Nintendo partnering with Universal to make attractions.

The Mario Kart attraction shows they've learnt nothing from the Fast N Furious attraction debacle.

Still would like to know who were the team behind these attractions. Comcast need to have a polite word and ensure they are removed from work on any future attractions, in my opinion. Worry is they may have their sweaty paws over Epic attractions - hopefully not.

To be fair, the Nintendo attractions were probably greenlit before F&F opened. This stuff has been in development for a while. I mean this thread is nearly 10 years old! Crazy. Buuut. There was also time to course-correct.

It was Comcast who wanted Fast & Furious: Supercharged. It was supposed to be their big thing th
at was to be built around the world based on their huge franchise. Thierry Coup’s comment at IAAPA in 2021 was that he wished he had stopped it, and he wasn’t exactly some low level functionary at the time.

Right. So then why did they continue to build attractions that give people a feeling of "bait and switch" when they don't deliver an experience the IP and concept suggests?

I'm sorry to tell you all this but I'm pretty sure Comcast sees all of Nintendo World as an outstanding success - especially Mario Kart. All they see is the $$$ that comes in from it.

And in the end, as theme park enthusiasts, this is what we should care about most - how much money the land makes for the shareholders and executives.

That has nothing to do with what I said though. I was responding to people like Donnie who insist that Nintendo World is some kind of big failure Comcast should be worried about. In the end, theme park enthusiasts look for different things in rides and lands than the General Public do, and I don't think most enthusiasts know what is best for what a theme park needs, they just want what is best for themselves.

Is it true that any Nintendo attraction has to debut in Japan first? This seems super restrictive as space is limited there. Zelda, Pokemon, Luigi's mansion- all rumored for Florida but is there space for so many rides in Japan even with the rumored expansion into parking spaces?

I know its a rendom dream but I wish Nintendo built their own Mushroom Kingdom park from the ground up. with different areas around the Castle. Zelda Land, Star Fox/Fzero Land, Pokemon Land, etc... Nintendo has enough IPS to round out an entire park easily

Universal is objectively hit-or-miss with attractions. Hagrid’s and Velocicoaster are awesome, while they also have stinkers like F&F and Minion Blast.

I’m more excited about walking around Nintendo land than I am to ride Mario Kart. I wish they had developed a more exciting attraction.

Imagine one that moved quickly and included a drop off the edge of the track after being banana’d, only to be fished back on, grab a triple mushroom and zoom to first place at the last moment. So many possibilities.

Just having an IP doesn’t meaning you have enough substance to carry multiple themed experiences, a lesson too often learned the hard way.

Not true. Nintendo's natural homeland is in Japan, and even the most hardcore fan have been lukewarm about the attractions (albeit praise for the theming of the land). I've watched youtube videos of these guys, and whilst polite you can tell they have not been blown away.

For the US it may well be a different matter. Whilst no doubt the IP is huge, it's still not exempt from any fall off once the initial excitement wears off. Remember Potter lands enticed repeat visitors for a good strong decade before calming down.

Do you remember California Adventure ? How could a Disney park go wrong ... well it did, till they 'fixed it' at great cost. I can't wait for Epic Universe, but judging by the dross served up at Nintendo Land i have my reservations.

No, that isn't true. Super Nintendo World was originally designed for kidzone and was going to open at USF first. They even had started putting walls up in kidzone then they decided to build Epic and took the walls down and put it there instead.

Japan was always going to be first but USF KidZone would’ve opened before Hollywood. This fact was mentioned in the initial announcement.

Yes you are partially correct, the USJ nintendo wasnt announced in the original announcement but shortly after. I got my timeline mixed up with when the walls in kidzone first went up, the correct timeline is:

2015 - Nintendo Partnership Announced
2016 - Nintendo announced for USJ
June 2017 - Construction begins at USJ
July 2017 - Walls go up in kidzone at USF
Shortly After - Walls come down in kidzone

We would have got Donkey Kong first though I believe (would've still opened with the land) if they went with the original kidzone location. Though I suppose there is always a chance they could've made Donkey Kong phase 2 also here.
