Better off just ignoring these morons. They don't know how DLR works and because they didn't see '7 hour lines' then obviously the land is a failure. If Disney was REALLY worried about attendance or the land, they would have unblocked passes. But how worried can they be when they can't keep merchandise on the shelves in a 'failed' land? When you're selling about $100k (35 people per hour - which is 2.5 build sessions per hour - x the max of 14 people x 12 hours a day) of lightsabers per day, thats a lot of guests you can lose and still make the same amount of money. And thats just Savi's. To put it another way - 1 guest that builds at Savi's is basically equivalent to three guests.

Indeed. 3Q assessment that while revenue is down [compared to 3Q from last year] from lower attendance (which should absolutely not be equated with a net loss... the parks are still insanely profitable... just a little less so), spending per guest is up.

I think they just found the price point at DLR at which the inelastic demand snaps apart.
Yes, but as a reminder:

“Here in Florida, we have something special we never enjoyed at Disneyland: the blessing of guests who don’t care how good the rides are and will fork over 10s of thousands of dollars for beer gardens and cupcakes with mystery fillings.” -Walt Disney, 1964

Joe‘s always been a little more enthusiastic about the roadside tourist trap premise than most others, and what exists today is essentially a cheaper version of the concept with the Excavator. I’m sure he’s not lying when he says he likes Dino Rama. He just wishes it was closer to his full vision.

The thought behind the concept, as l understand it, is that it focuses on people’s fascination and imagination with dinosaurs, which allows for a deeper experience than just dinosaurs themselves. It also makes restaurants, shops, and the very presence of human civilization easier to incorporate. As well as, of course, everything Joe talks about above, barring his love for fake asphalt. I understand the positives to the concept, and I personally like it, but I‘m not sure it would’ve been incredibly well-received by most guests.

I think perhaps they should go more of a direction where Dinosaurs and other extinct animals are brought into our time and/or vice versa. Extend the Dino Institute direction and have a whole campus and research facility premise. How else would you implement a land with extinct animals? Serious question. I hope future plans for Dinoland answer this question rather than get rid of extinct animals completely, as has been tossed around as an idea.

i enjoy it best as scathing critique of manufactured theme, themed environs, tourists, and tourism 😜

Kind of makes me wonder... have any of the Imagineers ever admitted to disliking a ride? That they worked on or not, I mean?

You kind of have to wait until they become Former Imagineers. And even then, you have to wait until they are old enough to not worry about burning bridges in their career.

And even THEN they might be too polite to really tear into it. Tony Baxter dishes nasty dirt like "Eh, that didn't turn out as well as it could have."

I’m not sure what or where the exclusivity rights are applicable, but figured I’d ask. Sounds like they’re only applied for a certain park, my mistake!

Ratatouille had an exclusivity deal for Paris I think. There are definitely others but on a ride by ride basis, not a blanket one.

The only hard lines are power and possibly data. It was installed to be easily and quickly removable.
There is also a short run of hydraulic plumbing for TriceraTop Spin.

Tony Baxter is under no illusions regarding Tomorrowland 98. He knows it didn’t work and he accepts responsibility for it.

You know, there is a constant implication around these forums that is really wearing thin. And it's that, essentially, some of us are just too stupid to realize how bad Walt Disney World is and that we're being taken to the cleaners by Disney. As though the only possible conclusion anyone with a modicum of brain power could reach is that WDW is actually a dump and not worth the money.

It just so happens that I still think Walt Disney World is one of the best vacation destinations out there. My family and I still find it totally enjoyable and have never once left feeling disappointed. And, yes, even with the price increases and upcharge events and so forth, we still find it to be a good value for our vacation dollar. We even enjoy certain upcharge events like the Halloween party, which we still think are worth paying for because of the enjoyment we get out of them.

Now perhaps that makes us idiots. Or perhaps -- just perhaps -- it means that we have a different opinion and not everything is as cut and dried as you and some other posters like to make it seem.

It did. Then Disney bought 100% control of DLP. At that point, Disney was happy to not hold Disney to the exclusivity clause. The other international parks have partners who wouldn't be so willing to give up exclusivity.

1. PREACH!!!!

2. It's definitely the only place that still makes me happy, especially with... other stuff going on that I'd rather not talk about.
