The three newest long houses that were built were converted to DVC. They also converted CCV and created 1 and 2 bedrooms as well. At the time there was a lot of issues with people wanting studios and unable to book so they tried and created mostly studios. Unfortunately people didn't like the point prices I guess and they didn't do it for CCV or RR. Oddly they are trying again with VGF in Big Pine Key.

They easily could have done 1 room = a studio. 2 rooms = a 1 bedroom and 3 rooms= a 2 bedroom like they did at CCV.

They were gutted entirely for the opening in 2015 so the plumbing and electrical was redone. The buildings they chose were built in either 1978 (Tokelau) and 1985 (Moorea and Pago Pago)

Just smiling at the typo... and will make a joke about wrong resort, must be thinking cabins ;)
😂😂 I swear I wrote longhouses….. 🤦🏽‍♀️

I agree that the conversion was done on the cheap. They could easily have made bigger villas if they’d wanted to.

Lol autocorrect is fun sometimes!

I'm actually not saying they did the PVB on the cheap. In fact they totally gutted down to the studs, redid plumbing and wiring to allow for the kitchenette and 2nd shower. It was a choice to not do all the 1 and 2 bedrooms at the time. Just like CCV was a choice after feedback. They were trying to balance old and new members I think and just missed the mark. But they seem to still want studios based on the 202 new we are getting. On the cheap would be what they are doing at VGF right now.

Two queen beds and a more hotel room feel is exactly what I wanted. I hesitated for years on buying dvc because of the one queens and pullout couch setup. Then I came across an amazing deal with updates to the pull out couches and trundle beds So I pulled the trigger. Now with these new GF rooms, I am all in. The only thing I’m not fond of is they are still shower/tub combos which is really crappy to me.

I think most of the studios do the shower tub combo. Only the 2 shower studios have walk in showers. The murphy beds are really awesome compared to the couches. My kid said they were just as comfortable as his bed. Of course don't forget OKW has the 2 beds too. But welcome home!

My rental car (medium suv) for Sat to Sat in May from MCO is $510 at Alamo. I don't think that's terrible. 🤷🏻‍♀️Still ****ed off at Disney I have to spend the extra money to get a car, but at least they're losing money by me having a car. Renting DVC points, so no parking costs, doing activities off property and getting groceries to eat in our villa.
Great rate who is that from?

Thanks! I actually stayed Old Key West and wasn’t a big fan. The TV placement especially and how far it is from the beds. Also decor wise it seemed lower end. The Saratoga Springs rooms after refurb though, are beautiful!

Idiot is a projection. A frequent one from you.

I’m just saying what happened and the resulting business tactic. If people are comfortable with it…then that’s there comfort zone and more power to them.

However it shouldn’t be a standard pattern. There has to be a line. If the current conversion at grand Floridian is a part of the original deed block…then I can see it.

If the take the back wing off the lobby at beach club, gut it and call it “Disney mermaid bay villas” in the 3 years and sell it at $275 a point…it’s just creating more a problem for DVC and the rack customers.
Not my projection. The other poster said “maybe I’m the idiot for liking the theme at Copper Creek Villas“ and I said no, you aren’t an idiot for feeling that way. Opinions on theming vary and it’s fine for people to disagree. It’s really not accurate to say it’s not themed, but it’s fine to say you don’t like the theme or feel it’s not as good as another resort.

The line will be drawn when people stop buying DVC points. For over a decade now I’ve heard the argument that Disney is raising the DVC price too much and they won’t be able to sell the points resulting in a glut of unsold points but somehow that doesn’t happen. As long as people want to buy the points and as long as those owners stop staying in deluxe hotel rooms it will result in less demand for hotel rooms so for Disney it’s either let the rooms sit empty, sell them for a large discount or convert them to DVC rooms and option 3 is what we are seeing happen mostly.

I may have a different way of looking at this, but Disney making money off of DVC isn’t all bad. I have no interest in staying at a deluxe resort in a hotel room at this point so reducing the number of rooms available has no impact on me personally. I get that some people don’t own DVC points and want to get the old school pin codes and AP discounts to stay in those deluxe hotel rooms for the price of a moderate or even a value at some points in time. That ship has mostly sailed. A perk not likely coming back. Another way to look at DVC is that it is part of the profit margin for the parks segment. If you take that profit away Disney will not just accept margins slipping they will either increase revenue by raising prices even more than normal or more likely cut costs in other places. DVC is a profit stream that may reduce available deluxe hotel rooms but unless that matters to you it’s an impact that isn’t so bad.

You are correct! Disney has a long term profit stream with DVC. Nice long term binding contracts with a nice chunk of change up front. A profit stream I will not be contributing to but I can see the attraction to many enthusiastic fans.

IMO the main impact of DVC is that Disney has captive guests which takes pressure off them to maintain the parks. Those points will be used even if the rides are broken, G+ is a pain, walkways are crowded, bathrooms flooded.

There is some overlap with APs, sure they complain about the state of things but they will still go.

SSR refurbs were very nice! Though I did like what they did in OKW but we rarely do studios there. I just stayed in one in November at SSR. I really like the resort now. The old rooms were so dreary.

They really should run it through, then the building could be set back further from the lake
Can you imagine the crowd levels in the GCH waiting for the monorail if
guests at the new DVC building have that as the only monorail access ?

only that to use as an access to the monorail? The strain this new building will put on existing Poly amenities
will be overwhelming .
Not sure I see as much of an issue. Many of us do not even use the monorail at Polynesian unless resort hopping. It wasn't busy at all last week. I could see more of an issue with the boats but they seemed to be running the larger ones more often last week.

Exactly. Why maintain a hotel with amenities like boat rentals, fishing etc when the guests have no choice.

Hope you are right......Resort crowd levels are concerning me with the new DVC
