Here is my take. We probably should not pretend Holiday Inn is anymore than it is. And we should recognize that Marriott is in fact a full service, upper-upscale hotel chain...which means it is no slouch. But comparing it to a timeshare, which is what Poly DVC is, is kinda comparing apples to oranges. Maybe a better comparison is comparing Poly DVC to Hilton Grand Vacations and Marriot Vacation Club. At least then you are comparing timeshare to timeshare. If Poly DVC is going to lose, at least let it lose to others in its own segment. :hilarious:
That’s fair…the price point of the rooms -which is like Mandarins or Seasons - is what always taints the comparisons

Holiday Inns really are middle road to me. Not like a Marriott but often a step up from a Comfort Inn. I really tend to stay in bewteen the Holiday Inn and Marriott myself in NYC for work. I don't need a ton but like more than Holiday Inn types have to offer. But if it is what I can find, I'll stay. Let's not also pretend that all Marriotts are like a 5 star hotels too. They've grown so much their resorts vary.

I have to look at the time shares I've visited to know which ones I'm familiar with but I do think it was Hilton this past week. I agree that PVB to timeshares is wise. Though resort rooms to a Marriott could be compared. But we're not building resort rooms. Still even comparing the two I haven't seen a US based hotel that's part of a main chain themed like Polynesian. Maybe the boring bedding but that's it.

Are you comparing this to the new Poly tower?

I’m afraid it will be comparable to this:

That’s their price point…$200 give or take. So that’s not inappropriate in today’s market

I will agree that BLT is closer in theme to a Marriott. We have stayed there once, and won't again. Just not our style at all.
We like it for the extra bathroom. When my female friend stayed with us it was good for that. We chose it over Kidani because the rest of the party was at WL and at the time there was boat service to and from the resorts

The Poly tower isn’t that ugly, at least based on the art. It’s certainly a step up from Riviera or Swan Reserve. It’s also nice they left gaps in the building for some Polynesian quirks, rather than saturating every inch with rectangular villas.

Still, it’s certainly blander than the longhouses and follows trends that could be sprouting up anywhere else.

It also further cuts into the tranquil space that once separated Poly and GF (and was always built into the plans for Seven Seas & Bay Lake hotels). That negative space made all the monorail resorts feel more special, whereas now this’ll just be another corridor of towers and blocky buildings.

Nope. Haven't stayed there, though we have walked around the resort. We have no intention of buying there. We will probably stay there at some point, as RR, BRV, and CCV are the last 3 for us to stay at.
Oh good…now I have my faith in you restored.

It’s not good…they plopped it in caribbean.

It does have the feel of an intercontinental much more than even Saratoga.

It really looks the design was to capture what
Goombas from New York City would expect to buy in Miami…like al capones winter home.

We have RR as one of the last few for my kid to stay. He and my husband have VGF (doing June) SSR snd RR. We visited with a friend in June and it was fine. Reminded me too much of BLT on the grounds. My kid and I don't love the skyliner too. Maybe a short trip?

I do not get that vibe from the tower concept myself for what I hope will just be PVB

I completely agree that with little kids, the Poly isn't necessarily the best choice for a stay. Doesn't mean it's any less of a resort. It's just the 2 of us for most visits as our kids are grown and married. If we take one of them, we get a 2 bedroom. With both families, a grand villa. I would never think of staying at the Poly with us and the kids.
We did a split stay recently and just tacked on 4 nights at Poly. It was fine for the 4 of us in a studio for 4 nights but I think longer would have been more of an issue for us. I think it also depends on your style of vacation. I tend to go to WDW less frequently than a lot of DVC owners but I stay longer when I do go. If it’s a 10+ day trip you will usually plan to spend more time in the room relaxing than on a 3 or 4 day one. When we went to Universal over Spring Break a few years back we only stayed 2 nights and it was a studio hotel room but we just slept there. We spent no time relaxing in the room so it really didn’t matter.
