I wouldn't even say they nailed this -- at least not on the exterior. The exterior looks incredibly cheap. The interior is a different story.
Every time I drive by it I get mad. What were they thinking. Hopefully sales taught them a lesson. If they had made it ACTUALLY look like the riviera they could have made the colours and textures blend better with CBR. I also don’t understand why they didn’t make it Caribbean themed? Royal Bahamian Tower at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort? Could tie in pirates/ cruise line stuff, elevated Caribbean food and design, cohesive theme around the lagoon...

As for DVC poly tower, if they have put this in the parking lot instead and made it more central instead of tacked on to the end I think it would flow better. I hate it’s placement more that it’s design.

Sadly, you are right...I was trying to come up with something nice to say... All of us in our group agreed that the novelty of the Skyliner was really the only reason to stay there, and while we were there it was down more often than not....operationally I hope this will get better. This year we are back in our home resort. No one was moved to stay at the Riviera again... Good thematic design is the intangible element that makes places like The Poly, Grand Floridian, and Contemporary more than the sum of their parts...
I doubt if anyone really has an emotional connection on seeing the Riviera the first time... I am afraid the Poly tower is going to end up just like that...

Where would you have wanted it? The main parking lot? To me that would be worse. Unfortunately the only other area good is the Tangaroa Terrace which isn't large enough. Tacking it on towards TTC would be bad too. I actually prefer the location they chose - better chance for views.

As for Riviera I admit I only googled pictures of the hotels in France and went "well it looks similar to me" Initially when I thought Riviera I went Mexican which is totally different. I really wouldn't want to tie in more IP like pirates and stuff. Then again I am very against throwing in IP stuff to make things feel "Disney" because it just feels cheesy to me. Why I never liked the grounds of the value resorts. The idea of doing more Caribbean feel works for me though.

IMO, Riviera could be helped a lot by just continuing the facade detail on the ground floor all the way up the building, replacing the dreadful window awnings, and reworking some of the oddly spartan landscaping. Yeah, the lobby will never be what I expect of a deluxe lobby and it still might not capture the Riviera vibe all that well for those familiar with it, but it would at least feel fully themed. The weird cheapness of everything between the roof and ground level is what's so horrendous, and it doesn't seem like it'd be all that costly or disruptive to fix.

While it may look like some hotels from the Riviera, Disney was always more about place settings that capture the essence of what you might envision a place to be, and the exterior of the Riviera fails in that regard.

As for the DVC tower I’d put it in main parking lot, with a garden and pool area between it and the Great Ceremonial House. Rooftop restaurant and new trader sams. The old terrace restaurant would become new additional dining, captain cooks to take over whole bottom floor dining space. Coffee bar in tower lobby.

Yeah that's a huge hard no for me. Lousy location and views. Much prefer nestling in with the end longhouses myself. Appreciate the thoughts but I just would hate it there.

As for Riviera I fully admit my knowledge is zero. That region of France is not one I've been to. I do dislike how much concrete is on the grounds though. I'm meh on it all tbh.

Well luckily for you they’re destroying the whole feel of the original resort to offer good views ;)

Maybe they can add SOME sort of similar luau experience or entertainment on the beach? Or dessert luau party something.

Hopefully the concept art was rushed and this will look a lot more suited and visually fit better than it comes across in the artwork...!

I just can't get past the fence and rocks by the water. I wonder if they'll keep that "feature" as the new tower is built? I guess they must to keep us safe from that terribly dangerous lake. They could make the fence taller I suppose, add some razor wire. Maybe they could put up some lcd screens showing the old beach at the waters edge.
