Nightmare Before Christmas themed Haunted Mansion for Magic Kingdom

Disneyland tends to have more "local" visitors going there, whereas WDW tends to have people from all over the world who go only once or twice in their lives. Therefore, DL can afford to close down one of the major attractions and it won't upset as many guests as it would WDW. People who be disappointed if they found out that HM was going down for a couple of weeks to put up temporary decorations. Same with taking them down. Plus, WDW already has a huge draw around the holidays so they don't need to enhance a ride anymore. Not that DL doesn't have a draw around the holidays.

Yeah I guess so look like I need to start saving my pennies lol

I didn't know about overlays in 2005 when I went to Disneyland for my once in a lifetime visit. One of the top things on my bucket list was to see the original Haunted Mansion. What did I get instead...the overlay. In my humble opinion it sucked. It looked cheap and more like a carnival fun house then the sophisticated HM.

My advise, don't make a trip to see it and even though it can be argued that WDW makes many incorrect decisions concerning the attractions...this isn't one of them. Stay away! See we don't always want clones.:p

OP, if you want to experience Haunted Mansion Holiday, do it. Don't listen to the ones encouraging you not to, especially since they can see you really want to. Does this look cheap and tacky? Looks like I'm going to have to school you on Halloween at Disneyland.:)

The Disneyland bakery designs and bakes a real gingerbread house each year for the ride. Each gingerbread house is different. Here is last year's. Zero flew around the top, and a ghost train choo-chooed around it, at the bottom:

Since you're a Nightmare fan, you'd have a great time at DL during Halloween. Jack Skellington is the narrator in the Halloween fireworks, with Zero flying around the castle, and he and Sally do meet and greets inside the park. The Nightmare Before Christmas plays a big part in Disneyland during Halloween. Not to mention Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy, which is really cool.

Always great to grab one of these beauties in the park:

Perfect for you, @muggle148. I just scratched the surface. I could go on, but I think you get the idea. If you want to visit, save up some money and book a flight and don't let others discourage you.

And this was for the two year closure?

My point still stands, anyway. The ride was down for two whole years. If Space can be down for two years, arguably the most popular Disney Parks ride, another attraction can close for a few weeks. A few weeks aren't that big of a deal.
It was. 2003-2005.

Management in California sees things far differently than that in Florida. Hence it won't happen in Orlando. Few weeks or not.

Oh boy, do you have it wrong. If DL stopped doing the Mansion overlay, attendance wouldn't suddenly and dramatically drop. It's not something they've had to resort to. The overlays are there for the holidays and for something different. If I'm correct, WDW is the only Disney resort that doesn't participate in ride overlays.

The whole point of the overlay is to pull in more locals, without them attendance would drop. Disneys doesn't do it for nothing it is driven by profit. The fact that WDW is the only one not doing it shows how strong they are as a draw on their own.

The point of the overlays is to give the parks more umph during the holidays. Yes, we locals appreciate the overlays, but we'd still visit the parks, with or without the overlays. Attendance is guaranteed to pick up during the holidays, just because it's the holidays.

I don't think it shows that. I think it shows that Florida management simply couldn't care less about overlays. Yep.

Walt Disney World is the only Disney resort that doesn't sell a majority of it's tickets to local visitors. Disneyland, Tokyo, Paris, Hong Kong, and eventually Shanghai will do most of their business from people that are far closer to the parks than Disney World ever will. Disney World is a vacation destination for people around the country (and the world) so while I disagree with their hesitance, that's what it is rooted in.

I'm aware of this.

I like the idea of a HM Christmas overlay. I like the Nightmare Before Christmas.

However, I don't want Nightmare Before Christmas at the Haunted Mansion. I want to have a REAL HM Holiday.
I totally agree. I love NBC and love HM but I really dont want the mixture.

I am a huge fan of NBC but I have no desire to see Jack take over at the Haunted Mansion. Both are very different entities for me and to mix them would be to ruin them. I wouldn't like to ride through the mansion and not be reminded to bring my death certificate when I hurry back. Give Jack his own ride.

What about Ghost Galaxy? All that takes is some re-programming. That's a two-three day closure.
Given the mess of the last refurb its clear what management think of Space Mountain. Plus there is a corporate culture of the guest will pay anyway no matter what.

Aside from that, WDWs SM doesn't have the infrastructure for Ghost Galaxy. Sadly.

If you want to believe that management of the parks does things that cost money simply for more umph then by all means go ahead, you can also believe in the tooth fairy. I will simply embrace reality, and that is that management of any Disney park will only spend resources based on a economic analysis that showed them that the money spent would result in more revenue - and more revenue is a result of higher attendance.

Magic Kingdom was supposed to get it in the first year it was at Disneyland (2001) but then they decided not to and the plans went to Disneyland Tokyo. I seriously doubt it that it would come. Personally, I would really like it, but fans who come during the renovation won't be able to experience the Haunted Mansion. The Haunted Mansion is too good to be missed, in my opinion.

Personally with Haunted Mansion being one of my favorite rides in the way it is designed I would not be interested in a Nightmare Before Christmas overlay. It would take too much away from the whole Hauntedness of the mansion and cartoonify it too much for me. For some rides that is fine but it should not be done in attractions such as the haunted mansion, pirates, space mountain, etc.

I'm still confused as to what happened during the last Space Mountain refurb. Or what didn't happen, I should say. What didn't happen?

The two year closure and track replacement was scheduled because it was known that the track would fail. The closure ended up happening early because the predicted time frame was too optimistic and the attraction was no longer safe to operate.
