There’s a chance of a fifth gate too....

@marni1971 ,

Disney and More is reporting that Universal is working on their 3rd gate to open in 2022 or 2024. I like and trust 5his source. Seems like it takes something like this or Potter to get Disney off their butt. Do you think Disney will answer with a 5th gate or more expansion? They are going to have to do something big!

Yes, that report is correct in many (but not all) ways. Uni is stepping it up yet another gear.

I doubt WDW would counter with a gate. As WDWMAGIC said the investment and initial outlay isn’t something the company would want to do - in their eyes people will still come to WDW. They’ve been stung with lacklustre underbuilds of the last four parks they’ve opened (including Shanghai) - and they’d be opening in a market who expect more than a half baked Park now.

DAK also showed there is a finite amount of guests to fill the parks; more guests don’t just come to see a new park - those who would already come just spread themselves around more thinly and consequently cannibalise existing parks attendance. Why spend a few billion on a new park when the same guests will spend the same amount of money in the existing parks. Harsh, but that’s corporate thinking.

I do think Disney will counter in the middle of the next decade. They’ll have to. But not to the extent of a new park.

I think you're right about this at least for the next 10-15 years. There's still plenty to do to expand the existing parks. MK needs more capacity and the other parks could be expanded to make them 2 day parks. Epcot used to be, there's plenty of land at DAK.. DHS may not have enough land to make it a 2 day park, but if you have 3 solid two day parks and one single day/day and a half park, Disney would be in great shape to take on Universal's 3rd gate .

Im still excited to find out the mode of transportation that you barely hinted at for UNIs 3rd gate. I assume not gondolas!

Seeing what Disneyland has done with the rivers of America to build Star Wars land, it should be easier to do the same kind of thing eventually at the Magic Kingdom. There's just too many expansion pads not being used in the worlds busiest theme park. More pathways, more attractions = better guest dispersal.
I bet more people would ride the RoA if it was the Black Pearl and a pirate theme.

A water management permit was filed today that covers the theater project, called MK1. You can see the outline of the building in the plans...

View attachment 245585

When Disney originally filed this permit it covered two project, MK1 which was the theater and MK2 which is Tron. An update to this permit was filed today that among other things removes all references to MK1.

Personally i think part of this was the choice of an animal park. I think if they had built a star wars park, a marvel park (I know they cant), a classic Disney (everything black and white including the trees.. odd dream I had sorry) a classic forgotten Disney movie park (fox and the hound, robin hood, lilo and stich (I don't admit there is a ride currently) aristocats 101 dalmations, or a villain park... I think that would bring in a ton of guests... I just don't think an animal park really made people say MAN I GOT TO SEE THAT!!!

But remember: the cover story the next day was the “budget” was reallocated somewhere else...be patient. Like igers yacht polishing.

PCQ is 99.71% on that one.

i've been wondering if PCQ is even relevant to twdc, because, as we're well aware, PDQ is essentially impossible
;)

I thought of calling it “innuendo float factor”...IFF...

But rejected it because I know that as International Flavors and Fragrances - the people that put the color and smells into Big Macs to make them ooohhh so tasty.

Go back and look at the discussion thread...the canary was singing sweet nothings

I did. And the first person to mention the budget being a factor was you!

I'm slow on the take here...

But unless all the discussion for 10 years has been way off...there have been significant cancellations/alterations/or budget reductions to the following projects over the last decade:

1. New fantasyland
2. Avatar
3. Toy story land
4. Disney springs

...that may not be a "pattern" per se...but it's also not a "series of unfortunate events"

I would expect something similar in the grand scheme at Epcot in the next year as well.

Perhaps the problem is D23...and what it actually is?

So whatever that unnecessary barb about a canary singing is all about, you might do well to remember that!
