New Theme Park Proposed Outside Atlanta - Competition for Disney?

One Little Spark...
The Fulton Landfill is near Forest Park.

Anyhow...this whole thread is amusing.

It won't happen. If it does, it's aimed (as best I can tell) at the Nashville and NC tourist market, not the Disney/FL market. There are quite a few from Atlanta who take vacations in those area resorts (and they are far from theme parks, more just resorts with themes)...

It's along the same lines of those who push for a gambling center to take over the Ford (south side) or GM (north side) plants to keep Atlanta tourists from leaving the city. (which, is an idea I support, actually, especially the Doraville plans)

This means nothing.

Being where its located I would have guessed Fulton. As a local, I would never step one foot in that gangland. Do they still have "wear your gang colors and pack your favored postal" night? Maybe it has changed but the one time I tried to even look into going, someone was shot that night and we turned around and went back home. I have hard many stories of danger there.

First, that's not very nice.
Second, I believe the park is actually in Cobb county.

There really have not been too many serious, violent incidents at Six Flags Over Georgia.

It's gotten better from what I've heard. They had a couple incidents a few years ago, but have since tightened security and gotten better control over some of those issues.

Incidents at Six Flags Over Georgia are virtually non-existent now, however, the park is essentially a dumping ground for high school kids during the summer. Mom and dad don't want them in the house and they just drop them off with their AP's in tow each day. Having taken my children there, it's rather miserable.

I think it's more the immediate vicinity and Six Flags Rd, so people end up linking incidents to the park itself. If I recall correctly, the big fight that made headlines a few years ago was actually an escalation of activities that partly occurred in the park but happened outside of Six Flags' property. A bunch of violence on Universal Blvd would probably have people questioning the atmosphere of Universal Orlando Resort even if nothing ever actually happened near the resort.

There isn't much out there aside from the theme park. It's hardly MLK near I-20... If people consider Six Flags "the ghetto", they really don't know the city well at all...

No
Being from Smyrna, I would check it out if this ever does happen, but no park will really compete for my annual Disney Trips, those will always happen regardless of whats built nearby. Another thing to consider is that the weather blows here from November to late March. While not nearly as bad as the Northeast its still not weather I want to be in at an amusement park.
