They demanded "Family Friendly" and actual gaming style interactivity. Even the Donkey Kong coaster will be closer to 7DMT than say Hagrid's.

Oddly enough, when they first announced Hagrid's they called it family friendly but after they rode it they dropped that particular phrase from the marketing materials.
I mean... it's not that bad. Everest & Space Mountain are more intense, and those are both classified as family coasters by most people. For Donkey Kong, I'm just hoping it's more of a dark ride hybrid than a straightforward coaster experience. It doesn't need a lot of thrills if it's engaging in other ways, and Orlando will have more than enough basic coasters by the time it opens.

I am really not sure what to think, it’s definitely not nearly as bad as I thought. It still drives me crazy how slow this is and how obvious the ride system should be. The AR looks a little janky as well. I don’t hate it but am extremely let down. The queue is cool, it is nice to see their are SOME physical sets.

EDIT: Oh, and the shell spam annoys me to no end.

It kind of will be. It will have AA's and at least 1 show scene. The area around the coaster will also be well themed.

That’s worse than I expected. I knew it was going to be slow but that is a crawl. The augemented imagery is just all over the place, doesn’t line up well (which could be a video issue) and not at least accounting for the front row’s headrest is ridiculous.

It looks really fun to me, which is the goal for a video game. I can't wait to try it for myself.

Also, AR in that setting is incredibly difficult from both an optical and operation point of view. The tracking alone is a pain to get right, those headsets don't have the fancy bells and whistles of a Hololens or Magic Leap in regards to inside out sensors. The design, formfactor, and features of that headset working on a moving vehicle for people with with varying IPDs is a marvel in and of itself.

I did... That’s my main complaint about this attraction. It’s not horrible, though it almost comes off as an attraction you might see at Motiongate Dubai in certain places within the attraction, thought the AR will probably look ten times better in person, so that should help.
It should have some more dimension to it. When viewing through just one lens, as the camera is, you don’t get the advantage of stereoscopic vision.

I knew AR on a headset would be impossible to pull off and make it look great with today’s technology. They did a slightly better job on the AR than I expected, but that’s not saying too much (my expectations were in the toilet). Maybe in the future they’ll update it when AR is good enough for theme park rides. At this point though, adopting AR headsets in this space is premature imo.

Why is a Mario Kart ride going the speed of Pinocchio's Daring Journey? Ive said many times and I'll say it again, modern imagineers continue to prioritize tech to overall ride experience and fun. Massively disappointed. Something like this makes me appreciate ROTR a whole lot more even though I'm not crazy about it either.

It is basically the MiB ride system. It moves constantly at at same speed. The first scenes are supposedly more practical, at least in the settings. The ground breaking aspect is the Interactive AR.

Is it like TSMM, I mean, yeah it's a shooter ride. Just like MiB is a shooter ride. But after riding it I don't think anyone will compare it to either.

What you are seeing in that video is about one min. of a state of the art ride shot with a camera phone stuck up inside a VR helmet showing one of the two lenses.

And everyone saying that creating an interactive video game ride based on a video game wasn't what they were expecting? What were you expecting? We have known for years that this was gonna be an AR shooter. The question for the past 2 years wasn't "What is it?" but "Will they get it to work?"

It sounds like it will be a more intense version of Midway Mania. The VR helmets can make the whole ride seem faster and bring
out the aspects people enjoy with the video games.
