Project Gemini - Rumor - (2/6/04) Our latest Spy Transmission tells us about some possible reworking of the old Project Gemini plans to rejuvenate Epcot. I’ve no way of knowing just how solid any of these rumors are right now however, so take all of this with a grain of salt. This latest story claims that Future World will still be renamed Discoveryland and be given the “Montana” style treatment that was tried (and failed) on Disneyland’s Tomorrowland, by adding more earthy tones and lots of new trees. As work on Soarin’ near completion in 2005, they hope to have an all new attraction concept set and approved to take over the seasonal Wonders of Life pavilion. We’ve also heard about some kind of small Rain Forest themed coaster or flume ride that could be added to the Land pavilion. Previous version of Project Gemini also had an junior inverted coaster built into the new treescape in front of the pavilion, but it seems those plans were quickly dropped. I’m not sure if this is an old rumor that just wont die or if they are still considering this ride concept. A small jungle themed coaster is in the works for Tokyo DisneySea after all. The push to add a major launched roller coaster ride to Epcot however is still there (SSE: Time Racers) and since they can’t put it inside SpaceShip Earth, they may now be looking at attaching it to the Imagination Pavilion as a new ride (old rides will stay) called Brainstormers. The basic plot of the ride is said to be a new invention from an Imagination Institute Professor that will launch riders into their very own imaginations, a twisted world to be sure, perfect for a coaster layout. That’s all for now...

I know, it's from Screamscape, Please don't yell at me...

these plans sound awesome. FW is tired, WOL is a joke, Imagination is a bore. I feel bad for you people, you guys can't seem to enjoy anything these guys come up with (especially when they are just rumors).

all that sounds great, except i would completely eliminate wonders of life and start over. build from the ground up. this would give it a new feel and then you can do whatever you want, you dont have to squeeze around certain attractions.

I don't see a problem with a health/body themed pavilion but give me something better than a buncha movies and innoventions type exhibits. There is so much they could do with that space.

This is your opinion, not mine! IMO WoL is far from being a joke and it's actually the only true pavilion left! FW is far from being tired with all the new additions and yes, I can't enjoy rumors which I don't like! I enjoy changes but adding cheap family coasters is not the answer! If they pull off a decent high tech thrilling and themed coaster I have no problem! So please don't feel bad for me!

The only "true pavillion left"??? I really don't agree with that statement at all. I'm not sure exactly what you mean by true, but if you mean that it adheres to past pavillion ideas or is most similar to the old pavillions, that statement is not even slightly accurate. First and foremost, in terms of "true" pavillions, again whatever that means, The Land, Spaceship Earth, Universe of Energy and even Living Seas with or without the sea cabs is the closest. If anything WoL was is most similar to the new attractions in Epcot in that it was created around a thrill ride attraction. Yes I know it has cranium command, but the other pavillions all have post shows as well. The biggest problem with WoL was how quickly it became outdated. Star Tours still looks fresh in comparison to the cheesiness of body wars and i say that with some affection, as i always make a point of riding BW as it reminds me of that cheesy raquel welch movie(the name of which escapes me at the moment). Another problem was that the overall concept just didn't really fit in with the rest of FW.
I do understand your concern and others that putting in cheap rides is not the answer. But I think we have seen in the recent attractions that have opened and those being built that hopefully will not happen. I think Disney does understand that Epcot needs unique attractions so any roller coaster won't be your standard attraction. I'm optimistic but i think Test Track, Mission Space, Soarin and even the proposed changes to Living Seas all bode well for the future of Epcot. Test Track nor MS may not be super thrilling a la six flags coaster/cedar point coasters but there is no denying they are unique and one of a kind.

I agree with everything you are saying here. I'm not quite sure why everyone puts up a big hissy fit when they hear a rumor that Disney may add a coaster/thrill ride to EPCOT. Okay, we all know this is DISNEY we are talking about. They aren't just going to build a plain coaster...if they build a coaster, you can guarantee that it'll be with the most up-to-date special effects, and awesome theming that the Imagineers can think up. Don't any of you supposed "Disney Fans" have faith in Disney? Did they not bring us some of the most awesome attractions so far? Why do we love WDW so much? Because they have a record of bringing us cheesy, stupid attractions...of course not! They have always brought us great attractions...that's why we keep going back...now let's give them a little credit please!

Example: RnRC....is this a dumb, cheap, thrill coaster? NOPE!

I think alot of us lost faith after DCA was built.
California Screamin' is a dumb, cheap, thrill coaster.
I just hope they don't make that mistake again.

I really don't have a problem with a wholesale revamping of the Wonders of Life pavilion. I do have confidence that if the decision to make another high tech thrill ride is made that it is more likely to be Expedition Everest in quality rather than Primeval Whirl quality. What I *would* really like to see somewhere in Epcot is another quality omnimover type dark ride. I will admit to missing World of Motion and Horizons. I just think the park needs some ride balance. Hopefully, Soarin and revamped Living Seas will be a big draw because if they are not then the one side of FutureWorld with Test Track, Mission:Space and the new WOL coaster could really have population problems. However, I suspect that Mission:Space really isn't going to have much staying power in terms of traffic, just my opinion.

I wish they would build the Jr. Autopia (maybe themed after the upcoming Cars movie?) mentioned in the original Gemini rumors. Then they could rip out the Speedway at MK!

For a nice balance I would like to see one more pavilion on the west side of FW. Right between The Land and The Living Seas...the weather pavilion idea sounds good for that space...I wouldn't mind the coaster bit...just as long as it is themed...with some story...and not just a ride either...some exhibits would be nice...after all why call it a pavilion then....(the coaster rumor is a strong one, since Soarin will be on the opposite side of the land maybe the coaster is the balance for the land pavilion though traffic issues will be a big concern...maybe it will have its separate entrance and exit).

WoL shouldn't be totally replaced...the idea is good, the attractions are a bit old though, and the pavilion is not that visible...I wouldn't mind some changes to WoL if it would mean the pavilion would not longer be seasonal.

As for the rest of the rumors...I'll reserve judgement until I hear something more convincing...anyways just my opinion....

:)

Oh Come on now... WoL was/is always an empty wasteland (minus peak times of the year). Bring on something new I say! :sohappy: :sohappy:

Plus.. your gonna blame Eisner for this? :hammer:

Eisner’s the scapegoat for everything, didn’t you know? Terrorism, all Eisner. Weaker economy, again Eisner.

Anyways, my only concern about these plans are the
”earth tones” (ala Tomorrowland, DL). I think Future World looks awesome as is and applying earth tones would be a horrible mistake (they may not be too bad if only applied to eastern side of Future World, but it might then be too contrasting). Not to mention the earth tones would completely go against the futuristic tone of Mission: Space and the modern character of Test Track. However, the reason I think this rumor is false is because I’m unable to see how they could apply the “earth tone” scheme without shutting down Future World (or large sections of); seems like a waste of time to me.
