New projection show at DHS "Disney Movie Magic"

Great idea! but why does it seem like one big advertisement? How about a real montage of the great hollywood classics similar to the great movie ride ending?

EDIT: I see they littered a few classic scenes near the end... but still :/
I think it is a shame that Disney has stopped being Disney. WS no longer showcases a Disneyfied version of the world, but Disney IP. The GMR will no longer be a Disney ride through the movies, but a Disney IP. DHS no longer shows a Disneyfied Hollywood, but Disney IP. This projection show is not a Disney show about movies, but about Disney IP.

Disney has completely reduced what it means to be Disney. The word 'Disneyfication', for decades the hallmark of what is was that Disney was doing, will be meaningless soon.

And I have no problem with that!

Yes, many modern WDW fans would love to see all of WS, FW, the DHS front lot, nearly all of DAK, Typhoon Lagoon, Main Street and all MK lands minus New Fantasyland removed from WDW out of love for 'Disney'.

Muppets for Liberty Square, Elsa and fowl and rodents for WS, supaheroes for FW, Toy Story for Hollywood Backlot. Mickey for Casablanca. Duffy the ride in SSE. They would have Main Street replaced with Toontown and then walk it teary eyed to the Partners statue to cry how much they love Walt and his imagination.

You do realize that when that term is most commonly used, it's in a pejorative sense, right?
Yes. As a Disney fan, I don't care. It's tired entry-level cultural criticism for stuck up wannabe-intellectuals.

I love Disneyfication. =D The real Hollywood sucks, insofar as it even exists (is it even more real than the Disney take on it?). I'll take the glitz and glamour and sentimental nostalgia of the Disney version.

Looks great and gives the crowd waiting for Star Wars something to enjoy. They REALLY seem to want to keep people at DHS at night, which at least shows they understand there's not enough to do throughout the day. I just wish they would stagger F! more or add a second showing, it's a shame guests have to choose.
I have mixed feelings. When I myself have to make a choice between either one of two shows, I regret their being programmed simultaneously. But when I am at a show, I love how the crowds are being made manageable by diverting them.

Also, however frustrating sometimes, a choice between multiple options is better than just one option. Disney parks are such bliss when you feel you have endless possibilities of things to see and do (as long as the stress and rush doesn't kick in). It even creates a feeling all of its own, beyond the mere options themselves. One of freedom and immersion and to explore and go places and see stuff and return asap.

It a quick job to try and give a percived value to the parks admission given all the work going on. And to give guests something else to see - and another reason to stay into the evening - now we're hitting high season.

Somewhat ironic theming given the plans for the GMR.

This seems like the ending to the GMR. I could see them using this to try to "replace" the GMR. Now you can see the iconic movie montage without experiencing the ride.

I agree, but because it's at DHS, I unfortunately can't justify spending two evenings there, making it impossible to see both. Of course this is Disney's goal here, to spread out crowds in a park lacking capacity. I'm sure they'd prefer I spend another night there, but I'm not stealing that from the other parks that have much more to offer. I honestly can't think of another example of an offering that I can't make work in my plans, but this is a unique situation that DHS is currently in, and likely will only be compounded once SWL opens and brings even more guests. Just look at the insane lines at AK this morning!

I really enjoyed the video and am eager to see it in person. I loved all the nods to more obscure or underrated Disney films, and I felt that the films that did get longer sections were a lot of fun, especially the pirates, Indy and Tron parts. It did remind me a little too much of the end of GMR, as some already mentioned, which made me a little uneasy and kind of longing for a park that truly embraces "the magic of the movies".
Did anyone else notice that there is a whole lot of Kurt Russell? Not a complaint mind you!

I liked it and found a few things interesting. It has no fireworks, so as not to disturb the timeline elsewhere. When I get to the parks, I am generally going when Fantastic has 2 shows nightly, so if I wanted to see both, that wouldn't impact me. But mostly, I really wished for a moment that they put a projection of Mary Poppins or did that transition back to her after Yondu's last line. Disney seems to be putting their foot down that they are just as much movie magic as Universal. This reminds me of their Cinematic Spectacular, but better as this is not the only show available. (Star wars and fantastic). Hoping this will be there in some version when I get back for the holidays.

I really like it! Disney has a lot of really great live action films out there and it's awesome to see a show that is really a tribute to all of those great films in the Disney legacy. And I have absolutely no problem that it is "just" Disney films. "Great Movie Ride" is specifically a ride about movies in general, so yeah, you need to include whatever great property IPs the other studios will let you use, but this is a show all about Disney and I'm okay with that. If Universal did a similar show, you can bet your bottom dollar that it would only contain Universal properties. I don't think there's anything wrong with Disney showing some pride in their legacy of film...

I will say though, the whole show (at least to me) felt very much like a throw back to this old(er) Disney commercial...

I'm sorry but I think this is a little disingenuous. To say that the GMR will be replaced by "a Disney IP" like it is just another cash grab to capitalize on some modern IP recently acquired and therefore not truly Disney. It is Mickey Mouse! Mickey Mouse- how do you get any more classic than that? I can't argue about SW or the changing of Epcot's focus, because you are right, that is a shift for sure, but do you really see the GMR becoming focused on Mickey Mouse somehow not Disney?
