New rule on CoP?!

I recently rode Carousel of Progress - at least five times last week - and noticed a new rule, or at least new to me. They don't allow photography or video recordings. Now, photography I could understand due to flash, but video recording?? Is this a new rule?! Why is videotaping not allowed on the attraction?

No
are you sure its not just camcorder light that they prohibit? I haven't heard anything about video taping itself

I've never understood why some attractions allow it and others don't...except that maybe its a rule because it might be possible to block the view of someone behind you in the theater type setting.

I rode it in May and someone was flash pictures.

Someone sitting on the other side of the theater made a point to yell in the middle of the show, "NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY!"

Now, which is worse?

anyone who does flash pictures is considered scum by me. Since it ruins the affect of most rides in disney. Especially HM and PotC

That's not a new rule, it's been in place for a while. This I know because about a year and a half ago I tried to videotape it anyway (with no external lighting on the camera so as not to disturb others) and they still stopped the ride midway through to remind us there was no videotaping. I was plenty embarrassed until I realized the guy next to me was videotaping it too!!

As for why they don't allow it, I've never really understood it. Perhaps so there's no evidence of what a great ride it was in the event that they decide to close it.

Yeah, it's been awhile. I wanted to tape it when we went in March 2004, but heard the announcement that it was prohibited. I was a little surprised, because the 'no video' rule seems to be rare.

This past April I was able to videotape it. I did it the first of two viewings of the show. None of the CM's had a prob with me doing it. I sat in the back row middle and blanced the camera on my knee and chair infront of me to be sort of like a tripod. I was only unconfortable because that camera was looking right at me from the front of the theater. :lookaroun

But I'm glad I did it, I used no bright light, no LCD, etc. And the theater wasn't that full, must people were in the front row which was good for me.

Howver we had a trainer from Hong Kong disneyland and for both times I rode, one in the 1920 and the other the 1940s she came over the intercom and said plese remains eated at all times.

What is wrong with people getting out of their seats, moving to another one for a better view, or attending to their child if they need to when the theater is not moving for 4 minutes. I think the signs of the music coming in to play, father getting ready to sing, and hearing the theater move up into position will tell you time to sit down again.

I love the COP. I hope they never replace it.

Exactly it ruins the magic. It happend on my last trip in the HM. Some idiot used a lighted video camera most of the entire ride in front of our car.

Until someone yelled, turn off the camera. Of course it continued outside with people making comments directed towards her.

They've made a point to say that specifically for awhile now. Hasn't stopped me from taking non-flash photos. So long as I'm not interrupting someone, I want to save images from one of my all-time favorite rides.

I've never seen them actually tell someone to stop recording though. Seems more like a C.Y.A. announcement then one they actively enforce.

They must have allowed video recordings at one time. Or else didn't catch people. How else would there be an Extinct Attractions Club DVD of the attraction?

No ban on audio recordings yet, though! *clutches audio recorder*

Thank god I`ve got both versions on tape! Not bad for an attraction TWDC arn`t supposed to care about anymore. Hmmmm...

I doubt Disney cares if you take pictures or video on any ride, so long as there isn't a light. The last time we went on CoP, my dad was video taping without any external lighting, and there were no problems.

I also remember he was video taping when the Beach Boys came to Epcot, after they specifically said not to. We weren't with him, but my mom and I heard it. We rolled our eyes and said he was probably going to tape anyway. We were right, and he got told off by a CM.

YOu can take photos just turn your flash off. I have the digital camra so I just take the photos and them take them home and brighten them up. It's not as good but at least it's something. I think that you can take a video just don't turn the light on.

They have been making the "No photography OR filming permitted" speech for at least two years now. It's really not new.

HOWEVER, I have seen MANY people film or take photos (some rude people WITH their flash!) and never heard a CM say a word about it.

I think while it's policy that officially you're not allowed to film or photograph the ride, in practice the CM's really don't care.

As I said, I've taken non-flash photos probably half a dozen times over the last year or two despite the "prohibitation" and no one cared.

We tend to ride CoP two times a trip to MK and we've been to MK about two dozen times in the last two years. They say it every time but don't care and don't stop you.

Probably a copyright issue - same as all the ones at MGM.
