If you want to believe that management of the parks does things that cost money simply for more umph then by all means go ahead, you can also believe in the tooth fairy. I will simply embrace reality, and that is that management of any Disney park will only spend resources based on a economic analysis that showed them that the money spent would result in more revenue - and more revenue is a result of higher attendance.

If you want to think WDW is cool and superior for not participating in overlays, by all means, please do so.

If you think about it, it's actually not cool, but upsetting. You're basically saying WDW is cool for not having to come up with special offerings for its guests because people will come anyway. How does that count as a good thing? That sucks. That's pretty much what's going on for this Limited Time Magic promotion. Florida isn't putting any real thought and creativity into their events, and they've been beyond lackluster (Bling in the New Year was pathetic). The repeating guests want something nice to experience, like the Golden Horseshoe Revue. Put some thought into it! Dancing in a boring conga line with Chip and Dale, with a DJ playing the same song and refusing to switch it is LAME and PATHETIC! But, like you said, Florida management doesn't need to do special things and put some thought into their offerings... Everyone will come anyway.

Being a shareholder in Disney I'm thrilled they don't have to do overlays to bring in customers. It would be nice if they didn't have to do it at any of the parks, but the reality is that DL isn't good enough to draw in enough once in a lifetime customers on its own merits. DL must rely on locals and a large portion of those locals would not come as often if they didn't do the cheesy overlays.

Disneyland Resort's local area is massive and stretches into another country. The split between locals and non-locals is also getting quite close to Walt Disney World's split. Oh, and Walt Disney World does do seasonal offerings. And as a shareholder who should be concerned that profit amongst Parks and Resorts is being accomplished far more by the Disneyland Resort and Disney Cruise Line than Walt Disney World.

I'am a very big Nightmare Before Christmas fan. But never had the chance or the money to go to Disneyland. To see the Nightmare Before Christmas themed Haunted Mansion. What are the chances them bringing it to Magic Kingdom.

I don't know about changing the theme of the mansion, but they do sell the merchandise. This was a few years ago and I don't know if they still sell them, but my son bought all kinds of neat Nightmare stuff from the gift shop.

The two year closure and track replacement was scheduled because it was known that the track would fail. The closure ended up happening early because the predicted time frame was too optimistic and the attraction was no longer safe to operate.
In Orlando? No track replacement, no new substructure, no new cars, no on board audio, no launch tunnel update, no lift hill show scene refurb, no silent lifts, no digital projections, no new re entry tunnel, no exterior lighting package.

All planned but then authorised to be omitted by VP of the MK Phil Holmes.

I was expanding on your earlier comment that @raven24 asked about.

No. Space Mountain in DL absolutely closed with literally hours notice due to grave health and safety issues.

I will say that I agree with whoever said go to Tokyo to see it, as that would be the best approximation of what it would look like at WDW, considering their mansion is a clone of WDW's and their overlay was designed for Magic Kingdom.

Maybe I just want to go to Tokyo Disneyland :p

Would love to know your source for the breakdown in locals/non-locals and profits between parks. I've read the 10K and in recent times I've never seen a breakdown between parks on anything, only a domestic vs international.

This comes up about as much as people thinking Horizons is making a comeback...

I wouldn't mind experiencing the change once... But I do think it's slightly tacky. Maybe if the movie had it's own dark ride, that'd be very interesting.

I'm just now seeing your response!

That really sucks about SM. Then again, I'm not surprised.
