I expect that one to sell out fast too!I had forgotten about DLT, but I agree that it will appeal to a different audience than anything at WDW.

I'm staying in June for the first time. I hope major construction won't have started by then.So this will ruin the feel and look of the Polynesian just like the new tower ruined Coronado Springs. Staying at the Polynesian in June, might be the last time.
They would have to tear down the luau first before anything else can be done. I am at VGF in June and hope to walk between the two. Hoping they can rebuild paths to help keep the area open for the most part as a whole or we'll avoid the area for a couple years. Not hard to do as we still have a couple properties my guys haven't stayed yet. Once built I could see us rotating between 2 or 3 properties only in the future.I'm staying in June for the first time. I'm already mourning the loss of the pristine, quiet grounds and beautiful tropical trees and landscaping I loved to stroll around walking to the GF. The extra green space was necessary buffer. To lose it will make it so much more uninviting, crowded, and unpleasant.
This, at the bottom, appears to be 2 restaurants (one on the ground floor and one on the first floor)

This, at the top, appears to be a grand villa:

Right. I think the only chance it has of being stand-alone with no restrictions would be if they abandoned restrictions entirely, including Disneyland Tower and Riviera itself.I think @CaptainAmerica was saying he believes that they will either make it a new resort with restrictions or just add it onto the existing resort. Some were suggesting they might make it stand-alone but drop the restrictions.
This is indeed a loss for the ten people who walk to the Grand from the Poly. It's simply not a thing that many people do.I'm already mourning the loss of the pristine, quiet grounds and beautiful tropical trees and landscaping I loved to stroll around walking to the GF. I do it all the time! In the 4 days we were there we did the walk to GF from Polynesian 2x. One time we walked back, the other time we went to CR next. I rarely see people making the walk though. I do hope they find a way to keep the path open during some constructionThis is indeed a loss for the ten people who walk to the Grand from the Poly. It's simply not a thing that many people do.
We are going next week and staying at VGF. Will we still be able to walk to the Poly? We are 2 of the 10 people.I do it all the time! However, I'm not worried about it. The path was lit but it's not a path I felt comfortable walking alone at night (and yet I walk NYC alone at night). I don't think I'll have an issue after it is built.
When we were there last month, this was announced and I mentally was picturing it as we walked once. I expected a more of a break between the resort for some reason but I can see how it will go and I am still hopeful.
I just wish they had done this in 2015.

Thank you!
I have not seen that it was blocked off. They did some keep out type signs around luau cove. I think you'll be fine. My VGF in June I am slightly worried about. That was one of the ways to convince my 14yo to stay there lol.We are going next week and staying at VGF. Will we still be able to walk to the Poly? We are 2 of the 10 people.
Based on the permitting we’ve seen I don’t think we’ll see much in the way of construction/ demolition for several months still. Maybe fall?
But VGF was going for over $250 a point just a few months ago when buying direct, the current price is fairly attractive for those who had been looking.I will be curious to see if people balk at the current prices for only 41 years at VGF. That will probably influence their decision here.
One Imagineer once told me the original was rejected in the end as not being "exotic enough". Ironically, when it opened in 1971, the current Poly was referred to more than once as the "vaguely Californian Polynesian" by critics. (They also called the inside decor of the Contemporary "Italian easy-pay provincial" which always cracked me up).
Fools and their money are soon parted. So what I'm getting from this, is that it has always been fashionable to hate on whatever Disney does.
Seems to me that the only tell tale sign of what the customer truly wants comes from the almighty dollar, and not crabby old people on the internet.
Count me as another person who did it. I know it may sound trivial to others but it was a great QUIET walk away from other people. Especially after the last Poly update left us with a giant airport lobby and an Astroturf tumble spot out at the pool area and the elimination of the quiet pool. I would walk to the Grand and then take the boat back. It was just a great part of my trip. This is indeed a loss for the ten people who walk to the Grand from the Poly.
