Hope you are right......Resort crowd levels are concerning me with the new DVC
They're adding a pool and dining. That will help for sure with some aspects. Last week was a super busy week for spring break. We had more issues waiting for food than we did with transportation. I'm likely just not worried seeing how fine contemporary is.

Not sure I see as much of an issue. Many of us do not even use the monorail at Polynesian unless resort hopping. It wasn't busy at all last week. I could see more of an issue with the boats but they seemed to be running the larger ones more often last week.

Yeah. We always took the boat to MK. Walked to TTC for Epcot monorail. I think out of 9 days we jumped on the monorail at the resort once. And now you can even walk to MK if you wanted!

Can you imagine the crowds at the GCH if the guests at the new DVC building have
only that to use as an access to the monorail? The strain this new building will put on existing Poly amenities
will be overwhelming .
Not much of an issue at CR or GF. Both of those resorts added large DVC wings with little impact to the monorail. BLT was built over one of the garden wings but it still added more guests. The monorail is a high capacity transport system. It may be more of an issue for boats or busses but while the monorail was down at Poly they did run the bigger boats between Poly and MK so that’s always a possibility if needed going forward.

They need a second Dole Whip window :). With the self serve machine gone from Captain Cooks that window had lines every night while we stayed there.

IMO the main impact of DVC is that Disney has captive guests which takes pressure off them to maintain the parks. Those points will be used even if the rides are broken, G+ is a pain, walkways are crowded, bathrooms flooded.

There is some overlap with APs, sure they complain about the state of things but they will still go.
That’s a long time talking point against DVC but I don’t think it’s really as big an issue as people like to make it. The parks are packed right now and what percent of those visitors are staying in a DVC room with points? Probably less than a quarter if you factor in the other Disney hotel rooms plus the large number of people not staying on property, and most of the year probably less than 20%. You can’t just let the parks crumble because you “locked in“ 20% of your guests. If the numbers were flipped and DVC was 80% that might be a different story. Long time Disney parks fans who visit frequently are the ones who keep them honest with attractions. Average tourists visiting Disney for a once in a while or once in a lifetime trip to bring their kids don’t know effects on Splash Mountain aren’t working or that a pre-show isn’t running as expected.

Depending on where we are we would even take the ferry to MK. We took the resort monorail when going to CR or back to our room. We even walked to GF a couple times. Some do use the GCH for the monorail but not as many as some would think. Definitely faster ways to get to MK or Epcot.

That line moved fast at least. We had 2 times of waiting 15+ minutes for food at Captian Cooks though. They need a bigger QS place I think. We don't do QS that much usually but this trip was an exception.

I like Captain Cooks but I agree it’s a little small especially with the resort expanding. The outdoor seating was nice for overflow and online ordering made it easier to just order and sit and sip a drink while we waited.

I assume the new DVC tower will have some dining but if history tells us anything they may look to build a rooftop table service restaurant with views of MK. Maybe they add another QS on the bottom floor too. I like what they did at Grand Californian with the Craftsman Bar and Grill. It doubles as a QS with grab and go items and a table service pool bar with meals too. I think that would fit well into the Polynesian theme and could be added to the new pool area providing more QS options while also offering nightlife at the pool.

The reports said it will have new dining options so I read that as at least 2 new somethings. Maybe a rooftop and QS and then maybe a pool bar would be nice.

Crazily enough space was fine for us to eat. The outdoor area was helpful for sure. It just took way too long. Also the egg white scramble was gross. Maybe we should have tried Kona to go too. That was on us really. We would have walked to GF more but likely due to crowds mobile ordering was for resort guests only at that time. We'll see what's good in June in person there.

Online ordering was really nice to have that option. Especially when you get ready and plan your breakfast menu before you leave. We normally don't do breakfast out of the room. This time we tried it and I am not sure we'd do it often again.

I think your idea would be great! I honestly and surprised thinking this will be ready in the next 2-3 years....

When I look at the concept art it looks like the top middle section of the tower (circled in red below) might just be 2 story 3 bedroom grand villas similar to Bay Lake Tower as opposed to a restaurant. I know that it’s just concept art and so can change and I can’t believe they would pass up an opportunity for a rooftop restaurant with great views of MK. It looks to me like the area next to the pool (circled in blue below) is some sort of seating area and maybe a restaurant but hard to tell for sure. I’m sure we will get more info between now and 2024. DVC doesn’t like to hype a new resort until they are ready to sell it so may be a while but if it’s going to open in late 2024 they have to start serious construction pretty soon so they had to say something I guess.

Valid point. Keep in mind I was at Disney when the news broke so gave it quick looks and not very zoomed in lol. I assumed the top was a restaurant and the bottom was QS. But you could be totally right. But also could be wrong as they change how they do it.

I agree they need to start soon on this. But for most building a new building doesn't take that long so they could get it done. Depends more on supplies right now.

I'm still excited though. Will save up to add on to my current PVB (or buy new and sell my old PVB which has paid for itself when mixed in with my old points, and do a much bigger new add on).

I am one of a few data points that disagree with this.
I’m right there with you. I don’t eat breakfast in the room most days to save money. I like having a light breakfast and a cup of coffee on the balcony before the start of the day. I also like having a beer in the same spot in the evening. Having a bigger fridge accommodates all of that much easier. I use the toaster for breakfast and if we have left overs from a meal the microwave to heat up. I’m not cooking Thanksgiving dinner in the room or anything like that but it’s nice having a kitchen and very nice to have the washer and dryer.

But are you guys the outliers or the majority?

And even if it’s more close to even…who is Disney selling to now?

They’re certainly not angling DVC to the “kitchen crowd” these days

I don't know if I'm an outlier. Just passing along a data point. I am well off but I like the space and comforts of home, so a fridge filled snacks, food, leftovers... a table for the family to sit at over meals or drinks... or cook breakfast (I like to cook) or dinner. It's relaxing, and I like to feed people good food and save money. I could dine out all the time, but I don't. Part of me is stingy, so I'm selective about where I eat out at Disney... perhaps I would feel different if the food was spectacular at a reasonable price, but instead it's OK for (my view) exorbitant price. I have money, and I like to be prudent when I spend it.

You may be right that I'm not the demographic. Just pointing out that the generalization has exceptions.

LOL now that I think about it... I am careful what I spend money on, enjoy free parking, don't really buy merch, selective on dining... I think you're right... I'm the opposite of who they're targeting. ;)

Fair enough…and I wish we had more people with your value structure coming in under the “membership umbrella”
