New Year's Eve: Which Park?

Hey everybody! I'm going to be in Disney on New Year's Eve and my family isn't quite sure yet what we'll be doing, either Magic Kingdom or Epcot. What park do you think will be the best on New Year's Eve?

EP-______! EP-______! EP-______!

Best atmosphere, great fireworks, and from a crowd control perspective, you'll like that you'll be able to move around more easily and leave more quickly than you do at MK. It'll be crowded, don't get me wrong, but overall it will be a bit easier to move about.

Enjoy whichever park you dicide upon. Wish I was going to be there. :(

EDIT: Can you believe it actually edits out C O T??? :ROFLOL:

I'm going to go the other way and say MGM, errr DHS. Epcot is cool but very very crowded, we did NYE there in 06/07 and stayed at BC so we could just walk to the resort instead of fighting with busses. The fireworks were cool, but as I said, it was just too crowded for our taste. You can do the NYE fireworks on 12/30 at MK which is the same show as the ones on NYE, so no need to go there on NYE, plus they don't have alcohol at MK if that is important (we're not big drinkers but it is nice to enjoy an adult beverage every once in a while).

We like DHS for a couple of reasons. It's usually not as crowded. We like to have a nice dinner at Brown Derby, It's relatively easy to get around the park even with the crowds, there's stuff to do while you wait -- rides, get some cocoa and walk through the dancing lights. And finally the fireworks -- now days this is the only time you'll get to see fireworks in the park, and it's a fantastic show. We've done NYE at DHS twice and had a great time both times. I highly recommend it!

I'd side with the poster above and go with DHS. But of the two choices you gave EPCOT would be my choice. Much better crowd handling, much more to do when it's crowded. You can always get into the shows there even with huge crowds.

I suggest you go see MK's show on Dec. 30th and then Epcot on Dec. 31st. Both are excellent shows. The Studios also does a great show as well....but you will have to decide on which to do on the 31st.

I've been there twice on NYE. Once as a small child and once recently as an adult. Both times we went to MK. This last time, we wanted to spend the early part of the day in Epcot, but we worried MK would reach it's maximum, and the wife really wanted to be there for the countdown. Anyways, we spent the whole day in MK. Crowded, but fun. I think MK has more emotional impact for me and my group, but I'd really like to try Epcot, as I think it'd be much easier/funner.

The other thing to consider is how busy it will be and if you will need to get to the park early and stay all day. We usually like to go back to our resort around noon and go for a swim or take a nap, so when we decided to do EPCOT, we wound up staying there from about 10am till 1am. Made for a long day with a 2y/o. At DHS you would probably have no problem getting in to the park as late as 4 or 5 pm.

Hey everyone, I just want to thank you guys for the help! I just got back from my trip a couple days ago and I ended up going to DHS on New Year's! And, they were the best fireworks I have ever seen. Durangojim, you made a great point that it's the only time you can see fireworks there. I don't know why they don't every night cuz they were amazing. The band that performed, Mulch, Sweat, and Shears, were really good too and fun to watch. So thank you again guys!

I've seen MK at NYE 3 times, and while it's really hard to pass up (and even harder to convince others to pass it up), I still feel like each time we should've gone to Epcot. The food/atmosphere just seems way more NYE-ish than that of MK's. Either way though, you'll be fine...
