Apart from that i haven't heard any other announcements.

The only thing I'm thinking is that in the water parks, it may be a bit different... And plus, it might not be so bad if its a kid- they probably call the parents for less serious things than if its an adult...

Anyways, thats interesting... I don't think that I ever remember hearing an announcement...

Also, Fastpass may help locate family members... Like, to see if they've gotten one in the last few hours... And park passes- to they... check you out of the park (I know they don't at closing, but in the middle of the day?) Like, can they tell if your in the park?

that's kinda creepy....i hope i never hear an announcment like that!

i think i heard an announcment at a water park, but maybe because they are smaller it is less of a big deal to make a lost person announcement.

Also if its a child and they are lost in a water park, then it may be more urgent to find out if they are in danger or not, than when you know they are on dry land in the magic kingdom.

This would only help if the person was an annual passholder or a resort guest. Disney does not link your name with park hoppers or single day tickets. Even with resort guests Disney does not differentiate the first name of the party hence all resort guest cards list the name of the cardholder who pays for the room.

Heard one yesterday at EPCOT.

Everything stopped.

The announcement played.

Chill down my spine...

Back to usual.

:( If it weren't for this thread, I wouldn't have known what it was.

Remember,

There's no such things as lost children at WDW...

Only "lost parents."

(This way the kids can shift the blame to their parents when they take off)

I would just like to say this rumor isn't completely true. I know some people that work at Guest Relations at Epcot. It is policy not to use the loud speakers to call for a missing person. However, if the guest makes a big enough fuss...and the person can not be found in normally two-three hours then Guest Relations will finally break down and page the guest to get the complaining guest to shut up. The best way to tell if its a family emergency however is if the announcement tell them just to report to a nearby cast member. Normally if its a family emergency the page may include a call number for the guest to use. But lost guest will just be told to report to a desginated meeting area.

When my high school was at wdw for our sr trip... we were at epcot and we heard our principal's name and our high school ("will mr.... from Slidell High please come to Guest Relations") over the park... well.. turns out, someone had gotten really sick and had to be taken to the hospital.

On our last trip we heard a family paged. My heart just sank as I wondered what must have happened.

But on a good note, I have heard of people being paged for something good. The one I recall was that someone was on a donor list and thought it would be a while, if ever, before they received their transplant. While they were on vacation at WDW a donor became available. They were paged in the parks so they could return home immediately.

Are these the only reasons they will ever announce someone's name over the loudspeaker?

One of the strangest things I've ever heard was when I was visiting The Grand Floridian. I was waiiting for a boat at the dock, when I could hear all the way acoss the lagoon from the MK, they were calling someone to the front of the park! That was really strange, seeing as I cound hear it all the way from the GF, and since I'd never heard Disney do that before. And now that I found out that they only do it if someone has been injured or has died, its kinda chilling to think back about that.

Nope.

They used the all-park paging system to annouce to guests on September 11, 2003, that "Disney World is now closed." My cousins were in Typhoon Lagoon when they heard it - and all the cast members were looking around in shock. They had no idea what was going on. They all left, got free passes, and were informed at their resorts what was going on. Very weird to hear that Disney World was closed - that just doesn't happen!

If you're talking to me, I'm sorry. That "NO!" was supposed to be an exclamation, as in, an excited NO to announce that I did indeed hear another type of announcement. It's hard to type emotions properly, haha.

PA System

Would they also use them in case of a natural disaster? Say an earthquake, flash flood, monsoon, tornado, whatever else when you need to get people to safety quickly?

I watched a couple of clips on Youtube of people at Tokyo Disney during, and after the 2011 quake. As soon as the quake hits, and many times there after, you could hear announcements and updates over the PA system.

I would imagine yes if it was necessary but Disney has a massive evacuation plan for that that all CMs know about so it may not even be necessary. So many CMs carry nextels and blackberries that it would probably suffice to have information spread internally and then delivered to guests.
