I distinctly remember there being a rumor on here a few months ago about a new resort possibly being in the works between the Contemp. and the Poly? I know this was an "origional" plan, but never happened. Any one know more about this?

And could Disney make a new resort that is very well "deluxe" themed in time for the 40th?

Contemp and Poly? You mean Contemp and T&TC? Loads of room, the land won`t take it. That is why the Venitian was never built, and the 2 versions of the Mediteranean too - they`ve tried the Med 3 times.

My bad... yes i meant the TTC... Thanks for clearing that up. By the looks of it, it does seem there is more than enough room. Too bad really a med resort may be kinda cool... Is there any art out there for any of the versions that you know of? This would be a monorail resort right?

New resort is being built on Disney property, but it will not be owned & operated by Disney. Four Seasons is building a deluxe resort & golf course. It will be a 5 Star Resort so you can expect the prices to be "up there"...

It's such a shame that they couldn't build that instead of the ugly Bay Lake Tower.

Martin, you totally need to be Dave Smith's Parks and Resorts lieutenant! Or just the next Dave Smith!

Well, same sirname

You're probably secretly related! Even though you look absolutely nothing alike!

Here`s the none monorail version layout:
Med_Resort_1981_layoutweb.jpg

That would infuriate so many Guests! Imagine your average Joe, catches a casual glimpse of the Monorail through/past his Resort that he's paying megabucks to stay at, hops on the Monorail at the Magic Kingdom, and WHOOSH!! right past it! And the narration going something like "We are now passing the beautiful Venetian/Mediterranean Resort..."

You might be interested to know that that Monorail Station is actually marked on the power grid in the Monorail Central dispatch tower at the TTC. It's marked as "Mediterranean", at Pylon 15 if I remember right.

LOL.... It probably catalogued more than Epcot on that trip. :)

So, Martin - did you give Dave Smith your resume so he can annoint you his successor? ;)

And, on a serious note - did you get to talk with him at all?

I think that either of these resorts would be a great idea but isnt there any where else on property these resorts could go because there is not much room around the lake.
There is some room in between TTC and Poly and also a very little bit between MK and GF but that is used for lagoon parade floats i think so where else could these resorts go.. unless they took out that area with the floats and put the resort in and gave it a personal entrance to MK that would be very very cool, but then again not much room over there to do that

I know a little about this hotel concept too, that it was supposed to lay between the contemporary and TTC on the perfect plot of land directly across from GF...

And i'm not sure how true this is, but i had always heard from various transportation CMs and stuff that the land is just impossible to build on right there. Now I know that in actuality, all of WDW property is pretty much a giant swamp, but maybe there just isn't any amount of dredging or any other architectural techniques that could be done. Also, i heard that once Universal opened up the Portofino, Disney decided against the idea completely.

Piles driven into the land in question suffer from a condition known as negative skin friction. In layman's terms pilings that would normal support a building are actually sucked into the ground. From my understanding the condition is so extreme in that area that a neutral plane (point at which negative skin friction becomes positive resistance) could not be determined. When you consider that that piece of land is probably the most valuable piece of undeveloped land in all of WDW in terms of a new resort and BLT was built over and exiting resort it is pretty safe to conclude that development there might never occur.
