New Space Mountain Starcade Queue - Open

Well, they did kind of ruin it when they took out the windows and the wacky videos on the TVs. You also don’t get to stand in line in there too much because of stupid Fastpass.

Similar to how in Indiana Jones, they spent loads of time developing a queue with interactive effects, codes you can decipher, that's indoors and exquisitely themed.... Only to have everyone wait outside for Fastpass.

I'm a huge fan of the Fastpass program program, it's just a shame it's negatively impacted the queue's for some older attractions.

The outdoor waiting line has been a slapped together awkard mess ever since I first saw it. You go up a ramp like you're in a mall parking garage and then you're on a roof with a helipad and EPCOT Center music playing. The actual themed air-conditioned portions are passed through quickly.

Used to be that the line would extend all the way through the interior portion of the queue. For whatever reason, they’ve decided to minimize the folks waiting inside.

It’s a lot roomier than it looks in the vid I posted. Here’s a better look — more switchbacks as you get further along...

Love the soundtrack they have playing. Not sure if it’s the echo/ acoustics but it works better in there than anywhere else.

According to the XBOX game, the Starcade is supposed to be a bunch of Captain EO shirts with Rocketeer music playing. I think I like it better that way.

Now, I can't wait for what they do the the rumored change for the Matterhorn queue. I'm liking these changes in preparation of Galaxy's Edge opening. Most should have been done years ago.

Curious minds want to know... what are the rumored changes for the Matterhorn queue? :)

Yes
I could be wrong, but it doesn't look like this absorbs much of the waiting line anyway. It's not a very large space and because it's slapped together, the line goes around a large pit that was for escalators.

They couldn’t even bother to make it a complete room. Screams temporary but it’s not.

Fastpass is that reason.
I also remember hearing something about fire codes and emergency exit concerns. I don't know if there's any truth to it.

On another note: I really like that they didn't extensively remodel this space. I'm a big fan of the Space Mountain complex and its architecture. I would have been sad to see yet another remaining piece of it go. Re-opening an abandoned room and putting it to good use is a win in my book.

Best part is the murals but those were already there. Don't care for the satellite panels as they feel way too modern.

At first glance it looks better to me than the entire Space Mountain Q from the entrance to the load room. Everything up the load room leaves much to be desired and looks like a very generic plasticky spaceport.

But in 1977 this treatment was upscale for Disney. It was kind of 2001: A Space Odyssey meets the Death Star. The inside queue up to the octagon vestibule (before entering the load room) was much less claustrophic than in the last two refurbs. The upper queue around the open-air Space Stage was very kinetic. The exit out to Tomorrowland was much more open. I miss it.

Interesting. Didn’t really think about the fact that it probably looked good at one time. I guess like much of the rest of TL, it didn’t age well. I like how the speedramps look in pictures. When did they get rid of those? I don’t remember them at all but I think it happened in my lifetime.
