No 20K for AK?

Jt, if you take what Joe Rodhe has said this whole time about DAK's overall theme then you should know that 20k movie tie in would never fit.

I honestly think there would be no way for this or JTTCOTE would fit or get approved by Rodhe. Plus I've heard more times that it was all fan made than saying it was an actual legit rumor.

You heard wrong.
It was not a fan made rumor. It was a real concept pitched for DAK.
Fans took it and ran with it, though. Assumed it was further along in the process than it ever really was.

Was it about this supposed prequel of 20k?

Why would they pitch this ride to DAK when there's so much else to work with? It borders on what does and doesn't fit for DAK.

BTW, the only 20k rumor I've heard about was also including Journey. Is that true Lee?

Yes, you've said it wasn't a clone before or at least eluded to it. Nothing did ever come of it, did it?
Not last time I looked. 11 months since groundbreaking and.... no groundbreaking.

That`s the one, if I may - though there were several differant scales and phases depending on which route they wanted to fund.

A Mysterious Harbor could work behind the Rivers of America. The Liberty Belle could give you access to it. That would be a great place to house Journey to the Center of the Earth or 20k.

I don't think they chose the FYL Expansion over this. They could have simply abandoned the concept, much like TL 2055, Discovery Bay, etc. I think DAK should simply get a land themed after Mythical creatures it could be called Mythica like the show at TDS, I don't like the name Beastly Kingdomme though, it's like having a kingdom inside a kingdom.

They should tear out speedway in MK and put Mysterious Island/Discovery Island right on top of it, where it would be right next to Tomorrowland and Fantasyland where it belongs.

I always thought A Journey To The Center Of The Earth ride themed to dragons would have been cool, though :(

They could do that as well. It would make the transition from TL to FYL a bit more cohesive if you will.

Are you sure it wasn't just a bluesky excercise? Although im all for it it would seem that Joe Rhode would oppose it.

Yep. Looks dead.
Somebody get Verbinski on the phone....

Nice idea. But I don't see that happening. I think this movie will remain on hold until the film Secretariat comes out. Writer Randall Wallace(Braveheart, Man in the Iron Mask, We Were Soldiers) is directing that film for Disney about the racehorse of the same name. And Wallace just happens to have been writing the most recent draft of 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea: Captain Nemo. My bet is that Disney liked what they saw in Wallace's script and like what he is doing with Secretariat(which is filming now). I think Disney pushed McG out of the directors chair in hopes that Wallace will fill the postition soon.

Or it could be that genre films (20k, tron 2, pop, potc, wonderland) in general cost alot to make and are high risk/high return so it could be that the new Studio head is cancelling the genre films that are in preproduction to cut costs in order to please Iger instead focusing on low budget fare such as Hannah Montannah and stuff like the mighty ducks. Keep in mind rich ross is the guy that really pushed the hannah, jonas bros, thats so raven, etc. on Disney channel alienating the core auideance of disney fans and instead focusing on the tween market.

Nope, this is exactly what Iger says he doesn't want for Disney's live action slate. Iger is pushing for fewer but better quality films. This is how animation was brought around and this is how they will turn around live action. Pirates is the template going forward. By the way, they just signed Depp for 30 Million so I'd say that is what you could call "proof".

If Rich Ross wanted to turn Walt Disney Pictures into the tween studio, he would have approved Hannah Montana 2 and 3, High School Musical 4(for theatre release) Camp Rock(In Theatres), and Suite Life: The Movie. But he hasnt. Ross has done some good things so far. I like the moves Ross made recently to marketing department. Plus news is breaking that Disney is developing a film based off of the Alien Nation comics, which was a decison that Ross would have had to given the go ahead on.

I agree. Disney is making a great choice here too if you are right.

I wouldn't say they JUST signed Depp. That was a while ago if I remember right. And just to be safe, I'll wait to see how Depp is feeling. See if he's gotten over the Cook departure. But you are right about fewer films but better quality films. The hard part however is to pick the right one.
