I was excited for Giants football but after this preseason I'm not so sure..
The first team offense has been atrocious, Eli Manning looks clueless, and I'm now genuinely worried. Defense looks fine but the offense is the opposite

Roger Goodell has apologized for his decision to ban Ray Rice for only two games. He is placing a new rule where violations of the Personal Conduct Policy regarding assault, battery, domestic violence, or sexual assault that involve physical force "will be subject to a suspension without pay of six games for a first offense." A second offense will result in the player or personnel being banned from the NFL for at least one year. After one year, the player or personnel can apply to be reinstated into the NFL, but reinstatement is not granted.

5-0 in the preseason. Do the Giants win a mini Lombardi trophy courtesy of Tim Cowlishaw?

It's the new year, but the same old problems. If the Giants offense doesn't get their you know what together, I fear Suh and Ansah will both get a 5 sack game on Monday Night. That Odell Beckham pick and passing over Zach Martin really hurts right now. I don't get the offensive line sometimes. It's almost if they're too scared to do their job. Where's the Michael Oher mentality of protecting Eli like family? I certainly don't see it. And if Eli can't run the offense, it may be time to throw Nassib in the fire because if Eli truly is a round peg that can't fit into a square hole that is Ben McAdoo's offense, stop jamming it and find another round peg.

Personally I believe Eli's career is starting to go Matt Hasselbeck-like. It was good while it lasted, but sometimes you need to revert to a backup role. I don't know if he's there yet, but he's getting there. I don't think Eli will be willing to be a backup, though.

There is a reason why NFL GMs and coaches panic whenever players turn 30, especially running backs. The body slows down in many ways with decreased flexibility, decreased stamina and loss of muscle mass to name a few. Eli is in mid 30s and he'll be 34 come January 2015 and with this new offense, it is asking a lot to change your style of play in your mid 30s. If Eli can't run the offense, why force it on him?

There's a reason why it's a young man's game. That's why draft-and-develop is so crucial. It's impossible to predict who will hit the wall and when.

You shouldn't have to force it on him. He is a big boy playing in a professional league. If he doesn't want to adapt then I don't feel sorry for him. He should try to emulate his brother, who has shown that a person's love of the game can fuel the transformation needed to stay viable in this league.

Coaches build a plan around their ideals, their players strengths and weaknesses
Players execute the plan

If you just did what Eli was 'comfortable' with you might as well give up the coach...

A coach can't plan without considering his players, but if you only coach to your players, the coach isn't going to be worth much, and you're going to be easily beat as everyone knows what you are going to do.

Just discovered this thread. I'm a Browns fan living in Ravens country, so that makes football season doubly depressing. I'm cracking up at all of the Johnny Football talk on here, the hype over him is insane to me. Personally, I'm thrilled that he's not starting. The only good thing that came from him getting drafted is that NFL Network actually showed 3 of our preseason games live. :)

Is it really a good thing if it's NFL Network that's showing them? ;)

The Seahawks have released QB Terrelle Pryor. I imagine he'll be scooped up rather quickly.

Aldon Smith has been suspended for the first 9 games of the season. I'm kind of wondering how the 49ers will fare this season. With Smith and Navarro Bowman out, it'll be interesting to see how their defense compares to years prior. There are also question marks on offense, as they didn't look sharp at all in the preseason. Room for concern, yes. But I still think they'll make the playoffs. Maybe just not as the power house they've been the past few years.

And here's another post from me! Kyle Orton will play for Buffalo this year and will back up EJ Manuel.

I just finished up my spreadsheet for my fantasy draft tonight. I planned for a 10 person league, only to find that it became a 12 person league last night... This is going to be a long season.

A couple of headlines today:

- Michael Sam has been cut from the Rams final 53.

- Champ Bailey has been cut from the Saints final 53.
