If bright flashes affect you in that way, I would think you'd be more concerned about some of the bright flashes that are part of some of the Disney attractions themselves. How do you handle rides like Space Mountain, or rides where they use a flash to take YOUR picture (like Splash, Everest, etc)?

So once again, the rule breakers are right and anyone attempting to correct the situation is wrong.

My biggest pet peeve is people who talk during the stretch room in HM!!! That's my favorite part of the attraction and most times you can barely hear over RUDE people talking very loudly!!

For the pictures issue, I get annoyed when someone is snapping away on dark rides simply because, they are supposed to be just that...dark. Once I'm in and settled on a ride, and my eyes have adjusted to the dark room, I really don't enjoy getting blinded by flashes going off.

If it's a ride like LwtL, Jungle Cruise, heck even Splash Mountain I don't mind, but rides like HM, PotC, SSE, and others, please, if your going to take pictures, turn the flash off.

Don't let some posters here hear you say that. You are taking away their God given right to become obnoxious.

"Once again"...where in any of my posts have I said the rule breakers are right? :brick:

There are right ways, and there are wrong ways, to "attempt to correct the situation". In the venue in which this CM appears to have worked, I believe he handled it the wrong way. Do I have the answer off the top of my head, as to what would be the right way? No. But that's something that I, as a paying guest, leave up to Disney management to solve. Make sense?

By the way, word of advice....People will take your opinion more seriously if you take the time to read THEIR posts more carefully. :animwink:

I'm with sbkline and tigfan on this one. Sure, a flash is annoying, but one or two throughout the length of an attraction is nothing to get all bent out of shape about. Now, I can understand why you would be upset if someone kept taking pictures the ENTIRE length of the ride. Imagine a flash for every scene in HM or SSE. That would be quite annoying! However, as far as one or two goes, don't let it ruin a ride for you.

One of the things I always do is make a game out if it. Before going on, I think, "Okay, how many flash pictures will there be on this ride?" This way, it no longer becomes something that annoys me. A common place is the 180 top projection on SSE. I guess these people don't realize that that's a projection, and a flash will not work on it. I laugh to myself everytime someone does it, thinking how the final picture will look. I do the same thing for fireworks.

In the end, I suppose I'm more amused than angry about the whole thing, amused because those people aren't smart enough to realize how bad that picture will be with a flash, or that a flash does absolutely nothing when photographing fireworks. Silly tourists!

I've often noticed that a large portion of the talking in this section are people reciting the spiel verbatim. Others are the people doing the fake screams, etc. I think the latter is to be expected in an attraction that bills itself as the "Haunted" Mansion. What Disney should do is completely change this scene and add a bunch of unexpected surprises. It would be cool if this part was kind of like what they do in ToT, where every time you experience it, you never know exactly what is going to happen. My guess is that you'd have a lot less talking, and more people paying attention to what's happening. Just a thought.

I was never really much against flash photos in rides, i found them annoying but coped.. until Nemo and Grand Fiesta opened at Epcot.

My ride on Nemo was a flash every 5 seconds from both two vehicles infront of me and the vehicle deirectly behind me. It was beyond annoying.

Further, Grand Fiesta - this woman kept turning around to take photos and literally blidinging me because she was pointing the camera right at me.

Around the "small world" section I became proactive. I turned on my camera and decided to put her little point and shoot to shame. I just had my camera sitting and waiting. Everytime she spun around to take a photo and blinded me I took a photo with my much more powerful flash.

The first time she looked shocked and seemingly didn't understand what had just happened. The second she looked annoyed, and the third she looked downright irate. I have the photos to prove it :)

By the fourth time she swung around to take a shot (remember, this started with me doing it in the small world scene) we were to the Fiesta and she pointed, went to shoot, and stopped as I raised my camera right at her and smiled. She huffed and stopped for the rest of the ride.
