New Water Park to replace "River Country"

My next question is open to anyone with a greater knowledge of concrete construction: since we're talking about an island, would it be possible for the soil to support the tremendous weight of the concrete and water needed for a water park?

Well, look at the Island at AK, it has a giant Tree and shops and Restaurants, and technically IoA is supported by a ring of "islands", so I suppose it could be anything as long as It appears to be an Island. I'm sure it would be built from scratch in an area that does not currently have water around it wouldn't you think?

What Island?

The only thing about river country being turned into a Neverland water park is that most (if not all) of the water at river country is lake water, so it is brown. Some kind of american theme would probably go better with the lake setting, because Neverland would look strange with brown "ocean water."
I heard a rumor a while back about a Louisiana or Bayou concept for a water park that would work though.( even though that would be cool if it was near Port Orleans)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that Disney does not allow swimming in any of it's lakes anymore. So, since River Country is pretty much right in Bay Lake, it seems that it would now be off limits for swimming. It has something to do with bacteria in Florida's lakes.

Has anyone been in the mouseboats on the 7 Seas Lagoon, or is it Bay Lake over to where River Country is to see if there is any sign of life there?

I have never visited any of the disney water parks but i have heard awesome things about them. i think that a new water should be the last of thier worries. they got better things to do than worry about a water park. I would think if the rate of people was going up they would consider it but i just read somewhere on this websites that the rate of people was going down not up. i dont think a new water park is really neccesary unless both of the parks are very crowded. They probaly get busy in the summer but does get busy enough for a brand new water park. Answer that. im no trying to sound like a jerk but i dont think it is neccesary

Dang i just read through that and noticed i use the word "neccesary" alot. :p :lookaroun

He wrote the memo but declined the invite so he could go out and see The Two Towers for the 20th time.

WHAT ISLAND?????

River country is on the southern shores of bay lake between the wilderness lodge and Ft Wilderness. you must be confusing it with Discovery Island.

Accually River country was built to look like it is part of bay lake But in fact there is a barrier that seperated the heated filtered water of River Country from the Bay lake water. you may not be able to see it clearly but it's there, that is the whole idea to give you that feel that you in the lake

Just today the Orlando Sentinel reported that water park attendance was down. (Same article had info that 100 years of Magic has been extended again. Even my 9 year old noticed that it should be 101 by now). So it seems bottom line Disney wouldn't worry about adding capacity in the water park area.

wait, there extending it again! when will it end now?

The article was talking about how water park attendence was down for TL, BB, and Wet & Wild.

Another blurb went on to say about how journalists that were going to cover 100 YOM didn't after 9-11 because they were pulled off to cover more important things. It said something how poor attendance was early and about how it wasn't until March that Disney really started advertising heavily. Thus, it was extended until the end of February. It's still leaving at the end of Feb, no extention except that of the 2 extra months already announced.

I rode out that way back at the beginning of December. You can't really get all that close though. I suppose if you took some binoculars you could see all the emptiness a little closer. Anyway, here's a photo I took...not very good, but it was really as close as I could get.

I don't know if it will be replaced, but it wont be reopened in its current form.

If they do replace it, however, they should go with some kind of american theme, because it is in between fort wilderness and the wilderness lodge. Why don't they just keep the theme and add some major new stuff?

Actually the memo from WDW guest communications is accurate in the reasons for River Countries closure. The capacity of River Country (around 1500 guests) pales in comparison to Typhoon and Blizzards capacities (7000 and 8000 respectively). Because of the smaller size and less attractions the cost of river country admission was $16 compared to $32 for Typhoon and Blizzaed. When you factor in that the average River Country attendance when it was open during the summer was around 700 the cost of maintaining the pools, and slides as well as paying the cast (engineering, guest sevices, custodial, lifeguards, and foods) it really isnt worth keeping it open when the excess crowds can be shuffled to Typhoon ($32 admission) instead.

Hey!
um.... nope. Cast members know just as much as we do about disney and the upcomming events. That is why yah have to talk to an imagineer. Not CaStMeMbErS

Most CM's are told on a NOT need to know basis....

Some CM's hear something about a waterpark
(most of the time from other CM's)

Most CM's have a high imagination....

And create the most spectacular things....... in their heads
and go public with that...
Sometimes their dream comes true, sometimes
and then they're just lucky...
But much more often it doesn't...

Since River country is right near the beach at Fort Wilderness, I don't know why they don't remove the big slide and just use it as a resort pool for fort wilderness. at least it will make use of dead space.
