Nintendo partnering with Universal to make attractions.

I'm not sure which island it could fit in, but whatever they do with it, it better be a ride, and not one of those flying theater shows like Shrek, Terminator, Despicable me etc. I've had enough of those and I don't understand why people keep riding them- it makes UOR execs believe the public wants more of them. they suck IMO, they need more thrill rides or at least some that actually move around. I don't need to wait in line for those shows when I could watch it on youtube for the same experience. I really hope they stay away from that type of system for everything Nintendo. I'd love to see some AA's that look like Mario, Luigi, and Bowser
Only Jimmy Fallon will be like those three attractions.
Completely agree. As far as where it could fit, I was thinking the currently vacant toon lagoon amphitheater.
That's exactly where it's supposedly going.

I'm really excited to go back there when this stuff is done. It's gonna be a great vacation come 2020-21. I mean it already is but even more so then with all the additions.
With Fallon, Volcano Bay, the 2 new Cabana Bay towers, F&F, SLoP, Nintendoland, and the 600 room upscale resort coming they are really trying to push the resort into the next level vacation.

Not to mention the WnW land and that 474 acres they bought next to the Orange County Convention Center.

No one knew the Pokemon app would do so well and who knows if it has any staying power. There is no way there are any plans for Pokemon in the parks right now so including Pokemon will take many years if at all. Also what would you do for an attraction? It's a fighting game. I can't think of any way to translate Pokemon into a good attraction? You could always take any attraction, throw some Pokemon characters into and bam there you go but that wouldn't make it good.

A couple of ideas:
1) Collect them Pokemon Go style, just much more immersive. You know, gotta catch them all :)
2) Actual duel attraction, either against fellow rider(s) or AI. Could give you randomized experiences, perhaps based on chosen pokemon(s) or opponents.

That's not a bad idea but you would need to interact with them.

Pokemon is far from just a fighting franchise. Yes, the main games and the anime make extensive use of battling- but that's because it's insanely easy to make a story with the goal of winning through battle.

But Pokemon are expressly define again and again by various media to not just be tools of battle. They're pets, friends, companions, transportation, and helpers. They can compete in contests based on their looks and talents. They can put on stage shows. And of course, they can easily just be wild animals.

A Pokemon attraction could keep the main ideals of Pokemon without incorporating any input from the visitors at all- populate a ride with animatronic Pokemon, really. Imagine a wild ride through an ancient volcano, as Fire, Ground, and Rock type Pokemon go about their lives- only to narrowly escape danger from an awakened Groudon, making the volcano erupt. Imagine a submarine ride through an ecosystem of water Pokemon. A safari through a jungle or savannah. Soaring through the sky on the back of a dragon or other flying Pokemon to see the major sites of the Pokemon world. Maybe an animatronic stage show with Pokemon and their trainers putting on some kind of contest or show of skill.

Like, heck, as I think has been mentioned before, there's been temporary Pokemon theme parks throughout Japan (even for a few months in the US iirc) with various Pokemon themed rides. None of them super amazing by Universal or Disney standards- but you could take them and plus them with a little ingenuity.

Put all this together in one and you have my idea of what a Pokemon Safari ride would be. The ride vehicle would be something that can go anywhere, even underwater (but not fly). It would be Universal's first 10-15 minute ride. AA Pokemon would populate the foreground of the elaborate sets while giant immersive Shanghai Pirates style screens are in the background. Why are they there? Because they are randomized and show different Pokemon each time you ride.

Yea, I was kind of surprised to see some over on OU feeling that Pokemon would be one of the harder franchises to create attractions out of, since I have the opposite opinion :p

In my mind, Pokemon would be one of the easier franchises. Between the games and anime I feel there is plenty of content to work with.

I think if there were difficulties in bringing a Pokemon Land to life it would be:

1. *Getting permission to use the IP, and once Nintendo Land turns out to be a great success that everyone is assuming will be, I don't think there will be many hurdles preventing this

*Does anyone know if the Pokemon rights were included with the deal Uni made with Nintendo?

2. Which Pokemon to include - Obviously with over 700+ Pokemon there would be no way to include them all. I think a focus on 1st gen is the best bet and then maybe include some of the most popular ones of other gens. Gen 2 is personally my favorite, but focusing on 1st gen would be best since that is the one the most people are familiar with and have a ton of nostalgia for.

3. Somewhat an extension to 1 and 2, agreeing to the same vision. For example, the latest Pokemon movie, there were rumors there was talks for one and it was finally announced the other day as being something I don't think anyone expected it to be, Detective Pikachu. I don't think this would be an issue, but you never know, could always be a wrench thrown in and one side being adamant that they want it being represented one way and the other feeling it should be represented another.

As far as creating attraction though, I don't think it would be too difficult. Need a story/plot? Well Pokemon has people, such as Team Rocket among others, who are your villains. So there are always villains who are looking to do bad and shady things that can be used to add story or spice up the ride experience. Pokemon also has diverse environments. From water environments to more arid environments. Can have a ride based on a Safari, can have another ride based on a Pokemon Lab (think of that old discovery center dark ride rumor for Jurassic Park), or a Power Plant, even a more haunted area that features ghost Pokemon (some locations like that exist in the game). Basically, whatever you can think of

Haha awesome idea. But you know that already exists with the safari @ DAK its crazy how many gyms/poke stops are out on that ride including the amount of pokemon that spawn during your ride. Last time I went on it, kids/adults were yelling for the driver to stop so they could catch pokemon. The driver was like "ABSOLUTELY NOT!" Haha

I would totally ride this. The ending would be a sing-a-long of the Pokemon intro song!

How cool would it be if Universal could get exclusive pokemons spawning only inside a certain area?

The more I think about this, the more it sounds like you could easily make a whole Pokémon Land, not just a single ride. And it would be awesome, even for people who are not necessarily Pokémon fans.
