I can't stand it when a guest detracts from an attraction, but I loathe it more when a CM detracts more in order to stop the guest.

Y'know, now that I think of it I haven't personally seen a CM ruin the show just to deal with a guest.... the most I've gotten are CM's that are either nonchalant about what they're doing or go out of their way to point out the fact that my knowledge is lacking.

I asked a lady at MGM (when it was MGM) where the eggroll, as pointed out in my Birnbaum's, cart was. She treated me like I just asked her where the Jaws ride was. Like I said, she wasn't mean to me... just kinda... awkward. I was sort of "The wierd guy asking for some strange thing" for like 5 minutes at that pin shop. "Hey mark...MARK! Have you heard of an eggroll cart here? Nah, me neither. Yeah, this guy's asking for it"

Well, that's not counting this last trip where they were training alot of new CM's and their spiels were sort of off.

One lady at Star Tours mispronounced Endor. The warsie in me wanted to flip out, but I kept my composure.

We encountered the excessive talking through a ride on our most recent trip. We were on "Its a Small World" and the guy behind us talked on his cell phone the entire time. He was speaking another language and was soo loud! We got so irritated that we turned around and took his picture (in a not so obvious manner). His kids looked miserable and he just chatted the entire ride! Why get on the ride if you are gonna talk on a cell phone the entire time. They need to start saying: No drinking, eating, smoking, flash photography and No cell phone use. If you feel you need to use your cell phone, please see a cast member for assistance.

This was the second time we took a photo of someone who bothered us. A rather tall lady, foreign as well, stood right in front of us ontop of a planter as we waited for Spectromagic . We had been waiting for over 30 mins and she walks right up and blocked my 5 year olds view. She was tall enough she didn't need the planter to stand on. We took a picture of her backside. :D

Hey... it makes us laugh. If you annoy us on a ride or rudely block our view, we will take your picture!

Wow...I wonder if I was in the same boaton Small World. (because there couldn't possibly be 2 people talking loudly on a cell phone at Disney) :lookaroun

I actually got off the ride and spoke to a cast member immediately and asked if they have rules about cell phones on rides because this person talked so loudly we spent the ride incredibly annoyed (even more annoyed than just hearing that damn song over and over) :p

It wasn't that busy so the cast member allowed us to reboard immediatly and do the ride again. By the way...she said they don't have any rules about cell phones but it's not the first time she had a complaint

I've had more than a few rides ruined by people who just can't be quiet. Now I don't expect complete silence. We all are going to sing along and make a comment here and there. Not a big deal. But having a conversation that has nothing to do with he attraction is really inconsiderate. But the worst are definitely the idiots who just can't leave the cell phone off for a few minutes. Really, if you feel the need to talk on your cell phone during a ride, don't be surprised when it accidentally gets knocked out of your hands.

As for the flash photography...yeah it really does ruin the attraction. For those of you who can laugh or ignore it, I envy you. What I wouldn't give for the ability to not let it get to me. But it does. It does because it distracts me from the immersive world I'm in. It reminds me that I'm not really in a Haunted Mansion, a caribbean village or a fanciful world of happy children singing. It allows me to see what Imagineers have carefully concealed with their lighting. And I am unfortunately in the camp of those who feel the need to retaliate. I love mousermerfs story of using his own camera against the offending picture taker. There is a difference between someone who doesn't know how to turn off a flash and accidentally snaps a flash pic and the inconsiderate jerk who does it on purpose over and over again despite their being an announced rule against it.

Why does this happen? Why are people so inconsiderate? There are no consequences for peoples inconsiderate actions, that's why. Castmembers aren't allowed or given proper support to stop these folks. If they try, the offenders complain and they get in trouble with their supervisors.

I feel that there should be some simple rules of enforcement. If you take more than one flash picture in am attraction, you lose your camera for the day. If you talk on your cell phone in any attraction or show, you lose the cell phone for the day. I really don't like rules that are not enforced.

None of this will ruin my day. But it is getting worse, because people are becoming less considerate. I would hope Disney tries to do something before it's too late.

My post:
I, like most people, get annoyed by guests talking throughout a show or ride. But to tell you the truth, if I were at WDW and I witnessed a CM handling it the way you describe how you do it, I would find that CM very unprofessional. Surely there must be better, more "Disney-like", way's to handle this type of situation.

Kimmychad's response:
if you hate cm's that much dont go to disney

"Hate CMs"??? How on earth could anyone infer from my post that I "hate CMs"??

Me too! Gee, I guess that means you and I both must "hate" CMs. :hammer:
nonsense. CM's are good eating, once you get past the CP's, CR's, new CM's, and those who appear emaciated. The ones with Blue ID's, Blue ID's with a gold stripe, and those wearing business/biz-casual are the best eating, since they've usually been well fed. Anything less than these, and it's best just to toss them back.

Personally, I recommend a younger Blue ID. Cook them for 10 minutes @ 375ºF for every pound of CM you intend on cooking.

Well I am going to respond without reading every page but I got the idea. I do agree that CMs can handle things in a certain way to be more "Disney like" BUT in the case where someone is obviously not respecting other guests & the experience they are trying to have at a show/movie/attraction this person needs to be dealt with. At these times no matter what a CM could say could be taken the wrong way. So while it would be great to ask nicely the first time then wait & have to ask nicely again & again because the guest doesn't listen until they do I would cut to the chase & being as nice as possible but making sure the guest responded tell them to stop talking. I would rather have one guest think that a CM was being "rude" then have a battle the whole show to get the guest to be quiet & have the show ruined for everyone. I hope that made sense & even though I am not a CM & may never be one I have a great respect for all of them & how hard they try to take care of these problems as they happen in the best way they can.

merf- I liked your story. It was very amusing.:animwink:

On IASW we had this family behind us that just talked and talked. It wasn't even about the ride. The parents were talking about work and just all sorts of nothing. Yeah I've seen the ride tons of times, but it happens to be one of my favorites (even the song:lookaroun). But I didn't say anything, I wish I would have but I didn't want to be angry for the rest of the day. All I did is when we got have the ride and they were walking near us I just said to my DD that I was thankful that she was such a good kid and not talked all thru the ride.

If bright flashes affect you in that way, I would think you'd be more concerned about some of the bright flashes that are part of some of the Disney attractions themselves. How do you handle rides like Space Mountain, or rides where they use a flash to take YOUR picture (like Splash, Everest, etc)?

ride picture flashes have a different direction .. they are pointing at you and not vice versa ... flashes in another attraction (like the forrest scene in snow white) have the same effect but here it's wanted, you get a faint glimps of SW in the dark .. so why should I dislike it ? :veryconfu

from one post i couldn't. but from your post history and constantly bashing cm's it would seem that you dislike them. and people in general as your forever picking a fight with someone on here. you actually harassed another member for getting her money stolen from a con artist.

Last time we were on COP there were about 4 or 5 men behind us. They were old enough to know better, I would say they were in their fifties, and looked well-dressed, almost as if they worked for Disney in some way. They spoke Spanish very loudly through the whole of the show. Everyone kept turning and giving them dirty looks - but it didn't bother them at all. We couldn't even hear the show. I wondered why they even bothered with the attraction, they should have gone to a restaurant for their chat!

As for the flash photography thing - I hate it. I am prone to getting migraines, and bright lights or flashes can set one off. For some reason my eyes are ultra sensitive to light, and if someone flashes a camera in a dark room towards me, not only do I possibly get a migraine, but the flash blinds me for the next couple of minutes - and is also very painful.

The flashes from the ride photos don't seem too bright - they don't bother me. The worst thing for me in the MK is the Buzz ride. Near the end you go through a room where the light is flashing, and when we go through there, I have to fully cover my face.

I also can't cope with strobe lighting, so I always ask when it is my first time on a ride if there are any flashes or strobe lighting.

My favorite breeds of blue-badge are spikey-haired overenthusiast with pastel shirt choice (the ones in garish patterns are to be thrown back though) and lightweight v-neck sweater woman (even though it's 95 degrees) in sensible shoes wearing a thin gold necklace.

Their colorful pelts make them a prize catch for photogs shooting for sport and guest collateral.

Maybe I misunderstood your post. Here is what you said...

my eye's a pretty quick and I suffer from it on every dlp beamer or plasma monitor .. so yes .. I can see a flash ilumination(it's like the bright picture burns in for a few miliseconds) .. that's it ..

I interpreted that to sound as though any bright flashes are unpleasant for you. You used words like "suffer" and "bright picture burns in", so I took that to mean it's true for any bright flashes, not just camera flashes at the hands of a guest. Sorry if I misunderstood.
