Wow! The NHL sure did make things complicated. Today the Flyers play the Capitals....tomorrow they play the Lightning. This is all just for seeding? Hypothetically if the Flyers lost tonight and tomorrow...they would not be eliminated? They'd just be seeded at or near the bottom?So the top 4 teams in each division are in a round robin for seeding. So in the East, Boston, Tampa, Philly, and Washinton will all play each other once to determine seeding (as an aside, I am a bit confused on seeding. I've heard that you add those points to their current point totals for seeding, which would mean Boston has already secured the top seed in the East. I've heard elsewhere this is strictly best record in the round robin). Teams 5-12 then are in a play-in best of 5 tourney. Reseeding happens each round. SOOOOO, basically Boston and Philly are simply playing for seeding in the next round, so they only play each other once. The Rangers were trying to make it through to the next round, so they are eliminated.
