I was visting WDW not to long ago and I asked a Cast member, (who was on vacation at the time), if he knew what was going to replace the " River Country" Water park. He really didn't know too much about it but he knew there was one on the way and that they were debating on what to call the new park. He said that they thought that "Never Never Land" was the name they were leaning for but was not for sure if that was it!

Hey!
Nope!, that wasn't what I was told. I stayed at both Fort Wilderness Camp Ground, and the Wilderness Lodge. I talked to the Cast memeber about it when I was at our Disney's Old Key West Villa. He told me exactly what I told you above so that is what I know?

Why didn't you ask the people at Fort Wilderness about River Country? Wouldn't they know more about their own pool than the CM's at OKW?

Hmm... A new water park based (at least) in Peter Pan's escapades... You know, at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim their pool area is themed to the exact same thing - Neverland... IT makes you think...:D

Hey!
I was on vacation and not only did I ask a Cast Member I also got to talk with an Imagineer who was on vacation as well. He was just a couple of doors down. He was also kind of agreeing about the same water park idea but he said he wasn't really suppose to say anything. The Imagineers are the real people you talk to about things like this but they are so sacred about there work so it is impossible to get any information about it?

Interesting rumor but it's just that...take everything you hear from Cast Members or Imagineers with a grain of salt. Disney sometimes spreads its own rumors (releases details on supposed projects) just to interest people. While Imagineers design rides, they design many more rides than they build. They have imaginations, not the millions of dollars needed to build the rides (well, they are rich, but you know what I mean). Eisner, Rasulo, Weiss, etc approve projects.

Any imagineer really on the inside wouldn't be spreading the word at a resort that he was an imagineer.

Cast Members are notoriously wrong. Talking to them would be just like talking to any person you can find on the street in your hometown.

CM's try to guess at things, but the fact remains that they will be building nothing for awhile. They've kinda made this clear in the last year or so now. The attendance is way down, and until the economy improves, you won't see anything going up anywhere.

Besides....isn't the River country area a bit out of the way to be building anything new?

also... some CM's get kicks from giving guests false rumors.

Cast Members

I was even told by a cast member not to listen to the cast members because they just guess most of the time. He said that they only see "guests" in the parks for short periods of time and they like to give them stories. He said they usually know about the same time as everyone else.

Yea, most of us know that I think, but isn't the whole idea of this thread to ponder the idea of a Neverland Water Park, rather than if rumors are true or not?

I happen to love the idea, but it just doesn't seem to fit the concepts of the other newer water Parks... Natural Freak Disasters (Blizzard and Typhoon). However, a Disney Themed Park would be a nice change, and Neverland lends itself very well, but so could the Little Mermaid. I just don't think they will be that specific with the next Water Park... maybe they will, but I don't see it based on past parks and concepts.

Although there is the Neverland Pool at DL Hotel, still that is much smaller Scale.

Another cast member rumor. They seem to be good for starting arguments if nothing else. And so we have another thread...

(Although I don't have any desire to become a cast member, that part of the job would be fun -- passing out bogus rumors to unsuspecting guests.)

I e-mailed them about River country and got this message back.

We anticipate that Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon, which Amusement
Business
magazine rated recently as the No. 1 and No. 2 most visited water parks
in the
United States, will be able to meet guest demand for Disney water parks
in 2003.
Therefore, River Country isn't scheduled to open in 2003. As always, we
will
continue to evaluate our product offerings in the future to meet guest
demand
and uphold our commitment to providing outstanding vacation
experiences.

The guy that wrote this knows absolutely NOTHING about Disney's plans. His biggest worry is whether the new girl thinks his Lilo and Stitch pocket protector makes him look juvenile or effeminate. His boss came up to him and said "Create a BS memo to pass on to the bozos on WDWMagic and then lets go out for drinks and have a good laugh!" He wrote the memo but declined the invite so he could go out and see The Two Towers for the 20th time.

Water Parks

Just today the Orlando Sentinel reported that water park attendance was down. (Same article had info that 100 years of Magic has been extended again. Even my 9 year old noticed that it should be 101 by now). So it seems bottom line Disney wouldn't worry about adding capacity in the water park area.

Not having been out on the island, and considering the popularity of the other water parks, my first question is: what about parking and crowd access?

My next question is open to anyone with a greater knowledge of concrete construction: since we're talking about an island, would it be possible for the soil to support the tremendous weight of the concrete and water needed for a water park?
