In kicker news, the Bills sign Dan Carpenter.

And for the Browns situation, it will be a kicking battle between Billy Cundiff and Giorgia Tavecchio. Tavecchio was actually battling Packers kicker Mason Crosby, but ultimately lost. He didn't show he could be a trustworthy kicker in this league from what I witnessed.

Brian Urlacher has outed his former team. He told reporters that part of the Bears' plan to slow down up tempo offenses was to fake injuries. He said an assistant on the sideline would make the gesture of a swimmer diving, and that's when a certain designated player would fake an injury. This is of course against the rules.

They are playing the wrong football if they want to pull that kind of stuff.

I wonder if the new coaching staff has eliminated that. It definitely shouldn't be happening at any level. That's just low, IMO, for any sport.

Here are my predictions (I actually keep a record of what I predict and see what the total is at the end of the year. I always come out ahead, and the past three years I haven't varied in my predictions by more than one guess.) Bold teams are my winners.

BAL @ DEN
NE
@ BUF
TEN @ PIT
ATL @ NO
TB @ NYJ
KC @ JAC
SEA @ CAR
CIN @ CHI
MIA @ CLE
MIN @ DET
OAK @ IND
GB @ SF
ARI @ STL
NYG @ DAL
PHI @ WAS
HOU @ SD

The toughest one was Eagles @ Redskins. I don't think RGIII will be 100%, but I can't go with the Eagles due to their defense. That and the Redskins have a solid running game.

This gave me a good laugh, especially with his facial expressions.

EJ Manuel is the starter for Buffalo against New England. Knowing the Pats defense, Manuel should put some good numbers but you never know with rookie jitters. I think the only way Buffalo wins if Tom Brady messes up like the 4 pick game when Buffalo snapped the 15 game losing streak against the Pats back in 2011. Anyway, I don't do regular pick em in a competitive way but I'll chime in with mine.

Broncos over Ravens
Saints over Falcons
Patriots over Bills
Bengals over Bears
Dolphins over Browns
Vikings over Lions
Steelers over Titans
Colts over Raiders
Chiefs over Jaguars
Bucs overJets
Seahawks over Panthers
49ers over Packers
Rams over Cardinals
Giants over Cowboys
Redskins over Eagles
Texans over Chargers

I seem to be the only one who likes the Packers over the 49ers, and yes, there is a bias in my pick. I've never not chosen the Packers to win. Gotta have a winning mentality! :D

Wouldn't the media and fans go crazy if the 49ers lost?? That would be fantastic.

Sorry PUSH, I'll be cheering for the 49ers. Not because I have anything against the Packers, but the niners are right behind the Ravens as far as favorite teams go

Well, considering how Kaepernick completely shredded the defense of the Packers the last time, I'm not sold that Green Bay's defense can contain him. Rodgers should do fine against San Francisco's defense though. Speaking of which, I do think Dom Capers is on the hot seat this year considering how many yards they've given up in the big playoff games. On a side note, I also think Fewell is also on the hot seat. I'm not going to use winning the Super Bowl as an excuse to keep him because overall, the defense regressed so much after Spagnuolo left.

I know where people are coming from, but it seems like nobody sees how different the Packers are (on both sides of the ball). I honestly believe the Packers can be an elite defense with who they have now. If not, then the preparation isn't where it needs to be. Maybe not an elite performance this week, but I think they've improved from last year.

And I have to disagree with Capers being on the hot seat. He is a great defensive coordinator and his schemes and plays can confuse any offense. We just haven't had the type of players to beat a running team, now I believe we do. And getting Nick Perry (last year's 1st round pick) back from injury this season should be a huge help. He's athletic, and that's exactly what you need to stop the read-option.

I guess overall I'm saying I'm hopeful for this defense. But Sunday is the big test, it should be a good game no matter who wins.

Probably a stupid question, but why is Denver hosting the opening game of the season? I always thought the reigning Super Bowl champions open the next season, meaning it should be in Baltimore. At least that's what I've gathered in the past. Am I missing something?

Because the Ravens and Orioles share a parking lot, and the Orioles already had a game scheduled for tonight, forcing them to play on the road. But yes, typically the SB Champs host the season opener.

I for one am taking Packers.....For tonight's game I will preface my statement for the sake of full disclosure....I live outside Baltimore and am a huge Ravens fan. That said I think the game is a pick'em....why? Denver will be without Dumervile....Von Miller and Champ Bailey. Where is the pass rush going to come from? Does that matter? No, Ravens best chance to win is going to be establishing the running game. Their receivers are suspect...their game plan must be to establish the run and keep Manning off the field. If successful it will open up a passing opportunities later in the game.. What about Baltimores secondary? That could be an issue. I don't see Manning throwing many long passes. The Ravens have absolutely the best one, two punch in rush ends in Dumerville and Suggs. Don't forget Dumerville although now a Raven is still po'd about how things ended in Denver. He will want to remind them how dumb they really were. He also played the tackles everyday in practice. In the end....Manning is Manning for a reason. I would give him a slight edge and the fact that they are playing in Denver. Home team always has a huge advantage. I still think 7 1/2 points is absurd as a spread. The way to get Manning to make mistakes is to make him move. Don't let him get comfortable or he will slice and dice you like a Thanksgiving turkey. The Ravens have an answer to that. My gut says Manning makes a game winning drive in the end....my heart says....the Ravens will continue to be the Ravens...they will bend but not break. Note: Watch the new MLB for the Ravens ( Smith) he will surprise most of you. Is he better then Ray lewis in his prime? Hell No! Is he better then Ray Lewis last year? By a mile!
