really? it's jarring how it's perfect knit placed in within it's location that you'd feel as a first timer that it was always there with the rest of the resort that it all was all built altogether when it was not. I was actually wondering if it replaced some cabanas much similar to Riviera replaced some of Carribbean Beach.. what was there before?
It did replace about half of the cabanas I think.

And what I was saying is the Coronado tower is *less* jarring than the Poly tower. Before the tower, all of Poly had a single distinctive design. So the tower sticks out so much more because everything else is the same, and it’s so different. With the Coronado, the resort was already an amalgamation of a bunch of different styles, so the new tower there can still fit in even though it doesn’t exactly match anything that was there before.

Just looked through the recent-ish concept art Steve posted that I had missed from earlier and yeesh. First, we have quite the downgrade in the overall resort grounds from what was initially shown in 2022:

We've lost the beach, the infinity pool with waterfall, another waterfall to the left of the dining terrace, the band platform, the cascading plants on the balconies; the seating looks cheaper, the landscaping is worse, and, to my eye, the building overall is somehow even less interesting than the already derided version they showed in 2022.

Then there's the lobby, which...ugh. Was there some kind of bet on how many competing textures and patterns and finishes they could cram into one space? It's like they looked at the sample board of all the options a designer presented to them and just said, "yes."

For the Moana splash pad, nothing about it looks deluxe or luxurious. The loungers, the pavement, the landscaping - it's all mediocre at best. Take away the Moana outrigger and this looks like a lot of clubhouse splash areas in countless gated communities across Florida.

I do think some of the dining areas have potential based on the new artwork, but the rest of it is disappointing to say the least.

Not bashing this in anyway but just making an observation. Did they purposely paint this to look faded by the sun already? Her hair looks like it was dry brushed with grey. At a glance she resembled her Grandmom.

Or does Moana 2 have a time jump and she actually ages to the point of grey hair (I’m only half kidding).

Beyond the fact that this will be roped off within a month of use due to the safety issues of kids climbing up the mast of the boat. I am more shocked at the building itself in the background. Man, they are not trying anymore, are they? Really basic and uninspired design. Shockingly boring
That was my first thought.
What's to keep kids from clamoring all over this thing?

I like much of the interior from what they have shown us.
But that exterior?
I was hoping that water and landscaping would help it out a lot.
But they cut those things.

There is quite the difference between 15+ years ago and now. The access to movies and shows wasn't there like it is today, they are taking advantage of that. Kids are obsessed with shows, characters, and movies like never before and you have to admit catering to that is a good business decision for Disney even if people of a different generation hate it.

Much of these resorts were built but especially renovated after Disney was so successful in releasing films and creating beloved characters the period of time was dubbed the Disney Renaissance. They had plenty of popular IP to work with and insert. It was still kept largely to the values.

I’d be shocked to find out a Moana figure at the pool makes any difference at all when it comes to the decision to spend $1000+ on a resort room.

People, people, please stop the bickering and put aside this debate so we can focus on something we can all agree on - that this project is an embarrassing, ugly mess.

Fair, I don’t want this tangent to take away from the (accurate) complaints about the towers aesthetics, but some of us who grew up smack in the middle of the Disney renaissance are just a little bit taken aback with these assertions lol.
