I read somewhere that Disney will never make annoucements in its parks for lost children, etc...as they do not want to ruin the guests experience. The only time they will announce something will be if someone has died (obviously not "someone has died folks!", they would probably call for the family), or is seriously injured. If you hear a personal announcement at disney, you know something bad has happened.

I can't believe I only just noticed this new area of the forums!!! :hammer: How long has it been here? Great job steve :D

The minute we heard someone being called on the speakers even inside of the pavillions, we got chills -we knew something serious had happened. Thank God, in my time working there, I only heard it once or twice.

Also, can you imagine how many names would be called if they allowed pagings for "lost" people in the parks? It would be very annoying!

Yeah, one day I heard a voice come over the speakers at AK paging a guy from Chicago...knowing that it basically meant that he was about to find out about a loved one's death was a bit...disconcerting, to say the least.

Can anyone clarify if it is just death, or death and serious injury.

I heard an announcement at Californian Adventure in Dec. but I am not sure if they follow the same policy there.

Are these the only reasons they will ever announce someone's name over the loudspeaker?

One of the strangest things I've ever heard was when I was visiting The Grand Floridian. I was waiiting for a boat at the dock, when I could hear all the way acoss the lagoon from the MK, they were calling someone to the front of the park! That was really strange, seeing as I cound hear it all the way from the GF, and since I'd never heard Disney do that before. And now that I found out that they only do it if someone has been injured or has died, its kinda chilling to think back about that.

I think that generally, all announcements of any kind are made by some sort of character (ie. when a parade is due to begin), and that is only in one part of the park....so to hear a human voice come booming out throughout the park must be a bit of a shock.

Yes, this kind of announcement is heard everywhere in the parks, even inside the pavillions and inside of the rides. The background music stops and you hear them calling the person or family. Lucily, it doesn´t happen too often.

So, when someone is called, what do they ask them to do or where to go? Do they call all the parks at the same time or only announce at one park and wait for a response? What is said in the announcement?

The time when I heard it, I was inside of the Mexican Pavillion and they were calling a few people actually... I remember they called a family from somewhere and later that day they called another one. They called both at least twice. They were asked to go to Guest Relations. I am pretty sure it´s GR which handles all these and decides to make the announcements. I am not sure if the announcement is made at the four parks, I am guessing it is, unless they have more information to locate the family, in which case, I am sure the announcement can be avoided.

this one is beyond even Guest Relations control... it's done by Reedy Creek and the Park Duty Manager. But guest relations is notified as well.

May 24th it happened at the MK about an hour before the SpectroMagic Parade. They paged for a family to report to the front gate. Threw us off. Had only heard that once before and knew it was not good.

How do they find out if a family member died? Like, is it when a family member is at the parks and dies or gets seriously injured they announce it? Because most families tend to stay together in the parks so they would know whats going on anyways

Once we were at Blizzard Beach and they paged someone what was worrying was it was about a child as they announced "would the parents of..", the problem was that you could hardly make out the announcement over the PA systemit was all sort of muffled. Apart from that i haven't heard any other announcements.
