Here's some updated news on the Jungle Cruise Movie From Box Office Mojo

Jungle Cruise a High Priority at Disney

Source: Box Office Mojo
November 16, 2007

Box Office Mojo got a chance to talk to Walt Disney Pictures Chairman ________ Cook and asked him about the Jungle Cruise movie, which will be based on the Disneyland ride much like the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise is. Here's a clip from the article:

There will be a family involved. The skipper will play a very important role. He'll be more of an Indiana Jones kind of guy, with a little Jack Sparrow in him, who's going to be able to take this family on an adventure that they never dreamed they were going to be on when they first got on board. In true Disney fashion, it will definitely have the adventure and the intensity—but also the heart and the fun. We hope we have a good outline of where we want to go and what we want to do with it in the next year.

I think it really depends on who the actors involved are. Johnny Depp made the Pirates movie's famous, and his character portrayal was somewhat worrysome to Disney.

Hmm, Jack Sparrow worked for Pirates, so let's toss a character similar to his style in every movie we make! Instant $$!

Not too sure on this one yet, it can go either way. Here's hoping it performs well enough to warrant a Spaceship Earth film.

Is it just me or does it sound a lot like the Martin Short, Kurt Russell movie Capt. Ron?

I'm not sure how I feel about this one yet.

I kind of like the idea for a Jungle Cruise movie, but it needs to be done right! (i.e. Haunted Mansion). I think a movie about Expedition Everest would work, but its too early for that. Jungle Cruise is a classic attraction. Look for the next Disney theme park adapated movie to be the Mad Tea Party!

Hm... I'll have to hear a larger plot synopsis to make a full judgement, but so far its not sounding that good. A guy taking his family on a boat ride? What happened to 1930s skippers giving tourists from Europe jungle boat rides story like from the ride?

So far Disney rides into movies have got two strikes ( HM, and Country Bears ), and a homerun ( POTC franchise ). If this movie fails, then you can pretty much say goodbye to anymore rides into movies.

DRIFT ENGAGED...

Couldn't they just go back and make better movies out Tower of Terror and Haunted Mansion...??? These rides have awesome potential... but as soon as they signed the cast the only potential they had was to potentially stink up the theatres...

I WANT A DO-OVER!!!

.....Are there do-overs in hollywood??

DRIFT DISENGAGED...

I definately would like a do-over of the haunted mansion movie. Its amazing how much potential it had, but they just flushed it down the toilet. Such terrible miscasting with Eddie Murphey and Jennifer Tilly. And why was Wallace Shawn cast as a ghost?! He has to be the most un-ghost like actor ever!
