Next generation FASTPASS system to begin guest testing this week

I'm wondering how baby swap will fit in with the pass, will we have the opportunity to schedule those ahead of time and how easy will it be to add on in case of a last minute need for the "chicken" exit.

Actually, the baby swap option is built into the system. If a CM needs to let someone in due to that, there is a specific button for it.

My understanding, unless it has changed, is the FP+ is avialable only to people staying on property. It affects the availability of FPs for day guests.
The degree to which it affects these guests depends, of course, on crowd levels.

It's practically nothing. Only a few thousand over the entire two weeks are testing this. In Disney terms, that is practically nothing. That's like four people coming to Space with xPass every two hours, and only if everyone in the test that day chooses Space.

And to everyone who still hasn't realized the purpose of all this: it's enabling guests to ride more rides. Disney has a calculated number of rides per day that basically = happiness + spending $ on merch + coming back for another trip. The average guest only gets 1 fastpass a day, but with this new system, now Disney is giving them 4 fastpasses. With four fastpasses instead of one, guests will now be able to enjoy more rides without spending so much of their day in line, which makes them happier, and also frees them up to buy food and merch.

Although yeah, myself and also the guests don't like that you have to pick a day and time in advance. I think the system would work better if most people got their passes on the same day they get to MK, or the day before.

Depends on the location. Different attractions are testing different methods. Space Mountain still uses Rider Switch passes.

I'm only talking about on the iPads/handheld devices for xPass. If you let someone in without a valid xPass, the device asks why, and child swap is a selectable option. My attractions with xPass don't offer child swap, but it's still an option on our iPads, so I'm assuming they're testing that at the attractions that do offer child swap.

Here's a question I just thought of: Will Swan and Dolphin guests be able to use the new ride reservation system?

Not in the test. Neither will Shades of Green or the Downtown Disney hotels. It all has to do with how the testers are selected. It's not specifically staying on property that gets you selected. I said a few pages back that even if you're staying at a Disney resort, there's something more you need to be eligible. I can't say what, though.

If xPass replaces fastpass though, everyone will be able to utilize it. It will just be the new, electronic fastpass system, and will be free and available to everyone.

Could they be adding these fastpasses to everything and then guests can select however many fastpasses of this category and however many of this category. So people can get on slower rides a little faster but they get more fastpasses for those than E ticket attractions. Just one of the things I thought when I saw the haunted mansion.

Didnt read this thread on my phonee, so forgive me if anything is a repeat...

Wife and i just arrived and are on DME now. We made sure they got us before the queue, so we are official recipients of the next gen fastpass. We each got a yellow card that just says fastpass.

They got my email, and i will get instructions and my reservation times shortly.

Theyre only doing MK. They asked which day we'd be at the MK, so we picked thursday. We got to pick two attractions froj each side of a card they had.from one side we picked splash and pan. From the other we picked jungle and buzz.

The computer randomly picked times, but they did ask if we preferrred all morning, all afternoon, or spread out. First pass had a conflict with our ohana res for thursday, so she pulled that one back earlier.

So come thurseay, I'll report back on how it goes.

This idea is okay but not to crazy about it. First off I think eveyrone is getting too hooked on technology, I know its so great to have everything come to your phone, but what about people with no data base phones? also i dont know about you but we have a rule at disney. NO CELL PHONES! i am not paying a bunch of money to watch my other half on his phone, its a time to be together. just my opinion.

It has been mentioned several times in this thread that a cell phone is not required to use the system. Either guest services or the X-Pass machines themselves will be able to remind you of your return times.

I used to think this whole next gen system was something else for the doom and gloomers/negativity clique to complain about, but the whole concept is very dynamic and Iam totally looking forward to its implementation.

This technology is the future for vacation resorts.

Jimmy Thick-Yes, its worth a billion...

Saw this being tested at HM and Buzz Sunday. Each time two CMs were furiously tapping on tablets while the test families stood there looking agitated. Looks like they have some bugs to work out.

I feel like it's 1999, the Prince song is playing nonstop, and we're discussing the initial roll out of FastPass.

It's a zero-sum system. You don't create capacity out of thin air. So if the 'tourists' get more FastPasses, something else will have to give. The question is, what will give?

Still waiting on them being able to sync my room reservation with my dining reservations before 180 days out. We could be waiting for this for a while.

Hi!

Like someone mentioned a few posts back, they are testing it with Magical Express riders. We did it Sunday. What appears on the iPad is the persons name and anything they may be celebrating. The pass is pretty easy to use and doesn't hold the line up too much. Takes a bit longer to process for a big group or family since they have to wait on each pass to pop up on the computer. I will post a longer description when I get back.
