Next generation FASTPASS system to begin guest testing this week

You're still able to ride then go get FP's? Whenever I try that they are gone before I get off of TSMM. If I wait in line for FP's then the standby line is unbelievable.

You have to be quick, or have someone get them for you while you ride :animwink:

So get the xPass for TSMM and TOT, then just go up to all of the other rides and swipe the card but don't go in. ;) If that's the way Disney wants to manage this xPass system then there are ways to still do what you want.

My thing is I'd want to be able to utilize this new system the same way I was able to hoard fastpasses and use them at the end of the day. It doesn't seem like it would be possible, but if I had to pay for this package, I wouldn't want to waste it on things I have no interest in doing. I'd want to reserve several rides on TSM, and maybe two for ToT. But I'm pretty sure the package would have me going to LMA, GMR, or Star Tours. I have no problem with seeing or doing any of those(except LMA, boring as hell now!) But I wouldn't have wasted a fastpass for star tours before the March policy change, and I wouldn't want to waste one with the fastpass+ especially when after a certain time it's usually a guaranteed walk on. But I can't expect anything to be the way they were, so until they build new rides and things worthy of a trek back down there then I won't go....as much.

I'm confident they'll let you pick from available times when it goes live. I sincerely predict the interface will match that of the ADR system in many ways. You'll select a day, then a park, then perhaps drill down even further by selecting a range of time and/or types of attractions. Then, you'll see a sampling of available times, and you get to click up to 4 (or whatever).

You get a confirmation, with a bar code, and you print it out and take it to WDW with you. Concierge will scan it and embed everything onto your Yellow FP+ card. And when they sync things up in 25 years, it'll just be on the chip in your neck.

All hail our new computer overlords!

I never said "You have to be quick, or have someone get them for you while you ride."

And as to you "hording FP's", Disney stopped that non-sense recently so it doesn't matter one way or the other. ;)

So what is to say you "have" to either reserve or use all the Fastpasses you get from the system?

If the system doesn't exactly let you pick everything you want, but you can get a couple free passes that you do... What is to keep you from using your free Fastpass+ for Splash and Space Mountain and forgetting about the Stich and Pan ones you were also issued? So long as all it does is pull from the available Fastpass inventory I don't see the issue. If it actually eliminates Fast Pass altogether, I would understand the concerns.

If I misunderstood I apologize.

I'm thinking of this fastpass+ as a regular fastpass. In that if there are fastpasses available for Pooh, I wouldn't get one if there was some available for Space mt still as that would take up a slot for a ride I really want to ride. I'm sure the + would be different, and if I could get several for space mt and other rides I want to do, then ya, there is no problem with a few extras. Just as long as I could still pick the amount and the 'freebies' weren't taking up any rides I'd want to go on.

I added that in there as my response to what you said earlier. And yes they did, but are replacing it with some foolishness that may not be as welcomed by most here once it's fully implemented.

Oh. Well it made it look like I said that.

Maybe, maybe not. If they are truly just testing it right now and they make it an à la carte style like the current ADR system then I'll be all over this. If they leave it as is.... not so much. :veryconfu

I guess we all have to wait and see until it's fully implemented, but you can usually tell by the clouds if it's gonna rain or not and how bad the storm might be.

The problem for me with this system is that sometimes lines aren't that bad asnd you may end up wasting a FP. Last year the DW and I repeatedly did ST over and over as a walk on. You never know what you may happen into that could be eliminated with over planning. So I hope we can still use the old FP system as well. I don't mind going back and forth at all as I can manage my riding in real time.

It works great for my family the way it is now. Grab a FP first thing in the AM, as soon as possible grab another. Do this all day long and in between riding the FP rides we hit everything that has a short line. We seldom wait more than 15 minutes for anything.

If this is what we can keep doing AND mix it in with pre scheduled FPS I am all for it. But I have a feeling this will not be the case because I don't know how Disney would manage that. For example: I get 4 FPs for 11:00, 1:00, 2:30 and 5:00. When would it allow me to get any other FPs?

Bad feeling that we will be stuck getting 4 FPs/day from their grouping system and be stuck on stabnd by the rest of the time. I think their theory is that SB will be less wait time if EVERYONE is using 4 FPs per day.

When we used the new system, we chose the morning option because we knew we were going to be at Magic Kingdom that morning. The first FP was for Haunted Mansion at I think 10:05. Of course there wasn't a line there and we were the first fastpassers that day. We merged into line with everyone else so it sort of felt like a wasted fastpass. Our next FP was at Space Mountain and I think we probably saved two minutes by not waiting in the line.

I think the new system will be beneficial to people that are there later in the day or busier times when lines are longer.

Just got back and we used the new system as well. I thought it was great and I would definitely use it in the future. I will use it for the headliners as I think that would be beneficial. One thing I think this will do is you will have people get a FP 6 months in advance and not show up for their time. Im thinking of TSMM where something like this is beneficial. The less FP they hand out to in park guests and the less people that show up for their scheduled time will just make the standby line move faster. This is something I already noticed with them just enforcing the return times. The line at TSMM was moving quicker, it was still long, but it was moving faster than it used to. I don't really see any downside to this program. You either stand in standby and thus aren't affected regardless, or get FP's while you are in the park or you book a bunch from home, and if you aren't able to use them at the desired time, then oh well, you weren't going to be around that area anyways. Again, the more wasted FP, the quicker the standby line moves.

I think we'll get a better sense of how and if the system works this summer when the crowds are much heavier. With only testing a few guests its really hard to gauge how affective the new system will be from a fans perspecitve.

I'll bump this one back up for the sake of posting the questions asked in my pre-trip survey.

Today, I received an email from Walt Disney Parks & Resorts Research asking for my opinions about the Fastpass Test. Here are the pertinent questions asked:

Did you use all 4 of the Test Fastpass tickets your group was given?

How satisfied were you with the order in which your 4 Test Fastpass tickets were scheduled?

How did the order of your Test Fastpass tickets impact your experience, if at all?
  • Allowed us to move through the park without any backtracking
  • Made us feel rushed to get to our next Fastpass attraction
  • Confined us to a certain part of the park for longer than we wanted
  • Made our day hassle-free

How did you access your Fastpass Confirmation throughout the day?

Did you or anyone in your traveling group bring a smartphone or some other Internet-enabled device into the Magic Kingdom on Thursday, May 10?

Had you ever used Disney's Fastpass Service before your visit to the Magic Kingdom on May 10?
