New Tomorrowland Rock Paint Job

It really does look better in person. If you think it looks artificial, well...it certainly isn't natural and I think that's why it works. It looks alien to us making us really believe this land isn't of this planet or time period.

I think the rest of the land will see more and more paint upgrades. Astro Orbiter, TTA, Lunching Pad, & COP got their obvious paint changes, but so had the DVC Kiosk, the stage, and a few minor changes here and there such as the black light poles are now red and the silver pilars outside Monsters now have some teal on them.

Landscaping is starting to change a bit too. There are some new plants near COP, Speedway, the Buzz meet & greet, and a few smaller planters here and there.

We've seen the chamber of commerce sign leave on the main strip into the land too.

While the land won't be rethemed per say, it certainly is getting an update. More paint and facade work will be expected. Nothing will be drastic, but if anything crazy happens it will be more for Guest flow than aesthetics.

We were there about a month ago, and prior to arriving I didn't particularly care for the new color at that point. Once we were there and viewed it in person my opinion changed to being neutral. It looked better in person than I had expected. It was more purple at that point and one impression I left with was they weren't purple rocks, but rocks that were painted purple. That impression was enhanced when we were closer to them. More and more detail is lost with each application of paint, and in some areas it appeared to be pretty thick. The current appearance looks a little better on my monitor, but I'm still pretty neutral on the change at this point. In natural light it could look quite different.

Personally, I don't hate it. It looks very sharp. I love the fact that TomorrowLand is getting some TLC

And McDonald's can hand you a burger in seconds while some restaurants can take a half hour.
I have worked in skilled trade and there is a huge difference in time frames based on the level of quality. Some may even look similar on the outside, but something can look just fine but not be made to last which will become apparent over time.

True... except we can compare Disney to Disney in this case... so I'm not comparing to McDonalds quality.

I can tell you from a painting perspective (I am a professional scenic artist) this isn't as simple as it may appear. First of all the rocks are quite large and must be painted on all sides (and in tons of cracks, nooks and crannies). The rocks by the water also pose many complications as far as (lack of) accessability. And finally the metallic treatment is quite complex. Metallic paints are virtually all transparent to a degree, and this multi-hewed look would require careful base-coating and a series of airbrushed layers to achieve the final look.

Photo update as of Friday, October 14. The paint job on the Tomorrowland rocks on the left side of the entrance appear to be completed, as the scaffolding has been removed. The scaffolding on the right side is still in place and the rocks don't appear exactly like the ones on the left. When this project is completed, expect to see photos in the "Then and Now" thread.

Can anyone confirm the rock painting has been completed? Leaving in 17 days <head explodes!!!!> and, while scaffolding, scrims and whatnot are (hopefully) signs of progress and good things to come, they're a bit of an eyesore.
