:cry::cry::cry: I had just left WDW telling everyone that the Symphony in the Stars fireworks show was one of the best I've ever seen ... and I was hoping that this would live up to that. @wdwmagic you were right in saying that this is a great show, but fireworks purists might not like it. This is mostly a projection show with some fireworks added. I feel like it's almost just a quick summary of the movies with some pyro instead of a different show I'd love to watch. Symphony in the Stars knocked me off my feet and I would not mind at all if they had to close some rides early to make room for the fireworks. agh :banghead:

Just to point something out,ToLA is also a collection of original stories....

Also, people need to put in perspective that shows like this are hard to create due to the fact the images cant be re-created!

You have to use what you are given and many times it can come off as a bunch of movies scenes thrwon together because in the end that is what it is!

What utter rubbish.

Should've kept Symphony. That was an awesome fireworks show.

How did a show with this one's operational madness come from the same company that just spent $10s of millions to enlarge a hub elsewhere that was an operation nightmare due to a hub-centric show that none-the-less provided an adequate view from the main thoroughfare. So let's build a new show in an area with a smaller hub and a truly dreadful view from the main thoroughfare.

And now these geniuses are going to time everything so this show ends at the exact same time as Fantasmic! ends in July? Good luck getting a bus. I imagine management has their collective heads so far up their butts here that they can see IllumiNations.

But, please continue to take your time building a family coaster and whip ride. There's no capacity issue to see here.

Well they could... if they were willing to spend the money. If they can make a young Jeff Bridges for a sequel to Tron, they should be able to recreate pretty much anything they want that'll stand up to the scrutiny of 5 seconds of projection mapping.

I get why they wouldn't want to spend for that kind of work but when you think of the longevity of a typical Disney show and the fact that they've had no problem adding multiple unique scenes to Star Tours in recent years, they could have done a better job if they wanted to spend the money to do so. Clearly they didn't.

As someone else pointed out though, with projection, updates are relatively easy. If they went into the mindset of considering corporate synergy in both directions during the filming of newer movies, they could easily film non-CG heavy scenes from angles and with setups and possibly even unique dialog with full intent to use those scenes exclusively for shows like this at relatively low costs.

If this is really intended to be a long-term permanent show, this could be massaged into something more over time, including projection mapping the second story+ of every building on Hollywood Blvd if it made sense to.

The real question though, is if Disney expects this particular show to be around for the next decade or if it's just until the new land opens? Does anyone know? Everything they've built seems like it could be used for any show of this type promoting a new popular movie for the current year, doesn't it?

They did make many scenes just for the show. It's not just a bunch of movie clips put together.

Really? I'm not a super-fan of the franchise so it's likely I'd have missed it but could you point out which parts were new? Were they strictly for alignment with the buildings? I'm just curious.

In watching this, minus the fireworks, it feels like an extended version of something they might show at the Oscars as they present George Lucas with a lifetime achievement award, you know, without the rolling boulder coming down the front of theater.

It feels mostly like a greatest hits compilation to me. I have friends who are borderline disturbed in regards to their fandom of this franchise. I'm not one of them so maybe I'm just not the target audience for what this is. I'd say this is better than what's happening over at Animal Kingdom in regards to Jungle Book but this feels like a compromise to bring down the cost associated with the previously heavy pyro show and to keep from having to close off parts of the park that were affected from the ash during the previous show(s) - not something better, or overall, as good...

But I guess it's subjective. TSMM with a third track and this pulling people away combine to increase my family's chance of getting to ride that (or ride it a second time) so I'm not really going to complain. ;)

Most of the battle scenes, all the individual villain segments, pretty much all the landscape/environment shots, the Anakin vs. Obi-Wan fight, etc. Even some scenes that look very similar to the movies are actually recreations.

I haven't gotten thru out the comments posted so far, ( I will later) but I just wanted to put down my thoughts about this show. I went to see it last night, and I have say the following taking into account that I am comparing it to Disney Standards.

- LMITED SPACE: The optimal viewing angle is from dead center in the hub. Viewing from the back is basically none existent. Having this said, almost half the space is taken up by the dessert party off to the side. The 2 projection towers seemed out of place and out of symmetry, makes the hub looks smaller and cramped.

- SYMMETRY: The symmetry of this show is basically none existent. It was kind of chaotic at times, I never felt like there was an "optimal" spot to see the show. Projections are located on top of the Chinese theater, veering left, and then a separate projection area to the far right, (close to the little mermaid show). Fireworks are off set to the right, at times it felt like there was a completely different show happening next door with fire works. The low altitude primer fireworks seem to have to suffer from symmetry as well. It was just... odd.

- PROJECTIONS: Projections were decent I have to say, Some scenes worked, some scenes didn't. but nothing like celebrate the magic or the Tree of life. I was located close to the middle hub, and the stage pillars (used for the day time star wars cat walk) obstructed the view and kind of took away form the whole show.

Over all it felt like this was not a permanent set up. It did have a makeshift feel to it and I hate to say this, but it was very Universal Studio'ish.

Over all it's a welcomed addition... but this is one of those "you could have knocked it out of the park" but instead it felt half a$$ed.

ok rant over

I think they are all very valid comments.

I would love to know what the long term intentions are with the show, and more so, the new launch site.

BTW, there are some operational changes coming that will help with getting more guests into the hub area.

Can you elaborate details? Operational to me sounds like cast members herding crowds to specific areas, or eliminating/relocating the dessert party. Is that along the lines of what you are mentioning?

How about putting dessert parties for 3000 guests on the roofs of all the buildings? Or inviting shorter guests to request piggy-back rides from tall strangers.

I can't believe how underwhelming this is. My family loved the frozen fireworks but this is meh. It makes me sad to think this is the best they can do with all this tech and the SW franchise, although, maybe it's better in person. This isn't enough for me to burn a night at MGM where last summer we went to the Frozen fireworks 3Xs and none of us of frozen fanatics.

Well you're judging a show without having seen it. So.

Do you have any info on the flame throwers? That's the only flaw I see since it was on the concept art.
