Nintendo Switch 2

Curious to see how this is received in terms of initial demand.

It's an improved system but not a groundbreaking change like the Wii was, and you couldn't find that system for sale for a full year if memory serves.

Will an improved Switch and a new Mario Kart lead to demand exceeding supply, or will it be a slower launch like the WiiU, which was also an incremental update in some ways.

PS5 was in short supply as well, despite being "more of the same", but that was also fueled by COVID and people eager for a new source of entertainment.

The Switch concept was a huge boon for Nintendo and according to data they shared with investors the Switch has a high rate of people still playing vs. the stories of Wiis going into closets to collect dust. The only handheld “failure” from Nintendo was the 3DS which sold “only” around 76 million. It might not reach the same numbers as the first Switch but I don’t think they have anything to worry about with all of their developers focused on 1 system. If broken Pokémon games can sell the first Switch they’ll sell this one too lol

Imo Nintendo has found their “PlayStation.” All they need to do now is iterate on it and add different cool stuff each time.

They got people to buy the OLEd Switch so I don’t think they’re too concerned. In some ways I wonder if they might be following something like the old GameBoy strategy instead of the traditional home console strategy. Let the transition be more gradual versus trying to push a big sudden shift to the new console.

How could they pass up calling it the Super Nintendo Switch? There’s people of a certain age who would have easily paid a premium for a grey console with purple buttons.

I stuck with the same Switch since day 1 so not me even though I would’ve been the prime target for an upgrade lol.

Super Nintendo Switch would’ve been great but the Wii U debacle likely forced them to want to be extremely direct. They could still capture that market with a limited edition system so in the end they don’t lose much.

Nintendo tends to something new every second generation, with an upgrade generation in between.

If they follow this pattern the Switch 2 successor will be something more revolutionary, like the Wii was.

I have no idea what that could look like but Nintendo always manages to do something that sounds crazy and turns out to be amazing.

I can see them making a more portable version of the switch, something like the DS design with a proper foldable cover, smaller size, built in controllers, and better battery. The Switch is a good handheld, but I feel it's more suitable for taking into the bedroom as opposed to travelling with it out and about.

Yeah something is definitely going to come around eventually but we’re never going to see a box that just sits under the TV again. The fact that PC handhelds are starting to carve out their own niche and even PlayStation and Xbox have mentioned joining the fray shows that handheld play is here to stay. With diminishing returns increasing every generation I predict the day where eventually the raw power gap between a box and a portable will no longer be sufficient enough to make the box the clear and decisive winner and the portable will look more than “good enough” to the average person.

I can guess pretty confidently that the demand will be there. Nintendo has a pretty solid track record with making sure their systems are sold out for the first year or two minimum. When we got my son a Wii U, it wasn't easy to find. Unless it's priced too high, there will be actual demand. But you can count on Nintendo to really milk it for what they can.
Super Nintendo Switch would’ve been great
A SNS would be a great call back. Use the Nintendo grey and purple and keep the same color scheme as the cartridges fom nes through N64.

I'm a bit torn on switch 2. They are playing it extremely safe but if it ain't broke, no need to fix. For me this all come down to specs. The original switch is a dog. For me to purchase it needs to do a lot better. I'm by no means a graphics snob, I still play my sega Master system regularly. But it needs to do better with modern games. The backwards compatibility is a big plus though.

Weird how this thread just died even though we’re only a month out from launch. What are the overall thoughts here? Who got their preorders in?

^ nobody here outside of like 3 people talk video games, which is quite odd considering we have a large amount of people on the forum, lol.

That being said, I guess Ill have to wait and see if Nintendo sends me my email to outright buy it from them on the 8th.

I’ve seen that Target will be getting a lot of in store stock for launch day. You could try that.

I preordered for in-store pickup at Gamestop on launch day.

Kudos to Nintendo for getting enough consoles ready for launch that trying to pre-order wasn't frustrating in any way.

As far as excitement goes, I'm not dying to get my hands on it. Mario Kart is great and all but isn't a launch game with a wow factor like Super Mario 64 or Zelda were. It doesn't have the novelty factor that the Wii did.

I'm looking forward to playing the new game and revisiting some enhanced games. I never did finish Tears of the Kingdom. My enthusiasm is just slightly tempered however.

All good points. I need to get back to Tears as well so maybe the upgrade motivates that.
I work at a Target, Im not even sure if I could get one because they wouldnt let us buy PS5s during COVID. It was all online orders.
Same here. I secured mine for delivery. I got the Mario Kart bundle, SD card, and Pro Controller. My discount basically got me the controller for free lol

I think for me I'm out with switch 2 for the launch. We have the original switch but my son and daughter aren't all that interested in the new one. This is going to all come down to games for me. 3rd party support has been an issue for Nintendo for a long time now. So after a year or so I'll look at what we're seeing as far as 3rd party and see if it's better than switch 1. Now to be fair, I'm not a huge Nintendo franchise guy. Zelda is the only franchise I have an investment in. So that's been my main issue with the switch.

Try Metroid. My favorite franchise needs all the sales it can get :hilarious:

I have it on GameCube and Wii. I do love the 2d style from nes, snes, gba.... But the 3d versions were all very so so for me. The last Metroid we picked up was dread. I liked it more than prime but not nearly as much as fusion.

Prime’s my favorite part of the series as it was my introduction. I can’t wait to play 4 in 4K.

I can't remember if it will still have a switch 1 version when it releases but if it does, I will probably pick it up if reviews are solid. I'm a huge Metroidvania fan. So I'm a bit biased with the style of game. The GameCube Metroid is on my backlog list to replay since I never did finish it.
