I know this is in Disneyland Paris / Studios - but this footage is amazing!

I couldn't believe this opening - definitly the biggest opening for any of the ToT's before!
Think of the possibilities for night parties DHS could do with footage on the ToT as they did with this Grand Opening! Truely amazing! Talk about turning DHS around by doing something like this at night!!! :sohappy:

If you are interested mousebits has a video of the event. One of the members there and here whose name is Martin Smith attended the event. He is well known in the fan community as making some of the best videos. He also wrote an article about the event on the Jim Hill web site.

Wow...very nice. They are using that new technology where they can wrap a building with any image, moving or static. Very neat.

Yes..saw that already - but was more pointing out about what could be done at night "our" DHS...

Something like this at night at DHS would really be a big hit and totally keep them jammed in. I mean, they do a rendition-if you will, on the Castle during the fireworks (nothing that impressive - but still).

It would be cool to see something like that at WDW. I wonder if TSM opening will be that dramatic.:)

I saw this early on Miceage. It looked awesome. I really liked the music the had playing after the whole show. I think the projections would be really cool on our TOT around Halloween or during the hard ticket events they are starting to get at DHS.

Those projections are really cool! They could be an attraction in and of themselves!

Sorry, but while an animatronic building would be cool, I would not want it to be of Stitch. ;)

How about this: Disney turns Spaceship Earth into the "Omnidroid" from The Incredibles? I think that would make one very nice animatronic building.

I watched the video.

This is a perfect example of why I love Disney theme parks, and what I wish they would do more of.

The story here is told like nothing I've ever seen! Guests entering through the eerily dark Hollywood Boulevard, and then approaching the tower itself, where this magnificent show unfolds before your eyes. The part with the cars and the actors was wonderful. Disney makes these awesome, awesome sets, but its the integration of actors that truly brings these locations to life.

I love hearing the narrator say "Hollywood, 1939" Then BAM! The show starts, and the place comes to life. Then they unfold the events going on inside the tower with these really cool projections (which I bet look even cooler in person). Then they tell the story we all know and love with great pyro that serves to tell the story, as opposed to random fireworks for the sake of fireworks. And that's just the beginning! Then the audience actually gets to participate by entering this world that has just been unveiled before them, and ride through the Twilight Zones themselves.

I wish they could do this every night at DHS! I can dream...:)

The projection system is nice and it does look like they put work into that opening, but as a whole I thought it was quite crappy. 99% of the scenes were chaotic and had absolutely nothing to do with the attraction, there was no order or story being told and that bellhop guy was creepy (not good-creepy, but rather combination Michael-Jackson-and-Pe e-Wee-Herman-creepy). The only parts I thought were decent was the initial rain effect and the wires/pyro segment.

I definitely do not want to see this come to DHS. All DHS's Tower needs is a proper lighting system to show off the fantastic facade it already has. The projection system could be cool for any after-hour parties (like having a rain/thunder effect going on), but central Florida has enough rain and thunder without the need of an expensive projection system. So overall, I want to see a proper lighting system, not projection system. Just my opinion though.

Im pretty sure they would have used High End System's DL.2 Collage Generator. Disney has a great working relationship with this world-wide leader in lighting. Almost all of the lights at Mannequins Dance Palace are from High End Systems.

Doubtful, those units dont have nearly the punch to pull something like that off. Also, why would you use a moving head projector to cover an entire building?

If I had to guess, its much more likely they used a large number of projectors, possibly triple stacked (3 projectors next to each other outputting the same image on the same surface for extra punch) likely from Barco or Christie.

Completely agreed. Though those projections might be nice on a special event basis, it really takes away from the themeing and character of the building. It also hampers the exposition of walking towards the tower and the queue.

Video has gotten cheaper and much, much brighter recently and therefore we're all becoming over-exposed and desensitized to it. THough I do think that for an opening it was a cool concept, great technical execution, and decent creative execution.
