Next new hotel

I'd like to see a Tower of Terror/Haunted Mansion hotel built with rooms overlooking the Disney Hollywood Studios park.

I don't suppose there's any land available for such a venture though. Pity.

Every time I try to go upstairs at the Hollywood Tower Hotel, the elevator malfunctions!

:ROFLOL:

If Disney built the hotel I'm thinking of, they could include an Adventurer's Club restaurant and bar as their signature dining establishment, and make everybody happy.

The hallways and rooms could sport decor including distorted mirrors, the hitchhiking ghosts, and other Disney ghoulies.

The cartoon loop playing in the rooms and in the lobby for kids during check in could include the Skeleton Dance Merry Melody along with other "spooky" Disney cartoons. There are plenty of them out there.

But I can just imagine the hundreds of unknowing tourists who would check into the hotel and be creeped out by the skeletal hotel staff.

Anyway, that's what I'd like to see, since you asked . . . all those years ago!

This thread was started in 2001.
It's interesting at this point to take note of what has actually been built since then.

And also notice that the other half of Pop Century is still sitting there festering in the sun, attracting snakes and lizards, deteriorating more and more each year, being very un-Disney in appearance, and generally indicating that the investment trend for WDW is toward DVC and Deluxe resorts where the return on the money spent is much greater.

IMHO

I second the thought about the HTH... I've always said that's what I wanted them to do. As far as the SW theme, I think that Coronado Springs is pretty close, being from Albuquerque, it was like we never left...

Well, since this is the thread that will not die, I think it'd be great to take the theming of the Values to the next outrageous level: ToonTown Tower, a resort that celebrates all manner of animation, and so over-the-top in its theming, it makes Pop Century looks like a seminary. Fill it with extra restaurants, maybe even dinner show venues ala HDDR. Pretend that it's where the characters live, affording children/families more opportunities to meet characters outside of the parks. Make rooms look as cartoonich as possible, and have various sound and visual effects triggered by motion throughout the resort - in gift shops, in elevators, in the bathrooms (Gawrsh, got a square to spare in the stall over there?) :lookaroun

Ha! That's awesome! :ROFLOL:

A concept like that (extra restaurants, character interaction) would be deluxe and/or DVC. No way the bean counters would give those perks to the Motel 6 crowd.

How about one with something to do with Space? A lot of ideas could come from this....

I think another moderate resort, or even finishing pop as a value option. With the economy going the way it is i dont think a another delux or dvc will be affordable to the average family.

I was thinking more about the over-the-top theming of the Values, than the price range for guests. I'd assume that any resort that involved in an immersive experience wouldn't be cheap, too. :D

True, All Stars stairwells and Pop everything are way out there, but so were the hallways and decor at the Dolphin when it opened! :ROFLOL:

I wouldn't hold my breath for ANYTHING new in hotels or DVC for at least two years (if then). This economic thing is going to take years to work it's way through. I would be shocked if Disney is able to sell anything at the Contemp. DVC, let alone the rest of SS or AKL. Credit is locked down. Unless you have cash, plus stellar credit - no one's going to qualify for a loan to buy anything. We are in a whole new world now, folks.

Most businesses, like Disney, use a 5-year or 10-year plan, or longer, for real estate investments.
They look at the long term risks and rewards.

It looks like the trend that they are going with is that they want the upscale market in guest accommodations.

IMHO
